UA Mystery Thread 3: The Canonn

Home System:
After reading the FD posting about this, we would become controlling faction of the system. This unfortunately probably rules out the Permit systems. FD are not going to hand that over to a new faction, and we would have no stations outside the system, so nobody could gain the permit until we expanded. I would love Peregrina but Not going to happen.

Min/Maxing and going for a "best" system would be : Hi Tech, Large Station close to star, Outpost with Black Market, Metalic Rings, Major Res, Not in PP
For Canonn Flavour : Sci Outpost, MR and other airless worlds, Some association with UA or Thargoids, Near(ish) Pleidaes/Polaris

IMHO, it might be a mistake to focus on the Min/Max criteria. Any really juicy system will have a big footfall. We are never likely to be a force to be reckoned with, and may end up loosing the system, or having to spend our time fighting for control against traders, pirates or other reprobate groups after a Hi Tech of their own.

However, after a reasonable amount of research, I found NGANJI. All of the above criteria except : Rings are only Metal Rich , RES is only Medium, PP LiYoind (probably the best choice of Powers), No association with UA/Thargoids that I know of. That is a pretty darned good match. It has a foot fall of 199 ships in the last 24 hours, I dont know if that is good or bad, but half of those are Conda/T9 (could just be a couple of repeat traders)

I put forward Nganji for your consideration, but would be perfectly happy with Timocani or some other crap-hole that suits the ethos of Canonn.

My thinking is we should go either for a system in the Pleiades as that's where the floaters are to be found and it's far far away from PP b*llsh*t, or near Alioth because lore and Thargoids.

The system must be inhabited: that's why I suggested 64 Arietis -> it's the nearest inhabited system to Pleiades, it has a nice station, there are a few HH RES, and the outfitting is well furnished ;)

Apologies to Mobile readers. Here are screenies of NGanji and its PoI for those without access to the client today.
As mentioned before, it has a couple of Res, but no High Res. No Ammonia or terraform worlds, but one of the Jovians has Ammonia Life. One of the outposts is Scientific

Doesn't need to be inhabited. I want funds a Coriolis starport when they get us a system. But I wanna some hi-res close to the station for when i'm borred. ;)

It has to be inhabited as per the FAQ on FD's thread about new player factions. But maybe you can fund more stations :)

Have you all considered that it may not be the Thargoids we are trying to set ourselves up for? That the Plaides may play a role now but not in the near distant future.

I couldn't agree more. The key to my mind is having as many boxes ticked as possible, and is why I proposed Kotaition (and why I feel Lugungi and Nganji are also strong candidates). It's not about what we're doing now, but about what we might find ourselves doing in two years time. We need in-system 'stuff' to keep us entertained, fueled with options and generally able to beg up Canonn-based CGs as we go forward.
The thing is, the Canonn will become - quite quickly - less about the UAs than the Next Thing, even concurrent Next Things and I would prefer to be 'based' in a system that is either already stocked with stuff to do when I want a break or close by other systems that will round out the resources we don't have. It's just not going to be any Fun, for example, lugging the tonnage to build a Scientific Surface Compound (or whatever) for a future CG we push for if the system is way out in the boondocks.

I still like this one. +1 (virtual).

Agreed. These are very important factors to be considered.

You make a good point.
