Hi Eventure
This situation may have been discussed before but I am very surprised at the effect TCE is having on my framerate and wondered if other people are experiencing similar.
Without TCE running at all my PC easily manages to keep 60 frames per second with Elite Dangerous Horizons in ALL situations as measured by MSI Afterburner with RivaTuner. I lock Elite to a maximum 60 fps and I know it would run higher fps if I let it due to my PC specs.
With TCE running my framerate in all areas of Elite drops to between 20 and 30 fps. I have never seen it go above 30 fps which it manages to attain when flying between star systems in witch space and down to around 20-25 fps when in supercruise within a system. When docked at a planetary station it keeps a steady 25 fps, no higher and no lower. Closing TCE while running Elite, my framerate goes back up to 60 fps no problems.
So I am somewhat surprised TCE drops my framerate by at least half and sometimes by two-thirds. Even when docked in a station with TCE not doing anything as far as I know, I only get 25 fps, no more.
Now I have a new and pretty high spec PC I built myself and I run Elite with all settings on Ultra with EDFX and ReShader graphics enhancements. I don't run other programs when Elite is running.
My Specs: Win7, Ryzen 7 1700 cpu, 16 GB RAM, GTX 1080ti.
So I am really very surprised TCE drops my framerate by so much. I can understand it uses a fair bit of cpu but I don't understand why it should drop the framerate so much with a GTX 1080ti which is a very powerful graphics card that barely gets warm when running Elite. Yes, I do think I have a large TCE database, with the DB folder of TCE clocking in at 800 MB and it does take quite a few minutes to load initially(!) but I don't see why that would cause a big framerate hit when simply docked at a station with no perceived TCE activity. Of course I am guessing here. When I am using TCE to find trade routes or best cargoes, it always reacts extremely quickly and is never sluggish there, but it can get a little bit behind with its "fly-in" messages if I dock, reload and exit a station very quickly without pausing.
Do you have any ideas or suggestions as to what may be going on with the big framerate hit? I would also be very interested to hear what other users are experiencing. If you would like further information, please let me know.
Thanks, Rob
