Hardware & Technical Triple monitor advice.

im thinking of buying 2 extra g-sync monitors, but is it worth only for elite? is it problems setting up?
im a total noob when it comes to more than one monitor and gaming..

so triple 2560x1440.

I have three, but admit, I don't use them often for surround playing Elite. But it is cool, especially if paired up with a head movement tracker, like EDTracker.

What is really useful I find when playing Elite is to have it running on the central monitor, and then use the other monitor(s) for the other essentials for playing the game - Web browing to useful sites, watching other twitch streamers, EDDiscovery, OBS, Teamspeak, Skype etc.

3 monitors of that resolution is a lot of pixels! More than 4k. So check if your GPU is up to it first.

Maybe also consider getting a single ultra-wide monitor instead. There's plenty of 34" 3440x1440p models now, some with G-sync and the other one. I like this approach as no borders to get in the way. Does make Windows desktop use a bit different though. You can still keep the old monitor connected for secondary activities like robbyp mentions.

Get a curved super-wide instead. It's awesome.

I went from 3x 27" Dell Ultra sharps back to a single 'Large 40" Phillips' Monitor. Much prefer the single large monitor. The 2 side monitors seem to 'Magnify' the screen image giving an unrealistic feel about it. You also have to play with the FOV setting quite a bit........

It's a personal thing really, maybe i did not give ED a real chance in 3 monitors, but for me i feel more immersed in a single LARGE monitor

I have an Titan x with 12gigs of vram, and thinking of buying a second one.

I love my 3 monitor set up but my tech is only at the mid/high graphic settings but I love it
Think it's just a matter of personal taste but I'm so glad I did it ;)

Fine, get 3 Ultra-wides :) It does look a bit ridiculous with the edge stretching though.

In all seriousness, it does depend on the experience you want. If you think you want 3 monitors wide, go for it. I did experiment with a single 4k 39" TV before, and to me that looked nice when set to a large FoV. The idea being the pixel density of the "interesting" part of the image is comparable to a regular monitor, but you gain peripheral vision both sideways and vertically. Also makes Windows desktop use rather interesting.

Back to your original question about 3 monitor setup, about the only thing you need to do is make sure you have the right connections available to go from the GPU to each monitor. Also it helps to make sure you buy exactly the same model so they match in appearance, both physically and on screen.

As a final idea, check out... https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=140668 and other posts by tzahry with more pics of that setup.

Forget games I couldn't function without 3 screens for general computing use. When I get on a friend's PC with only one monitor, it's like how do you even do anything?

I might end up playing Elite on an Oculus Rift but I will still need 3 screens for day to day use.

The main reason for extra monitors will be playing elite on 3. For the extra stuff on the side i allready use my laptop.

I run tripleheaded religiously - couldn't live without it (and TrackIR). I've been considering UltraWide, but I'd want to run 3 of them and my 980 won't do it.

For the OP - it's simples. Not sure which ports you have on your Titan, but provided you have the native ports on the monitors (I had to do one DP <> DVI), it'll be fine. Although don't mix HDMI with other types (DP/HDMI) as that can cause issues.

Then run the Nvidia tool, enable surround, and off you go. You'll need to adjust the FOV up a bit most likely.

One point to note - the Galaxy Map implementation on tripleheaded is a pain - the left hand menu window is positioned under the bezel. If you're going to use bezel management, that can cause a problem as you can't see to type in the search box or see the data in that window, so I usually run with bezel management off when playing ED - it's no biggy as most of the cockpits don't have structure crossing the bezel same as you'd get in a flight sim. But it is worth noting. I've raised bug reports for the map view previously, but so far nothing from FD as regards getting it fixed :(

The Nvidia surround desktop management is also pretty nice, you can get your Task bar on just the central one, and windows maximise to individual monitors rather than the full span - the exception being video which goes "full screen". If you need more control, check out Display Fusion (3rd party app). I used DF to get around some limitations of ATI/AMD's eyefinity before I went to Nvidia, but Nvidia has been far easier to configure/use.

Ahh, I used to do that, but its more handy to have them running on the same PC for my setup. EDDiscovery, my tracking excel spreadsheet, etc, so I can cut/paste into the game.
