This doesn't help.
At this point I assume you're an agent, working for Null, sent to destroy our efforts to organize!

lol - I'm not exactly undercover. I'm wearing the armband and shouting his slogans at people with a megaphone :D

Friend,

I can understand why you went with Null.

You were scared and alone and out of options.
We could blame society, the schools, Coldplay or a variety of other societal ills but the assignment of blame really doesn't leave much room for healing.

I'm all about healing.

What I'm offering you is an option.
You no longer have to side with evil, oppression, and lukewarm pizza with pineapple topping. (1)
You have a choice now.

Look into your heart.
I'm sure you'll find your way.

Friend,

We could blame society, the schools, Coldplay...

When Coldplay stops playing, Vin will stop murdering for the Overlord.

I also want someone to forcefeed a bowl of Kraft Mc & Cheese to that Paltrow chick. Make her drink a diet coke, too. Something with lots of aspartame.

I thought the law and order changes were supposed to make being a murder-hobo an ever-escalating threat level - much like the police pursuit in GTA - which would drive griefers out of civilised systems, into Anarchy systems.

While the majority of the 'muderhoboing' the OP refers to did actually take place in unregulated space, no system that doesn't actually impose consequences for actions could ever force such CMDRs out of regulated space for any length of time.

C&P is largely there to limit murder as a BGS tool, otherwise it would be far and away the easiest way to shift influence.

In practice nothing seems to have changed and I find the "suck it up or play in SOLO" response unacceptable. Why should the majority of players be scattered to isolated private groups for the benefit of a handful of anti-social griefers?

Those binary extremes aren't really reflective of the possible gameplay options. I don't feel that I've had to 'suck it up' and I certainly don't play in Solo or PG.

I have no issue with real piracy (where cargo, not murder is the objective) or combat in the context of combat zones, power play, etc. but the murder of other players for zero objective is not playing the game on any level and serves no purpose, other the amusement of the perpetrators. What it serves to do is make victimised players leave the game for either a short time, or for good. In my view gankers & griefers are toxic to the game and should be discouraged by any means necessary.

Impossible to reliably ascertain the motive of most such actions and your personal definition of legitimate objectives is probably too narrow for Frontier's tastes.

The "git gud" response is also absurd, since no amount of skill can make a trade ship capable of surviving an highly engineered alpha-strike from one or more specialised combat ships. The idea is ridiculous. You die in seconds. You don't even have time to turn your ship, much less deploy hard-points. So that is not in any way a valid solution.

This is a complete fallacy.

The game is so phenomenally slanted in favor of defense that I'm astounded anyone with Horizons has their CMDRs ever get shot down at all, unless they were deliberately looking for trouble. Even without Horizons, the majority of hostile encounters can be avoided and the majority that cannot be avoided can be survived.

I don't want to "punish" murder-hobos, but the game should make it such that once that path is taken a ship cannot stay in a star-system with even minimal security without an ever-escalating series of attacks from authority ships. This would bring Elite Dangerous into line with the original game, make being a murder-hobo a dangerous cat-n-mouse exercise and make non-anarchy systems safe for the majority to play in OPEN making the game better for all.

Unless the game increases it's already absurd dichotomy between CMDR and NPC, the sort of consequences that would be reasonable in a plausible setting will be far too harsh for most players to find appealing.

Most players couldn't handle a high verisimilitude C&P system and such a system would drive off players far more readily than anything other CMDRs could do. By and large, the player base seems to want C&P to be absent, except when it benefits them. It's this profound double standard that limits how far Frontier will go with C&P.

If you are in anarchy there are no consequences at all.

Well, only the consequences you bring with you.

If I were capable of crying I'd be a total mess right now.

So... you like it? *blush*

I kind of see it as just the beginning of an epic poem charting your rise to glory and power. Picture the scene, in the soon-to-be-realized future. You sitting in your great hall, surrounded by trusty warriors like a Viking Lord of old, flagons of mead going around, firelight flickering on the rafters... oh wait.. does this go with spaceships? Oh to hell with it, we could be having a cosplay theme night, right? Where was I? Oh right, flagons of mead, flaxen haired maidens, the scent of roasting meats, the tinkling of a harp, and I, your faithful bard, intoning these words aloud! You know... I seem to feel inspiration coming on again! :D

Frankly, I think WargzBard should be a depressed android.

LOL, well I can be a bit bi-polar at times. Does that help?

Oh by the way my lord, you know how those tiresome gankers go ZO all the time? I think your folllowers should say WO, because that is what you'll bring to our enemies, geddit? :D

As much as I like the picture you're conjuring, the sad fact is I'm only the record keeper for the organization.
We're in desperate need of real leadership.

I briefly considered Null because, you know, two birds with one stone, but then pushed the idea out of my mind because a leader should always be able to find his pants. This got me to thinking, maybe we should have a female leader because men will follow a woman anywhere. NOW THAT would make for an excellent epic poem! So I think for the time being we should look for female leadership to highlight our forward thinking and to better contrast with the throwbacks that make up Null's legions.

I'm looking in Krash's direction.

And then griefers and gankers will learn to circumvent/live with it, and the players who were relying on it to save them will whine and cry because it has negatively affected them.

Damn, that would involve a few rewrites! Might mean a writer's strike! As you wish my lord, but I had assumed you had already felt the touch of destiny's hand. Don't be shy to answer the call!

No but seriously I adore Krash and would follow her anywhere. As you wish, my lord. But what did you think of my WO idea?

Am I being recruited to lead the group of lawfuls that will confront ZO and his band of seal clubbers? I am seriously tempted but I think I'm getting my hair done that night. And ... it's a trap, but nice try fellas.

Zoltah,

It appears that Krash is out so I wouldn't bother re-writing any poetry.
She did manage to bring to light the issue that many may perceive our efforts as a 'trap'.
Probably because your poetry includes a line about 'flaxen haired maidens', which lets be honest, is so very 3285.

Wouldn't you agree?

We need to find a way to gain people's trust - this is more complicated than I initially imagined.
I've some thinking to do.

*pouting* Well, I'm put out.
Krash tends to be a bit paranoid and likes to be the strong and silent type. You never know, she might come round. If she does, I'm good with female leadership, and any bard worth their *salt* (geddit? lol) can handle a few rewrites. You don't like flaxen haired maidens? Oh well... each to their own I guess. And that bit wasn't going in the poem, that was meant to be the celebration party with Zarek's head hanging on the wall.

And don't be so easily discouraged by the mockery of the PvP rabble! *
