I have just the right hand portion of this setup - I think its called Thrustmaster T-Flight X, or something like that, and the base is reasonably heavy and wide. The only time it comes off the desk is..... moments of extreme frustration !!

It's a damn fine stick BTW :)

I'll throw my hat into this also.

Bought a T-Flight HOTAS X back in January for using in Elite and FSX and can say I'm very impressed by it for it's price. Managed to get it for €51 here in Greece so it's an equivalent price to UK/US.

The base is nice and heavy but in some situations you can accidently lift the base in anger but this is very rare, the stick also has a tension adjuster to make it feel as light or heavy as you want it.

If you are on a tight budget but still want a HOTAS setup, get one of these.

I have the same one bought from Maplins, yes I could of saved £5 getting it from amazon but I wanted it NOW damn it!

Must say it added a new level of fun to the game and I personally think your ship responds faster to the HOTAS than it does the keyboard and mouse.

For the longest time after getting ED, I was using a wireless XBOX 360 controller, and it worked just fine for me (I also use Voice Attack for the stuff I don't have enough buttons for -- very fine program for just $8, and very configureable). Recently, I was able to get my hands on a Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS X, and once I practiced with it in the tutorials a bit, and got my controls set up just the way I wanted them, I haven't gone back to the XBOX controller.

My take on the HOTAS X is that it's great but it'll never be as accurate as a mouse - at least in my hands. Immersion-wise it's really great. I'll get a full review of the product done eventually but for now I'd say that anyone who is thinking about getting one for "fun" instead of for "performance" should go right ahead. I do also have concerns over build quality however at the price it's hard to be too harsh on it regarding that.

I've decided to upgrade and will shortly (Monday) be in possession of an X52, so I'm offering my T-Flight HOTAS to anyone who needs it for free.

As this is for free I'd like to give it to one of our fellows who is playing with a controller or (shudder) KB+Mouse ideally. I'll even pay shipping :)

I thought for a while that it would be nice to have an ED classifieds forum for people to donate/sell/swap gear. I have a whole bunch of PC bits I want to get rid of but ebay is just too much of a ball ache not to mention that its nice to know something is going to a good home.
