Type 6 - To boldly go

Mossfoot, I'm about 5 jumps away from you! :)
I'm parked up at the beginning of the column of stars of NGC 6231. I'll be starting on surveying all 35 stars tomorrow.

I did my first expedition in a T6 and never had a particular problem with overheating (A rated plant, FSD and distro). 13,500ly round trip into Cygnus and only a small amount of hull damage from being careless.

Heh, maybe I'll see you about tonight ;) Though I am leaving the cluster first thing (well maybe I'll stop at one or two blues first)

Well met, Ripster! Fellow Bowman piloting a Flying Brick over here on walkabout. I have to admit I didn't get my Brick up to 30LY, just 28.17 on a full tank. But that's in part because I kept certain other features in at A level instead of D for one reason or another. Still, no complaints. Was locked onto V1292 Scorpii, but having reached it yesterday I'm just going to generally follow the arm I'm in widdershins until we're closer to 1.2 release. Then maybe visit Saga on my way back.

Maybe I'll see you out in Big Sky Country :)

(for translation see https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=116536&p=1809874 ;) )

Hope to cross wakes with you Mossfoot:)

Fly safe and feel the love for the T6 Flying brick

Indeed. There is something "pure" about exploring in a ship that isn't meant to double at all for combat. I have the two Class 5 Bays empty (well, technically cargo holds) which in character I've assigned as an entertainment center and a gym to help with this long solo trip ;)

I've got a similar setup with my T6, although I stuck with the D2 life support, those extra minutes of air don't mean much when you're a long long way from any hope of rescue....
BTW, have you really only got 5k CR left in the bank? What about insurance? That's a lot of ship to risk without it....

What's life without risk? ;) Hell, I play with more at stake than just insurance (see below)

Actually, I ended up making a million in rares by the time I reached the Last Homely House (whatever the last station is you reach before hitting the Twilight Zone... er... sorry, more of my slang, see link ;) ). But I used that to upgrade from Intermediate to Advanced Discovery.

If I die before getting back I'll no doubt have to downgrade many things to fall within the 200K loan limit. I only have 50K on me right now.

The reason for the life support has to do with the variation on Ironman that I play: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=107694 Basically having an A class LS gives a +1 chance of rescue out there. And the Advanced Discovery Scanner gives +3. I'll take whatever edge I can get.

Mossfoot that is a really nice little explorer ship you've got.
If you only allow me to point out the A grade life support. Are you sure you want to have twenty more minutes to contemplate on what went wrong, 20.000Ly from home? :p
Instead of that I would choose a class 5 fuel scoop, considering how flammable T6 is, it could make the trip a bit safer.

I usually go for D distributor, too, but as T6's only defense is boosting out of fire, to keep the A is completely justified.

Safe travels, fellow explorers!

Also I noticed OP is deliberately avoiding "known" places and nebulae. I like to visit them on my journeys (at least those within 10.000Ly from home space, solely because of the probability to meet another explorer. You don't really need to worry anyone would carry interdictor with them, I guess, and it's nice to talk. Other than that, I completely agree on your endeavours to keep it to the less interesting places, because, to my experience, they tend to be more interesting in the end. I was able, for instance to find an awesome "stellar nursery" with almost two dozens of T Tauri stars. :)

Well I explained my in-game reason for it (the pilot ejection table). The rationale being that once you eject your seat sends off a distress beacon to help increase the odds of being found. So the better your life support, the better your ejection seat, the more effective your beacon. Likewise when a ship blows, the last thing a Discovery Scanner does is overcharge and send out a single massive "pulse" that will alert search and rescue that a ship went down in a certain region (but no specific location), and so the better your scanner, the more powerful the pulse (so more of a bonus). Of course, that's only effective when away from inhabited space, given the vast number of ships being shot down and blowed up in the populated areas ;)

Instead of that I would choose a class 5 fuel scoop, considering how flammable T6 is, it could make the trip a bit safer.

Was tempted, but the B4 scoops plenty fast (nearly 300/sec). 95% of the time I'm full before I've finished my Discovery Scanner pulse and checking the system map to see if there's anything worth going into detail with.

I usually go for D distributor, too, but as T6's only defense is boosting out of fire, to keep the A is completely justified.

My thinking as well. :)

The Type-6 is for some weird reason my favourite ship to fly. I love the reverse thrusters firing when you are trying to slow down and it just feel big and cumbersome. Once I've earned some more coin I plan on exploring with my Type 6. Combat, well lets say that I will need more money again before I try a bounty hunting career in the 6 however how awesome would that be? You earned this bounty .... in that?

What a piece of junk!
She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts!

When I get back from a explorer's trial run in the "Roamer" (retrofitted Cobra) to the California nebula, I'm buying myself a T6 for sure, christening it "The Tap", retrofitting it so me and the band can bring classic rock to the stars... Although there may be plenty of mishaps, it'll probably go to 11! :)

Tnx all for helping me decide on trying it!

lol mossfoot

Your cargo bays set aside for useless entertainment ...
We should meet up = i had a stupid individual thought along the same line but thought i wouldn't share...

One of my cargo spaces is a HUUUUGEEE BED with mirrors floor to ceiling... the weight wassss horrible but i sort of liked the idea of deep space ...... well you know.....

and i dare not tell you what the set up of my second cargo bay is.............................

Useless? Alone in space with just me and my cat? I need to do something not to go crazy staring into the abyss ;)

It's just a game... calm down... it's just a game... ;)

Heh, I WOULD have a rumpus room except... well... story wise there is a certain problem I have that would make that... let's just say difficult. (click my licence if you like amusing elite based fiction... don't worry I'm a writer/editor by trade so I don't suck ;) )

I am currently 5,400LY out. I have made slow progress of late as I have come across a glut of watery worlds, which all of course needed scanning. If alien life comes from this part of the galaxy then I guess mans first encounter will be with something that's wet and smells fishy!

A quick update on the "old girls" status - hull still 68%, canopy still as pristine as the day she shipped and so far no problems with any of the systems (touch cheap plastic interior). Still nothing on my contact scanner and still no commander first found discovery systems encountered.

I am currently crossing a part of the galaxy whose systems are tagged as HYPOU, it seems never ending, I am now starting to wish for a change of scenery and am keen to push on past the HYPOU systems and so may ditch the scanning for a short while, but I'll sleep on it and make a call tomorrow.

Well that's about it for today, wishing all the other explorers a safe day in the darkness and much luck. :)

It's still dark out here and I am still very much alone....

Hiya folks

you are not on your own. I am on my 5th week out now (went out before the last patch) - hauler on 98% hull - just over 5k out and done lots and lots of scanning else I would be much further. Also found 4 water worlds in the same system last night

been following some of the explorer threads on here .. great reading. Cant even explain to people that dont play .... they think i'm mad, and the ones that do think the same lol

just dropping in to say hi ;)

I couldn't agree more, the madder the better :)

They say pictures paint a thousand words :)

Here is little old me in Blue and there is SOL in yellow for a point of reference.
