Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X Discussion thread.

Hi guys, this is my first thread and sadly it is a cry for help. I bought the stick specificly to play Elite but when I bought the game this morning and tried it out my ship is constantly spinning to the left. Hand off stick, zero ecceleration. The stick works fine with Ace Combat (no spinning) but I can't get my ship to stay still in Elite. Has anyone else encountered this or have any ideas on how to solve it? Any and all help is much appreciated, thanks in advance guys :)

Wish I could help, but I can only say I do NOT have this problem with my T.Flight

No idea if I'm talking utter crap but it might be worth looking in your control options and seeing if you accidentally adjusted a yaw or similar setting. There are sliders and deadzone things that might have been moved. Or just go back to default settings and try that first.

Good luck as I've just bought the same HOTAS stick too.

Go into the control options and expand your roll deadzone incrementally to see if it stops rolling eventually. The potentiometer on the stick may be faulty and sending inputs to the game.

Alternatively, look in the control software for the stick to see if the displays show any continuous input. If it does, try increasing the deadzones, again incrementally, to see if it stops.

Your other flight game may well have a larger default deadzone than Elite, where the setting defaults to zero.

deadzones

Thank you so much guys for your quick replies, much appreciated :) I spoke to my flat mate once he had dragged himself from his pit and he said the same thing about settings and deadzones. Gave the deadzones an adjust and all is well now :) thanks again chaps.

You shouldn't have a deadzone issue with the Hotas X, although it's possible to have bad potentiometer. Make sure you calibrate your stick in Windows. If you use the Raw Inputs, you can see if your numbers are "symmetrical", and make sure the little cross travels to every edge of the screen and centers afterwards.

I've had hiccups with the Hotas X where it loses calibration - rarely - and it was solved by unplugging all USBs and plugging them in again. Of course, that will also solve the issue of having another controller interfering. I've had issues in other games when a piece of junk on my desk is leaning on my XBOX controller, causing spins.

My config, if it's useful for anyone. Still fiddling w/ some things, but it works great so far.

Anyone else experiences "stiction" on the stick? Apart from the terrible deadzone, its the one thing that rly es me off, the light sticking, or "unsmoothness" of some of the stick's movements. Light left is a real problem, right a bit too but less, and front/back are both buttery smooth, as everything else should be.

Thrustmaster t flight hotas x

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting the Thrustmaster t flight hotas x joystick but I have questions about it:

1: The reviews I saw states it's a must but I don't know, keyboard and mouse not good enough for the game or what about an xbox 360 wireless gamepad?

2: The joystick very old was released in 2009 apparently what about game compatibility for the future and elite dangerous.

If anyone that has the same joystick could answer above questions.

I bought this joystick for forty of your Earth coins.
It is the best forty Earth coins I have spent.
I can't believe the quality for the money.

the x box controller is great but a Hotas set up will give you so much more emersion in the game they can't really be compared.

These joysticks use a standard protocol for communication I'm not an expert but I would imagine it's the same protocol on most joysticks. It works on my mac in both OSX and windows.

I got one for about £35 and to be honest it is perfect, no issues , have had it for 6 months and if it broke tomorrow i would buy another one. At that price its a giveaway

I understand it's good for the money and a good initial HOTAS for players who aren't into sims in general. It's a steal for the price.

However, a number of players have reported issues in build quality, particularly with the potentiometers that translate your movements into data the game engine can parse.

the T1600M uses hall effect sensors that have no moving parts and will therefore last a lot longer and will more accurately detect your inputs. It's not a HOTAS though - the throttle is a slider on the base of the stick, but it has a fair few buttons on the base, multiple triggers and a hat switch. You can use your left hand to manage non-flight functions on the keyboard. It's less than 40 pounds.

For a few months, I used a Saitek Cyborg V.1 with a Logitech G13 gamepad. That worked well enough. However, I upgraded to an X52 Pro, and would never swap back to a cheaper stick. It's magical.

I have one and I would not recommend it! I am one of those players mentioned that have problems with the potentiometers finding it impossible to get smooth accurate movement and cross hair placement during dog fights. Using an old joystick confirmed this problem was with the Thrustmaster. I am currently investigating an alternative.

I'd go along with that. I've been using mine for a year and it's working as well as it did out of the box. For the price, it just can't be beaten.

It's the best hotas stick for under 50 bucks. Ppl say the thrustmaster t16000m is more accurate (and has configurable deadzones via the t.a.r.g.e.t. software), but no separated throttle there, so I went for the hotas x.

It definitely has a couple of problems (i just stated them in my previous post, just before yours - non configurable deadzones and some "stiction" in some movements). But that being said I'm pretty happy w/ it (recently bought), especially because its freakin great for immersion. Also, having all controls at hand at all times is rly good gameplay-wise. I highly recommend it over keyboard/mouse.

Looking for a cheap HOTAS setup? Get one of these!

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16879337003

(I got it on UK Amazon for £35, as I live in England. Look in other places too for the cheapest deal!)

It's the only HOTAS setup I've ever used, so I do speak with inexperience of these kinds of peripherals.
I am, however a heavy sim gamer, so I also have a G27 FFB wheel for racing sims.

Personally, I haven't been dissappointed. I used this guy's bindings:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=16140 and I've been very happy ever since.

For this price point, (Cheaper than ED!) I can't really argue, I would've got one if it cost more.

Here's are some points of what I think about it:
It's a lot larger than I thought, so it will take up considerable desk space, but at this size, it fits adult hands well!
It's very ergonomic, the shape of the stick and throttle feel very natural to hold, no comfort issues here!
Quite a few reviews have said it feels cheap, but they still recommend it - the "cheap" feeling here personally, is more about the look to me than the feel, which is definitely more important.
I guess if you're fairly concerned about materials, it's just feels like any other plastic in your palms, which is probably what they mean by the feel of the product.
While you're playing, you'll hardly care about it - it just feels amazing to be using a HOTAS setup in this game at all!

Feel free to ask questions about this set!

When I consider a HOTAS, I just remember that when I used an old joystick that had good suckers on the bottom, I would frequently rip the whole thing off the table. I understand that they dont even have the suckers nowadays
Am I just a beast, or is it just a different experience so you dont do that sort of violent action.

You're a beast.

The X52 Pro has suckers and bolts that you can use to attach the stick to a table. Provided you have a table/desk you don't mind vandalizing, of course.
