and calling people sociopaths
It's sociopathic behaviour. It serves no purpose, there is no challenge, I genuinely don't see any fun for either party... so draw your own conclusions as to why they do it.

and calling people sociopaths
and calling people idiotsClearly you are missing the point entirely.
Why should I, as an unarmed explorer, be forced to STOP playing in Open because of idiots? Wouldn't it be better to have a system whereby I can still interact with others, but not have the idiots ruin my day? The idiots can still carry on ganking each other to their hearts content.
Even someone medically qualified wouldn't attempt to diagnose antisocial personality disorders (or indeed any other personality disorder) based on a few posts someone makes on an internet forum. To me, it's self-evident. People who do this, whether in real life, or in an immersive computer game like E: D, are sociopaths. Maybe people don't like the word, but then maybe the truth hurts.
Especially given the amount of victim blaming and 'git gud' nonsense you see constantly on here.
PvP should always be consensual. And playing in Open is not a consent to PvP. Otherwise there's no challenge whatsoever for the attacker, and it just annoys the victim. Where is the fun for either party here?
Again, an exaggerated affirmation, that could only really apply if the player that loses the ship didn't have enough for the rebuy and had to start from scratch something that can also happen against NPCs, or someone lost weeks of exploration data, which can also happen is solo mode. The only difference is the victims perception of the motives behind the attack: if it happens against an NPC we rage against ourselves or against Frontier, if against a player we transfer it all to the other player - why is that?
your ship comes with two fixed lasers - why did you remove them?Clearly you are missing the point entirely.

If you sell your exploration data near the edge of the bubble you are extremely unlike to meet a player either.I can avoid NPCs easily enough by simply not going to a place where aggressive NPCs congregate.

I really don't know what you think you're doing here other than making yourself look foolish.
don't lose your data then - ezExplorers lose all their data if they don't sell it. It can be billions, and takes months to accumulate. It's got nothing to do with the ship.

ftfy...across the world in Open Play, where every pilot you face could become a trusted ally oryour deadliest enemysteam roll over you without a breaking a sweat.
I'm not going to be 'explaining' anything mate because I'm a tax inspector not a psychologist. And yet, nobody has explained to me where the fun for either party is in ganking someone who has no ability to defend themselves... in the name of "PvP".
Explain why this is not a reflection on the psychology of the person who knowingly does this to another player minding their own business?

Yeah, but people have a skewed idea of the dangers of open because of these forum threads, and I place a lot of the blame on Frontier's shoulders, for not providing a more gradual progression through the engineers via a more robust C&P system. The game allows gankers to roam Deciat all day - why?Anybody who's that bothered about PvP, but is also that desperate for a multiplayer experience should really be signing up to Mobius or an equivalent PvE group.
Said a similar thing for years, mind you.
If FDev created an "official" PvE mode (somehow) it'd probably kill Open, stone dead.
To answer the OP's question directly, I dunno.
Most of the time, the only reason I play in Solo is because I'm doing something that I don't want interrupting or I'm doing something where other players, in general, would be an extra hassle so PvP, specifically, isn't a reason I stay out of Open.
I do understand the OP's sentiment, though.
Most of us would probably like to have the broadest multiplayer experience possible and if people are denying themselves that for fear of PvP I guess that's a bit of a shame.
it requires to use brain, it is better to fly straight to Deciat or ShinIf you sell your exploration data near the edge of the bubble you are extremely unlike to meet a player either.
For that I would transfer to a stronger ship, there are plenty of ungankable builds.Right, so now I can't sell my data to the faction I want.
Gotcha.![]()
don't lose your data then - ez

I can't help but notice that you missed the point quite spectacularly.
Yep, and I think it would add an extra dimension to BGS play, if the security level could be influenced to either create and maintain safe trade routes or interrupt them. What would put me in Open:
Green (safe) systems: Fast and extremely effective, engineered NPC Security which would low-wake in 5-12 seconds and pursue PvP attacker like Cornelius Evazan, until he has death penalty in twelve systems and is turned to dust.
Red (Anarchy) systems: Anyone can fire at will at anyone without any penalty.
That'd give me some safety in the Open and make me rethink my trading routes, maybe to sometimes go around some Anarchy systems (or risk it?).
W'd love that.
