It would be rather good if the game could be put on general release (or at least Gamma) on 20th September - the 30th anniversary of the release of Elite.

Yes, between the middle of the summer and beginning of the autumn, it's more or less the same period
A lot of people on this forum, me included, believe that the game will be released this September to co-inside with the 30th anniversary of the release of the original Elite. In his recent very interesting interview with David Braben Scott Manley suggested this date as a possible release date and David didn't really go out of his way to deny this date was in Frontiers thoughts so watch this space...
However, the 30th anniversary of the Elite does not mean much for the majority of the new generations of players. Therefore, only the former Elite players could be sensitive to symbol
Personally I can't see the two Beta phases taking as much time as the Alpha has, I recon Alpha 1 to be at most a month, Beta 2 less than that 2/3 weeks .. Gamma on the other hand is an unknown quantity, it's a new addition to the time line and possibly just there to delay the final release for the optimum time/date (probably the 30th anniversary) so Frontier can perfect the code.... but who really knows ? .... Well, DB probably
Thx, I 've been an Elite player since it was first released in the 80's... I succeeded to become a 'dangerous' player if I remember it correctly. I tried for Elite but failed... I always was a big fan of SF books. My favourite writers are Alfred Bester, Jack Vance, Orson Scott Card and Douglas Adams...

Personally, I think the Christmas period would be more appropriate than the anniversary on September 30th (for the retail version). September is the start of school, bills and taxes. Christmas is synonymous with holidays and gifts
This will be done in no time at all, compared to how slowly we managed to crawl out of the water, in this primary Galaxy. That takes impatience and breaks it in half, and put the whales out again, just for sport.

Premium beta release time?
When on Wednesday is the beta going to be released? My timezone is UTC+2 hours.
I've got Thursday and Friday vacations and already piling up some additional hours to be done early on Wednesday. I hope to be able to spend a few hours on Wednesday already with the Game.

It will be released on 30th May. What you are talking is alpha 4, which release date is unknown at this point.

No, but historically some have been released around 16:00 - 18:00 UTC, some around 11:00 UTC and at least one past 20:00 UTC.
So, the game is how fast you can burn that F5 key on the day.
Or get a tab auto-reload add-on for your browser, perhaps?

I did use the search function, and it did not answer this specific question (at least not in the first few pages of results). So hopefully this isn't a repeat question.
Premium Beta is slated for release on May 30th. Do we have a rough idea what time this will be released on that day? What is the usual method for Elite to come out? Mid day UK? End of day? Midnight?
I realize it's all speculation and it comes out when it comes out, but I'm trying to decide if it's worth taking the day off.
