Horizons Time to upgrade to Horizons?

I haven't upgraded to Horizons, mostly because SRV's or Engineers didn't seem that interesting to me, I didn't want to add another layer of "grind", and I read a lot of forum posts about issues in each release of 2.x. Lately though I've been considering it, 1.6 is getting a bit stale and it's time for something new. But every time I read about no commodity storage, and idiotic RNG mod mechanics, and each time I get interdicted incessantly because I have 4t of coils or hoses, i grit my teeth and want to hold off until they fix these things as they are/will only be frustrating.

I like this game a lot, I'd rather put up with the odd issue now (updated delivery in 0.0h....) rather than get frustrated with bad design and bin it.
So, does the good outweigh the bad? Should I just keep on with 1.6, add 2.1 now, or wait until 2.2 (and the inevitable problems/patches) has the kinks worked out?

TIA

Me and my group love Horizons, we love turning off the orbit lines and being blown away by the epic size of the planets as they roll past and then get closer and closer as we come in for a landing on a moon that is so big in its scale.
If this sounds cool then buy it. If this does nothing for you then save your money.

Yes the good outweighs the bad.

I would advise not holding onto the commodities. Just plan and go hunting when you need them. Most can be bought only a few are mission reward only. http://inara.cz/ is a great resource for the engineers and the game in general.

For mats again only a few are mission reward only, most can be found with some research on here.

I don't see interdictions going away anytime soon it is no different in Horizons and has always been part of the elite games.

Like I said to others with the same question, it is worth it. It have some illogical things in it from my point of view like ships can't carry extra fuel for SRV and you need to focus on magic rocks to make the SRV run, and of course the lack of personal storage when you will want to upgrade your ships at engineers. This 2 for me are the biggest illogical things yet and its frustrating at some points. At engineers you will have to spend some more time because of this lack of personal storage but keep in mind engineering a ship isn't a must do thing just yet. But overall, I had my great times with it and I don't feel sorry of buying it :p

Thanks guys/gals, appreciate the feedback. I'll probably download it this week sometime and start tinkering with it. I'd really like to extend the range on my cutter (it sucks on these long haul CG's), the only way to do it is RNGineering it....

Go for it. if you like 1.6 you're going to love 2.1, don't pay too much attention to all the nay sayers they play just as much as the rest of us, and why because the good outways the bad.

The store also has sales from time to time of about 25% which would make it even better value if you are that bothered and can wait.

I got horizons and it was fun landing on planets and taking missions that required landing on planets and then i upgraded a few modules at the engineers.
The engineers was easily the most frustrating gaming experience i ever had, partly, i think because the rest of elite dangerous up to that point had been so great.
I still play the basic game, but got a refund for horizons after flying around for over an hour looking for a certain type of wake scan that an engineers upgrade required.
Flying around cursing FD for their idiocy is not my idea of fun, so i got a refund.
If your blood pressure is in good shape and you have lots of patience and you dont mind seeing a great game sabotaged, go for the "upgrade" :)
The basic game is worth 30 USD imo, otoh you would have to pay me to deal with the engineers.

The engineers kinda suck but I like being planetside. It's calm, it's quiet, you have a geiger counter thingy that chirps and sings a tune and you can brutally attack surface installations. The latter hands you a well done soundscape and fun gameplay.

Edit: It feels very spacy.

I think Horizons is great as are the Engineers. My Asp now has a jump range of 48.5 LY, Corvette 22LY, Cutter 34 LY. After just Level 3 Dirty Drive tuning, the Cutter boosts to 400 and is crazy maneuverable with just 8D thrusters.

I'll add my £0.02 if I may.

1) You cannot physically ask for better value. £20 for what is currently looking to be well over a year's worth of updates? Do it. Do it man.

2) Don't get put off by the RNGineer grind. A lot of what gets bandied about on the forums are how difficult it is to obtain high level mods, or the suckiness of RNG ruining high level rolls. If you're not into the work (I am into that work by the way ;) ) then you can ignore the rabble on the forums, which is usually a good idea anyway, and spend next to no time getting grade 1/2 mods for your ship. Comparatively this journey is fun, unlocking the basic RNGineers is kinda a cool experience, and you'll get a notably improved ship for little work.

You should get it. The     les are just that:     les. The degree to which it opens up the galaxy is phenomenal, but it's not compatible with the grind mindset. You won't do any better grinding on planets (except for engineer upgrades). Just enjoy the scale of things. The planets are as big as planets. Head out to one of the interesting ones if you like (google). Even if you're not really moved by the idea of a sterile planet, flying around one that has interesting terrain really is special. Though I do wish the ones with a surface temperature that ought to result in glowing actually did glow. 900K+ should be more interesting than it is. But that's just another     le.

Wow. Can't say n.i.g.g., even if it's part of n.i.g.g.l.e.

You are kidding right, Horizons was just on steam sale for 16 odd euros and you are still wondering if it's worth updating with the content being added in 2.1 & 2.2, basically only half way thru the season. Do you want the new content for free or how low does the price have to go. Really such posts are bloody farcical at this stage.
