Ships Today I Get My Vette!

So today I will become a proud owner of a Federal Corvette! I'm 92% through Post Captain, and I know I'll be able to grind that last bit of Fed XP.

So, any tips for a first time Vette owner? I know it has a very low jump range, but what are its other weaknesses? Any tips for outfitting? How is the hardpoint placement?

Rule #1: Don't fly without rebuy. ;)

(congratulations - I've not yet reached sufficient rank for the Corvette - I do have a Gunship though - and a Cutter.... :) )

I will get one tomorow, see you in space CMDR :). Luckly it has same belly as Anaconda so I will simply strip down my combat Anaconda and fit it to Corvette

It is superior to the Anaconda in most aspects apart from jumprange, and the large hardpoint placement is problematic. So my advice is to avoid gimballed on the large hardpoint, either use a turret or fixed weapon, having a fixed option is nice when enemies start chaffing, something like a PA or APA if you pledge to Patreus for 4 weeks works great, fixed beam is another option. The 2 huge hardpoints are also good for fixed weaponry, likely we won't see another ship with better hardpoint placement for the size either.

Weakness and Corvette do not belong in the same sentence. You can mod the jump drive to compensate for the short range. For starting out I would run Kinetic Huge and pulse on M and smalls until you can A rate the core internals then switch it. 2 H G Beams with all MCs, you'll burn shields and pop smaller craft very quickly.

Congrats^^ got mine a few days ago
Came from a Python and LOVE it; its so damn maneuverable and has a huge fire power
Im running mine with all beams and C4 MCs, cracks every ship so far (small s just go 'pop')
The only downsides so far are its speed and jump range, which are both rather low. I you plan to engineer it (which is what im currently doing) think about buying an ASP ex for the long travels and then buy her a taxi

My try for the large underbelly hardpoint is a gimballed double-shot frag cannon. Slightly lift the nose when the odd Anaconda with her shields down is starting diving under you ... :D

Lucky you, I'm 67% Lt. Commander only. :)
I'm aiming to get Rear Admiral by end of November - and I think I'll have at least 500 million on my account by then, so I won't need to strip much from the Anaconda and/or Beluga.

Park it until you can afford to A-rate everything as the Corvette is a big, slow-moving target. If it cannot absorb punishment it will take you quickly to the rebuy screen. That being said it is a great ship for PvE. For PvP not so much. Not such a great multi-purpose either I mean, it will do it (makes a great miner) but better off fitting for combat IMO. Aside from two giant beam lasers on top (modified for "efficient") it is basically CMDRs choice what to do with the rest of the hard-points. Ask a hundred CMDRs, you will get a hundred different opinions. I like turreted weapons wherever possible since she turns so sloooooowly. Turns like an Anaconda, jumps like a Python. o7

Definitly not
Coming from a A-Python I went to a C-Corvette the last days and it was more then equivalent in terms of strength.
You dont need an A-Corvette; A-Power Supply, D-Power Plant, B-Thusters, 2xB-Shield Cells and weapons all Pulse is EVERYTHING you need to get started and beat the sh*t out a RES
Some people dont understand that other people dont make 10 million per day, for me it would have been a whole month more to wait which definitely was not necessary.

I must be getting old, I originally thought the title read "Today I Get My Vettel". I was wondering what you were going to do with Sebastian Vettel in Elite Dangerous.... ;)

Meet my "Nebuchadnezzar" (remeber Matrix?), I get it yesterday and now I get it why everyone loves it! It is way better than Anaconda. 2 huge lasers and all multicannons. :)

Thank you to everyone for the congratulations and the outfitting tips!

I'll be honest, my first couple excursions didn't really go as planned, lol. I got chewed up at a compromised nav beacon, so i decided to head back to Jameson and refit. I went with two gimbaled C4 beams, and fit the rest with turreted multi cannons. I like it, but honestly I'm not yet quite satisfied with it. I tried to cut some corners to save money, but i think in the end I'll have to invest much more heavily in this beast to really unleash it :)

Tried reversing that loadout yet? Thermals (lasers) on the small, medium and large and use kinetics on the huge, like MC. Bit of engineering on the lasers to reduce distributor draw which leaves more room for pips in SYS and ENG for longer periods. Might help letting you stay in the fight longer. Against smaller craft you shouldn't need to even fire the huge MCs, saves ammo for the big ships.

Should i keep the small and mediums turrets or go gimbal?

I recently changed my loadout to huge MCs up top and turreted burst lasers (long range) everywhere else. The lasers strip shields (and kill smaller targets) and the huge MCs do a serious number on medium and large ships. I can stay an hour or two in a haz res or CNB killing everything I can catch, but then I need a break.

Mine is configured with cabins, cargo holds, and a SRV. 20Ly jump range and a 7A fuel scoop allows me to go anywhere in the bubble and have even done short exploring jaunts in him. Lately I've been spending most of my time in him and just do whatever comes to mind.

Enjoy your new vette. :)
