To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

Interesting.

I know that block exists and can be used however you see fit but in your example above you (I think) mention CG lurkers.

Could an argument be made that blocking CMDRs opposing a CG for whatever reason is blocking in bad faith? Especially when there are plentiful PvE PGs or solo?

That presupposes a PvP destruction hierarchy where CZ is the least egregious and a 10km rail attack at Deciat on your wife is the worst example on this "ganker spectrum"
I had mentioned months before in a similar thread that this is exactly what I am missing. At the first Torval vs. Wrecken CG I flew for Torval and was ganked over and over again in my then unengineered mining Krait. If the gankers had just announced in system chat "We blockade the Pride of Bitterwood because they are evil slavers and don't want them here. Be warned every ship approaching will be attacked!" I could fully buy that. Man, that would be cool RP indeed. Sadly gankers don't care for that and just want to blow up players (for what ever reasons. The explosions can not be the reason cause I tested if player booom is different from NPC booom... They are not)

What has bravery or the lack of it got to do with playing a game?

I bought the game to play for my own relaxation, entertainment and enjoyment. I will play it how I want, not how someone else wants me to play it.

Say there were two version of the game and players could only buy one.

Open only or solo/pg/open at the player's choice.

The open vesion would likely be a ghost town whilst the others would be full of CMDRs enjoying themselves.

I watched a video the other day by a MMO content creator. Essentially the open only games are full of bullies who get their jollies whilst making the game unplayable for those that are not as strong as them, including new players who do not have a hope of progressing, as all that happens is they get stomped on. Again and again. Then they leave the game. Initially many new games attract a large number of players, but within months if not weeks many players become stronger than the rest and stomp all others into oblivion along with any newcomers. They end up having to move from server to server to find new victims.

You can have my solo/pg options only when you can prise them from my cold, dead hands (apologies to Charlton Heston).

Tri-mode is here to stay @SteveWW57 , there'll be no prising on FDEVs watch!

Genuinely, a line of chat would make the difference @TobiasFuzz ?

Would RPing that they have said it already, e.g. assuming that's the reason yourself with no input help?
I believe from my heart that ED is a RP Space Simulator. Look at Galnet and the effort FDev put in storytelling. Look how many cmdr's on INARA have given themselves a background story. Yes, that one line would make a big difference for me. If course for example at CGs I can imagine that something in-game is driving the gankers. I do this because they don't do it, but it is a crude solution only for myself and my "Immersion". That said I am not in solo, have no one on my block list and I don't condem reasonable PvP. I don't think I demand to much. Just some gameplay according behavior.

Players who want to avoid the threat posed by other players have Solo and Private. Players who want a mode which allows them to operate in Open and while being invulnerable to other players, which is what the OP is suggesting might be good for the game, are selfish.
What does it remove from you, original open would still be available? Oh perhaps some all ready unwilling targets, ie. people being in open for co-op instead of PVP....

I am with you and if there were easier comms or a statement of intent that's flagged when you're pursued it would certainly help.

Big problem is that intra-CMDR Comms is such a faff (to be quick you almost have to use macros set up out of game).

What's really bad (from my POV) is when you jump in you can't easily tell hostile CMDRs from non-hostile easily. There are some third party tools that can help, but nothing on the UI that flags "terrorists" at a glance.

Immersion does kind of break down when no one is reacting to a mass murder flying about Willy-nilly. A heads up would be nice!

No more selfish than those who choose to impose their gameplay on others with scant regard for whether, or not, the target has any "fun".

It is in essence a form of cyberbullying. Or just call it tocic behaviour.
If you dont like it start holding decs of such designs responsible. Or the company operating and selling access to it. They are the ones who ignore setting proper environments.

For this I would consider you a ganker and deal with you. IF there are in-game reasons that would justify attacking me and I don't know them, it is your fault.
You don't want me to deliver stuff to a specific location because of some strange BGS mechanic (for wich I couldn't care less), you have to tell me and offer compensation for I am not delivering. That's how it should work. It is also Ok to threaten me and not offer compensation. But then it is my choice if I leave you alone, try my luck to pass by you or simple switch to solo / block you. But any attack without conversation is ganking (I could eventually agree that in PP / CZ it is ok)
Not in a game where a competent gankee can escape in 15 Seconds, at least not beforehand.
I'd send you a friend invite and explain later, problem is then I'm propably already blocked or get "nice" messages that are more abusive than blowing up your space pixel ship.

Basically yeah one can escape with a gank proof ship from most situations. Thats why my standard is not getting blowed for blocking somebody, but gank attempt itself. Though usually I do ask for explanation. If that is something I deem good enough, I let it fly.
