Well I do PvP and Jockey occassionally plays in Mobius so in accordance with ED forum doctrine there's plenty wrong with both of us
Solo and Mobius only players surely know this better.This has always been the case, but the PvPers don't want you to know that.
Some do and that is why they play in Solo and Mobius, others don't and play in Solo and Mobius for other reasons and don't know that. Sooooo many reasons to play in any of the modes.
I always go to a games forums before I make my mind up to even buy the game, seeing what the community is like is a major point for me when I think about buying a game.
If I was new to Elite now and came to the forums to check the community out; My Mobius application would be in before I'd even buy the game.
And if there was any hint of Frontier forcing Open mode in any way - I wouldn't even think twice about the game.
I'd have just moved on to something else.
I don't think they will as many of their members play in the other Modes.. but companies *Cough* Sony Online Entertainment *Cough* do stupid crap sometimes and completely ruin games.
Yeah-yeah, so I had read the forums before buying, gankers-griefers, Mobius-Shmobius... Pressed Start In Open with a great terror, and guess what? A few months have passed before the first gank. Just like I've thought, the usual fairy tales on the forums. Who would believe players only keeping to their lovely hideout and whatnot mode constantly telling the same horror stories in topics about other mode. This general assumption can have only one exception, I totally trust someone who had told that you all sing Kumbaya in Mobius!

Just because you find open to be okay, doesn't mean everyone does.
Some folks get blown up within 5 minutes of loading the game first time.
It all depends on how lucky you are with where the game spawns you and who happens to be about at the time.
Of course we get the fairy tales from gankers how open is full of rainbows and unicorns to lure more people to them, but fortunately most people see right through that.
We all know that the real fun of Elite is in our own private groups or in Solo - where we can enjoy Frontiers hard work how they intended it to be.
After all, David Braben OBE (the CEO of Frontier and creator of Elite, in case you don't know who he is) did say he sees the game as a co-op game not a confrontational game, and what better place to co-op than in the Mobius Group.
See? Yet another story of how it is seen better from solobius. Is this Mobius thing a sect? You repeat everything over and over and over and over trying to hypnotize and acquire a new follower from Open topics so he could join you in singing Kumbaya and acquiring of more followers. 5 minutes to get Mobiused. Not entirely sure why it's not 15 seconds, but its all esoteric I guess. Poor souls those who fall for your sectarianized ways and go Mobiusizing before trying Open for themselves. But I guess they make the best proponents to spread the True Word of Mobius. May I suggest adding local comms in Open to the list of places where you acquire your followers, this would increase your numbers even more effectively.
And no, I don't know who Braben is. I don't even know how much gank by murderous uncooperative and chatless NPC was there in Elite. Now back to rainbows and ponies...

I think it is funny how some think Mobius is something other than just a place where people can PVE without having to deal with those who want to PVP... that is all. Those who want to PVP can play in Open and those who don't but don't mind the risk of it can as well. Those who don't want to but still play with others can play in Mobius and those who want to play by themselves can play in Solo.

It's not hard to understand, for those who have the ability to understand.
Indeed, it's rather amusing how people whine on about the existence of a private group dedicated to PvE because they already have their own unrestricted FFA mode (Open) available to them.
If anything, it comes across as jealousy at the notion there are so many people with shared values who get on and play together, enjoying the game in their own right.
Open players don't "lose" anything with the existence of Mobius, in fact, they gain an entire mode dedicated to their own style of gameplay... so where's the problem?
