Trackir 5 oh yes why did i wait so long

OK people i just got a trackir 5 this afternoon install was a snap had it up and running in about 10 min.

got in game ( lol tutorial first) it worked perfect so in 2 min i was in game :)

takes about a hour to start to get use to it ( i am still hitting the buttons on my JS to center my view and stuff like that)

but in just an hour or 2 of play it is amazing :) it is like sitting in the cockpit of the ship you simply look at the menus you need make a selection and then look back to whatever you were doing, navigation adn other menu options are now smooth and easy and you can look away if you need to , following a ship in combat is incredibly easy.

i have no idea why i waited so long to get this, should have bought it back in alpha :)

Enjoy! I picked one up during Premium Beta, and had been meaning to get a TrackIR for years. Elite was the game that finally made me pull the trigger on it.
It simply adds so much to Elite, and pretty much any flight or fps game that supports it.

Happy tracking! :D

Uh oh, theres no going back now!!!
Once you get used to it its VERY hard to play without it.
My trackir sensor mount is broken and I didnt hesitate to crazy glue that bad boy to the top of my monitor.
Grats on the purchase

I use one and a while back I was at a friend's place teaching him some ED basics and he does not have a TrackIR. It was quite funny, I kept looking left and right to bring up panels and it never worked, hehe. I tried to stop doing it but it was like I had some sort of nervous twitch or affliction. And lets not even talk about dogfights without one hehe.
Got home, fired Up ED looked left and right and the panels popped up again...aah the universe was back in balance.
Now I have gone oculus and its the next level up again (don't use it all the time as I sometimes get nauseous and the res too low). Better off with TrackIR for those long sessions

A cheap and efficient head tracking solution is a PS3Eye (up to 120 fps) + IR emitter (homemade or the affordable DelanClip) + OpenTrack.
It's what I use and it cost me about 15€ (homemade 3 points IR emitter).

Without it I'm just like that guy:

;)

Not saying Trackir isn't nifty but if you're going to spend that...why not spend a little more and get an Occulus Rift and get the completely immersive experience? Ehh...ehhh?

I was wondering why it took you so long to get a TrackIR too. :D

Lovely init?

Ps. Voice Attack is a perfet way to both toggle TrackIR on and off (for station menu for example) and to reset view. I can't imagine playing ED without both now.

Because OR is more than twice the cost. It also isn't always convenient to use (because it isolates you from your environment). Will definately have one to go with my Ir5 by Xmas 2015 though :)

This was my thinking. It is going to cost me about £200 to get the Track IR why not spend the £400 for the Rift instead when the retail kit it released latter this year?

A probably silly question from me. How sensitiv is it? Would I have to turn my head much or just a bit to either side to pop up the panels?
Edit: It is about the TrackIR

You can set it up so that your nose moves 1cm and in the game, your charaters head spins around 13 times ;)

There are adjustable curves for advanced use, which you can use to create "dead zones" to elite panels, so that it will stick to menus a bit. Not to forget precision mode which you can toggle on and off.

If you are this far in to thinking let me tell you I have been there myself. Go ahead and do it. And don't believe the crap you hear from ProClip, if you use it like a normal human it won't break easy.

Like the X52 pro, demand and supply varies. Keep watching prices and you will be able to get one for about 160 quid.

I got TrackIR first because I have pre-teen kids and will not always be able to shut myself off with an OR. The make-you-jump factor would be too much for them to resist. :)

Yes trackir and voice attack, a different world.... :)

And of course Occulus Rift when the retail version comes out and I can actually afford the uberpc I will need to run it well.
