Travel Methods

Well, they better start listening, cause people are learning to vote with their wallet.
Like many things, enough people have to care to get their attention. And then they actually have to vote with their wallet. We can't seem to do that IRL on things that actually matter to us, so I'm not sure they will about a game.

I'm expected to travel 22k light years to Colonia for engineers. But my options are either a super long boring flight there in a stripped-down exploration build. Or trading all of my agency and independence and free-will as a player, and boarding some rando's Fleet Carrier who could then do god-knows what.

Yeah, travel options in this game are the pants honestly.
I've flown 2 fully equipped Corvettes and a similar Cutter to Colonia (and 1 of the 'vettes back again in pre-FC days!) with around 8 hours of actual flying (ignoring the explore along the way) each time... Preferred flying the 'vettes though :)
In a stripped down DBX / Conda etc. it can all be done in around 4 hours... (Neutron Highway, of course)

I'd much rather make those no-exploration trips in longer hops. They should definitely take a long time to do, but not require so much repetition.

Just curious but how many hours round trip do you estimate your FC' 's take?

You got my vote for endurance, what kind of coffee were you using ?

I di it in 2 sessions - but the actual travel time was probably nearer 12 hours each way as I can't resist some star classes if they are nearby...
Likewise I've been to Beagle Point in a fully equipped Krait II as well, so not particularly bothered by transit times as I'm engaged with the journey (and enjoying the flight) along the way.

I don't have a dog in the debate as travel times are absolutely fine in my opinion, but I wouldn't force my preference on someone else.

So it takes Longer!?!? 😳😳
It is the cooldown & waiting - in the time it takes a FC to jump 500LY, a stripped explorer could have done double or more. Even the 'vette could probably match a FC when leaving the bubble region and then make double time once on the NH.
The convenience of the FC is that the entire fleet can be carried, if one considers jumping 28 ships out that way - that is when it wins!

The debate isn't about travel times. It's about the repetitive nature of the way jumps work right now. I believe the travel times are just fine the way they are. Same amount of time, fewer jumps.

I'm on a FC now, going to Colonia, they estimate 2-3 days,
maybe a couple of short stops on the way.
But Hey I'm here, doing something, while I wait to arrive. (Point made)
That is why I gave the transit time - I normally split it into 2 trips, stopping at the Guardian site on the way out and back.

I still don't have a dog in it - I'm quite happy to jump then look around, then jump again, approaching a million LY travelled on my main account, half of that done before I got the Guardian Booster I think, then squadron stuff slowed me down for nearly a year.

That's cool. I just hope to avoid the conversation shifting away from the topic. People come in mid-conversation and think the thread is one thing when it was originally something else.

The transfer of a ship over this distance is around 60-65 hours - so this is a pretty good trade off imo for an offline travel version. The cost of it is in the million credit range as well, which is decent for a convenient feature. i would really like to see this implemented - but I personally have no problem with a few days being offline from the game. Playing a couple of games and 2 MMOs in parallel - well corona, can't leave the state without a 14-day-quarantine when returning home.

I didn't intend to go too far off-topic, I've been reading it through with interest and had no wish to come argue the toss here :) It is a good debate and I've been enjoying it.

I could get on board with this as an additional option to streamlining. I also do agree that there should be a pretty steep cost for anything that allows you to do something while not logged into the game, as you're not having to put in any time or effort to get yourself there.

it is no special cost factor - it is just what is demanded when you transfer a ship from the bubble to colonia or the other way round - just like it currently is.
