Hardware & Technical Thrustmaster T.16000M FCS HOTAS official thread

Preordered this. ETA week 40 in my country. I feel like Cartman waiting for Wii :)
14 year old Saitek Cyborg 3D will be retired soon.

Amazon Germany also has the preorder (no luck on the French site) :

https://www.amazon.de/Joystick-TM-T16000M-FCS-HOTAS/dp/B01H6KXGDY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1472543850&sr=8-1

They also have the throttle in a separate pack at ~80 € : https://www.amazon.de/Thrustmaster-2960754-Schieberegler-TWCS-Throttle/dp/B01H6KXGDO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1472543850&sr=8-2

The separate throttle is a really good news, it's not too pricey and could be coupled with a Saitek stick (I'm thinking of the one from the x-56, but I'm not sure if the Saitek hotas has separate joystick/throttle modules, as this is not the case on my x-52).

What's the difference between the new T16000m and the older? I could buy the old one at 38 €

If you're talking about the joystick only, it's mainly the design that has changed. But the "newer" is a HOTAS, so it has a separate throttle bundled with it.

Basically, if you don't have any use of a separate throttle, go for the t16000m joystick.

I'm surprised that there is not an ED image on the box

This seems like a good piece of hardware, on paper at least.

I'm really looking to buy one, but I think I'll be waiting for a review before (this prevented me from buying a Saitek x-56, as it's apparently not that well built).

The only thing I'll be regreting from my current setup is the mouse trackpoint on the throttle, it's really handy for freelook without a trackIR or a VR headset :)

IIRC, you can find a preorder version on Amazon germany for 129 euros.

Cheers,

I think it's safe to say that this will be a rock solid piece of hardware, unlike Madcatz/Saiteks recent efforts!

I usually don't pre-order stuff, but dang I need a new stick. The buttons on my Hotas-X are starting to wear out... after about 900 hours of use. I definitely got my 40 bucks worth. I didn't want to get a Madcatz stick because I didn't want to play QA RNG, so this seems like the best option available.

Im just waiting for those reviews, but oddly theres none yet available. Well, hopefully sometime this month...

There is one reason because I will not buy it.

Its right handed only beside the fact that the T16000M can be switched to left hand use.
Why they can't produce a Thrust Control which can be used on both sides?

Really sad.

Miklos

I'm a pure lefty myself too, and before using a Hotas I was using the joystick with my left hand, same as you (the choice of products was limited due to the necessary ambidextrous design of the stick).

Then I bought a x-52 specifically for ED, and hoped that using the joystick with my right hand wouldn't cause too much issue. And it was actually really easy/quick to adapt to this new setup.

I don't know if you tested / own a HOTAS system, but if not I encourage you to try it and see if you feel comfortable using it.

I played sticks for right handed use for long time, but it isn't delivering near those results as left hand do. And right hand is no option because I am not a combat pilot at all with left.
Yes, a throtlle may even give better results but it will not offset the lesser stick results.
In fact I can't understand why engineers aren't able to build a switchable device. Its just more or less a slightly different button design and a bit of software to change directions.

I can even vote for gaming pad, but as you already imagine they are for right hand using only too. Designers show no love for left handed and disadvantage them with their design.
Please get a deepler look on what is designed. If you think its not so important take a left hand designed knife a cut a slice of bread with it.

Miklos

The left-handed market for PC devices is a niche market, sadly.

I spent a huge time just finding a decent gaming mouse that's ambidextrous (we're several people using the computer at home, so a full left handed design is out of the equation anyway), and the mouse is now a basic peripheral.

It's hard to see manufacturers develop left-handed specific peripherals like throttles, as the sales would be really low and won't compensate the cost of the building process (molding, specific building chain, package, etc).

The only way for now would be to build a throttle from scratch(I think someone on the forum built a full HOTAS system himself). That would be a project I'llbe happy to follow or give some advices/help [smile].

I noticed the throttle has a flat plane as opposed to the curved one on the X-52...making this more like the CH Throttle. How do folks feel about that?

Also, if you are like me and already have a stick you like...you can get the throttle separately.

I won't be pre-ordering though. Will wait to see what people think of it.

I'm hearing that it won't be released in the states until October. Europe gets it in September. I expect good things from TM -- they're a good company and they don't overcharge unlike a few others I can name.

As for the lefty/righty thing, I totally feel for you guys. My dad is left-handed, and he struggles with throttles too. Unfortunately it's not feasible to make an ambidextrous throttle, at least not without taking the whole thing apart and re-mounting the PCBs inside and all the risks/potential problems that entails. Flight Controls are already a pretty niche market. :(

I've been looking at this to, since I also use the TM T16000 that most of us have had no problems with, other than the limit on buttons. Anyway, being in the UK I wanted to see if I can get it here, and so far my google foo and Amazon seeking have failed me. I can't find them on a UK site at all. Grateful for the German link, because the UK site has nothing.

Anyway like most folk, I'll wait to hear what is said, but thanks Henkka77 for setting up the thread, will keep an eye with interest.

I emailed Thrustmaster to ask when it will be available in the UK. I got a reply stating (a little bizarrely) "Unfortunately there is not much information available as far as the release date is concerned.".

Got to say I think I'll be sticking with the T-Flight Hotas X for now, as I'm not keen on the base buttons either. A Hotas X with more buttons on the throttle and stick would have been much more preferable. Don't get this thing for sticking loads of wheels and hats on the throttles either, especially not for Elite where they aren't very practical. And what's with that default button layout? Having to take your hand off the stick to press the landing gear button on the base while coming into land, what are they thinking? As someone who plays in VR then the less buttons you have on the bases the better. Fortunately the Hotas X only has 2 on the throttle base that I need to take my hands off to use and even then it can be a minor fiddle. OK, I mean I know the whole Elite Joystick is just a marketing thing at the end of the day, but still..
