Horizons Tip off missions.

I did one once took a couple of hours and rewards were poor so I wouldn't do one again FD need to say what they pay upfront after all once bitten twice shy

I'm in the middle of one of these. Just like a previous poster in this thread, mine is the mission to Athena 2.
So far I have scanned the ships data core, picked up the cargo scattered there and found, a short distance away from the crash site, a data point thing to scan so have done that too.

So far, no notification of a mission complete and I'm stuck for what else I need to do. I dunno if it's bugged or what.

EDIT : Yesterday, I've been able to sell a data/intel package later in a spatioport, something like "data ship core"...

But only for 7116 Cr.

And... bugged for me to!

I have scanned the ship data core, but no update/notification on any kind of mission.

What a pity.

I received my first tip off mission last night, didn't even know of their existence.
Going to try it out if I have time tonight.
Crossing fingers not bugged.

Greetings CMDRs!

A video showing an example of a "Tip off mission". [XBOX platform]
I'm not Ridley Scott , but finally, it's not that bad...
A beautiful journey, and this time it worked as intended.

CMDR OniKoni,

fly safe CMDRs!

My first tip off was some crashed ship, too. But recently I got my second one and... well...

NOOOPE! Not touching that with a ten foot pole!

(If stuff you shoot didn't respawn after only a few minutes, I'd try, but the way it's now, this is nigh on impossible. You shoot down a generator to get down a forcefield, and by the time you're at the force field, the generator is up again. Nope. Too much hassle for what amounts to nothing compared to what I can gather elsewhere far more easily and a lot quicker. And for this specific one I'd have to accept a bounty on my head, too!)

Like everyone else I guess, I got a tip off mission to go to a location to scan wreckage (ha!) on a planet a 100 ly away for an insurance company. The job was to be completed in an unrevealed but limited time, for an unknown reward. Should I go. Let me think….. Perhaps like delivery missions, I will just be landing when I get told that the mission has now moved to the opposite side of the galaxy.
More seriously, how long do you normally get. Or am I missing the exciting immersive gameplay aspect.

Try once.

Maybe a bit off topic, but ground assault, for want of a better description, you kill all the turrets, then the skimmers, and by the time the second skimmer is dead, the first respawns along with the turrets.
Yet, some gamers seem to manage.

I'm doing roughly the same mission. I scanned the data core, but received no update of any kind. Does it update when you leave the planet or something?

Same here. 200LY trip, scan shipwreck, 200Ly back, 90K credit for the data drop # it promised lots of credits. seriously, why? Could have done so much more with this kind of mission but instead just left me wondering why I bothered and whether I will bother again next time

Thanks to all for the responses. The mission said 'hurry!', which I guess is an indicator of the time, so I may not bother.
Every one I receive always has an expiration date. I just now got one and it expires on April 11th.
Though the mission generally only requires one to scan something, there are generally items around to scoop up for resale. All of the crashed ship missions I've done also have escape pods one can turn in at various stations.

I suppose these give me the option of something different once in a while. Although if it's credits you're after, you'll probably make more bounty hunting at high security nav beacons in the same time it takes.

EDIT: Now I just noticed that this thread was a timetravel in itself. Perhaps close?

For those interested in time-travel back to 2016, here's what was learned back then about TIP OFF:
