To Solo Play Players: If You Could Disable PVP, Would You Play in Open Play Mode Instead?

Now conversely, there should be more incentives to be that pirate type. Wouldn't it be nice if you blew up a player ship and one of the cargo your limpets scoop up is a winning lotto ticket? Just saying. Maybe that nice engine that the guy almost got away with? (I don't mean to take it out of the rebuy for the guy that died, just drop a copy)
All in all ED is a great game, well thought out. As with all things, there is always room for improvement. This sandbox does need a bully here and there, and sometimes that bully needs his hand slapped a little harder lol.. and rewarded with something more than a cookie. Its the imbalance that drives players to sit in solo, not the pvp.

Just my thoughts on the subject

Piracy attempt fails when you resort to blowing up your target. Target gets rebuy, and you get nothing. By providing that kind of reward you are actually rewarding GANKING not piracy.

It was during live stream a while back.

This type of discussion reappears occasionally, and nothing changes.

There are gankers in Open. They are numerically insignificant within the overall population, but their activities are magnified on the forums by raging hyperbole.

Their activities are also simple and predictable...
1. Shinrarta
2. CG systems
3. Deciat

Occasionally, though rarely nowadays...
4. Power Play core systems
5. Guardian sites when they first came out

That's it. 99.9% of the galaxy is just Cmdrs getting on with whatever they are doing.

And 99.9% of the PvP is not "ganking" (this is another popular misconception).

Wondering where this 99,9% of "not ganking PvP" is... 100% of PvP I was involved in was ganking so far.
If you never attack anyone, then you will of course define yourself as the "attackee" in all cases, and if you also avoid CZs and never do power play then what is left?
You could get asked to wing up in a CZ with players from your side (has happened to me) but you will also get attacked because, well, it's a war.

Not exactly related to the topic, but i noticed a few remarks from the PvP people upset that Solo players also effect the Background Simulation, and that imho should not really upset them. Look at it this way, in our current real world economy no-one is going to have exact data on each and every trade transaction that takes place. It's just an 'impossible to know' kind of data set. So in a way the Solo players you can not track/see in Open are acting like that in ED's economy.

It actually makes the overall economy more realistic, although i would suggest that if more players play in Solo than Open it would make actively changing things in game harder to do in any coordinated manner, so IF that is your concern as an Open PvP player, maybe you should find ways to change the way you play your PvP game to encourage more of us Solo players to WANT to play with you? Just a thought.

The more people try to restrict the market the more they promote the black market.
Whether that is the BGS version or in the case of BGS 'blockade' players using solo etc.
Of course this generally applies to BGS players while rando traders would generally avoid the situation.

And what would encourage you?

Knowing that not only the in-game crime and punishment system worked as it 'should'(tm), but that all the players wanting to experience a life of crime were able to do so in-character (not all captain pugwashes off course!) that did not break game immersion or game narrative and never used cheesy tactics (like orca ramming, letter box/landing pad camping and all the other MMO type anti-social, anti-game trolling) but actually used their skills and talents to make Open ED feel more like a believable Elite game world and less like a troll the newbies for the lolz situation. Granted it is hard to play that role, especially when the game gives you zero incentive to do so......hmm maybe do it for the honour of helping create a great game experience we could all play together? That WOULD be novel in an MMO.

Having said that, and having plenty of on-line game experience (even a little MMO via World of Warcraft back in the day), i won't hold my breath over this possible evolution as to be frank the kind of personality/personal growth this requires is far beyond the majority sadly (age plays a part in this also). A crime and punishment system could encourage the change, but well like i said most would leave to other MMO's where the anti-social behaviour is 100% part of the game and the dopamine hit instant.

Trying to craft a believable sim (as Elite has long striven to do i would say) in an MMO type framework, where typical MMO players are used to a certain format (of exploits to boost griefing etc) and get them to change their behaviour to fit in with crafting that believable sim is hard, nearly impossible perhaps. It's why i gave up on MMO's in the early stages of WoW as it just did not offer me the depth of game experience i was looking for. Luckily ED has Solo mode so i don't need to play it as an MMO which would ruin it for me (as it currently stands).

Given the main things wont change, what i would like is the option to restrict landing on my carrier to open only.

I dont often use it for trade as i dont need credits, but i did so to help out at the Colonia bridge CG. I was very disappointed to see all my stocks vanishing but seeing absolutely no commanders actually landing on my carrier, so i assume they were all in solo. (And no, i was not intending to attack anyone. I was sitting there in a Dolphin to make that absolutely clear to anyone who showed up)

Due to this experience, i will not be doing that again, unless i can enforce open only usage.

And i just mean it should be a setting available to each carrier owner. Not telling other people what to do with theirs.
