Time to pay attention to Tip Offs again?

A Tip Off gives you just a starting point for your search, but not the Inra bases or important findings directly... if you begin searching you will find those breadcrumps in 20ly range and sooner or later you will stumble upon something important, like the inra bases.
What does that mean? You get a tip off and if you comb all the planets in a 20 Ly radius you might find something?

Correct! That something was in my case (so far) either a permanent crashed ship that got revealed by a detailed surface scan , or a ++ / +++ settlement with a scan-able core beacon that gave me a message!
If you find such a place you have the next breadcrump and can start searching 20 ly from there.

I think you can still visit the site and receive the message! The data core just pays less. I visited bookmarked sites (which I never visited before) after months / years and still received messages.
In this case, the wrecks weren't even there.

Good question. In one recent case they actually did, but 3 others not. Would be nice to hear from FD how it's meant to work - now and in future.
Really good question. I've also noted that behavior is different in particular cases. Not ready to confirm, must be investigated further.

Here is one another spreadsheet that can be of help for you - ED:H - Tip Off cross distances

Great work! Thank you for this!
But, may I be a little bit cheeky and ask you for one last addition please?
While my theory is that those Tip Offs were always supposed to lead us to some new discoveries, could you please add distances for settlements like Inra bases etc?
Here is a list:
https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Settlement

Thanks to your rumor sheet I already noticed that also inactive, bygone Tip Offs, were in the 20 ly range of several Inra bases.

Will check more rumors now and try to fill the gap to HIP 15329, Stuart retreat, in my moot breadcrumb trail.

Really good question. I've also noted that behavior is different in particular cases. Not ready to confirm, must be investigated further.

I made two or three spot tests, which means I visited coordinates of rumored TOs and till now have not found any ships on planets which the DSS did not reveal.
Processing the rumors sheet is enough effort, so I will not visit the planet anymore if the DSS does not reveal anything and if there is no ++/+++ settlement.
In such a case I will assume the TO has been deleted, or made inactive.
On the other hand, with help of the DSS I already found more than 10 occurrences of crashed ships on different planets. So I guess the DSS is supposed to reveal those sites.

Ok =)
Besides, some "tinfoil"=) - as there is one TO scan message that contains "Hansel" and "Gretel" - this can serve as a "+" for your "breadcrumb" theory.

for info - a dedicated channel for TO collection and related theories has been created (in fact - just renamed) recently on IRH Discord (#tip-off-recycling)

Hmmpf... me as linux user avoids Discord as much as possible. This and my ancient computer urges me to save resources whereever possible.

However, will share results here or via DM as soon as I finished my journey.... I'm now halfway through the rumors sheet.

List of Tip Off destinations from the community. Thanks again to djadjok for the enhanced rumor sheet!
Those on this list are positive results - that means they still do exist and give messages (at least they did for me, maybe someone else has different results)

And here are the negative results... they used to be TipOff destinations in the past, but probably were removed (at least for me).
I mapped given planets from the rumors sheet and if the DSS showed nothing, I assumed the TO site has been deleted.
Except - some TO ship crash sites were replaced by ++ or +++ settlements with scanable core beacons.
If such settlements happened to be on a planet from the rumors sheet, I visited them and scanned the beacon.

I am really not sure if a decryption key is needed to get those messages. On some wrecks the core was encrypted, but I received a message anyhow.
The only exception was the crashed ship on HIP 117972, which gave me no message at all.

My assumption is, the core data package is the thing the contract giver / mysterious stranger wants to have and what the key is for. They pay for the decrypted data.
Everything else we may find (the message) is the something we can keep and probably no key is needed here.

Next step is to prove my 'breadcrumb theory' and try to fill the gap to HIP 15329 and HIP 16824.

My hypothesis is, that a TO destination like Torno etc. marks a starting point, or an intermediate point of a trail, which may lead to further findings, like Inra bases e.g..
The mysterious stranger gives us a initial hint from there we can start our search. The messages form the storyline behind the trail.
The distances may be different for each trail, but in case of the, let's call it 'Inra trail', John Jamesons Cobra might have been the 'distance giver' of around 20 ly.
Here is again a part of the Inra trail: HIP 6324 <- 22,97 ly -> Jang O <- 20,59 ly -> Takan <- 22,58 -> 12 Trianguli <- 19,8 ly -> Paestae <- 22,79 lx -> HIP 12314 <- 21,99 ly -> HIP 12099
So it is possible that the messages from these sites tell the story of John Jameson and finally lead to his crash site, or even further to all Inra bases in this sector (which I still try to figure out at the moment).

If a different TO leads to a ship crash site, the crashed wreck could be the distance giver. I'm not sure whether it is always ~20 ly.
The hypothesis is still fresh and there is still a lot unclear, which has to be figured out. But, at least I hope so, there is also something to find along

It would be nice to have an in-game trail that leads to TDW station and thence to Raxxla. It would be a fitting replacement for the Elite/Founder missions that started the Quest for Raxxla thread but which disappeared some time ago...

Skimmed thread - so not sure if you're looking for this. Anyhoo - haven't done tip offs for a while, but decided to go and investigate one I'd never seen before (but I'm sure everyone else probably has :)). Balte - it's on your list (though I confess not sure what you meant by crossing it off). Anyway it's a crashed type 9 or 10. There's a cargo rack with high grade mats (antimony, rutherium etc. depending on relog) AND a Thargoid sensor. Comms is talking about getting an SRV working again....

Balte 1 a Coords: 0.62, -45.74 ship is in a hollow, but there's a small plain to land at nearby.

BTW - got the tip off when was replenishing money at Robigo - 600 LY away...

Seems like that one's been around a while.
