Two extremes of open PvP

Well I would be happy to organise a training session for you and all the guys who have asked questions on this thread. You will be amazed how much you can learn in a 2-3 hour session.

Please let me know who is interested and what timezone you are. You can PM me if you preffer. Discord or TS communication would be prefferable.

Thanks! I'm up for that, haven't used discord in a while but I can fire it up... I'm in North America eastern timezone, which is 4 or 5 hours behind game time depending on dalylight savings (ie right now 04:00 in game is midnight for me). I typically play on weeknights from 01:00-05:00 game time, somewhat more sporadic on the weekends.

But IIRC even in silent running, if you shoot someone they can target you. (Although gimbals won't work, not sure about missiles).

Gimbals still work against silent runners, though tracking is reduced.

Of course, with emissive being near omnipresent silent running is mostly a waste of time against reasonably well prepared CMDRs...at least after the first shots are fired.

Thanks for clarifying this Morbad. Maybe it is because I fly a very cold DBS with low signature radius that gimbals have trouble tracking me. Medium silent ships would likely be tracked a lot more with gimbals as you have explained.

Surprisingly I have found less emissive ammo opponents than I was anticipating. Even among PvP groups I have just seen it on the odd occasion. It is perhaps that I am seen as an "insignificant " target in wing fights and they just don't bother with me. In 1v1 by the time I launch torps and become visible my job is mostly done. They always tend to go for the inevitable ram before they realise what they are up against. By then its panic mode and my surprise has served its purpose. Anyway I am having fun in my "retro" ship. Isn't the increased thermal load a bother? Or does it not end up mattering much when applied to just one MC?

I've got one corrosive MC, maybe I should make the other one emissive next time I've got some MEF lying around to burn.

Many feel that silent running is dead and emissive is the answer. I feel like swimming against the tide but I never liked meta play. Here is my answer to emissive. Enjoy ;)

I've never found it to be an issue, probably because I never run more than one emissive weapon and try to keep it on the smallest practical hardpoint.

The thing is that once something goes extinct, they stop vaccinating against it, and it can sneak back in.

Stealth is probably due for a comeback as almost none of this new influx of CMDRs have ever had to deal with it and even the veterans have started to stop taking measures to counter it.
