UA Mystery Thread 3: The Canonn

Any thoughts?

If it's a probe then it makes sense it's looking for something and the fact it's not parked outside Sol indicates (to me) it's not looking for us. (We've been transmitting anything n everything into space for years so finding us shouldn't be hard)

The problem I have is time. I've spent so much time in a system known to have UA and I've found nothing. To prove the theory we would have to camp out in other systems/regions searching. That search will need to be quite an extended search to rule out non spawns of UA. The other approach, I.e. Head to those specific systems and search those might yield UA but not because of the system makeup.

I'm not against trying it, I just worry that I'm the time it takes to explore that possibility properly might be a little disproportiate

Likewise. I don't disagree with the possibility that this is a valid observation, however.:
1. Very small sample size, could easily be coincidental
2. As an Explorer, I know how frequently the description, the classification and real world physics disagree (a lot)
3. UA availability is still extremely low, it would take some brave scientists to put in upto 500 hours to be sure of just 1 system

I see your concern and while we are no more wiser today than yesterday per se this does open up the possibility that maybe some places should be looked at first rather than take a completely random approach. What I have in my hands here is the observation that these "types" of planets do appear in systems that have had confirmed floating UAs. By that token if I went off into deep space looking for more UAs I'd jump scan and if I see something that sort of matches my description I'll spend a little more time there than elsewhere. This really shouldn't be any more or less involved than the current exploratory approach to finding UAs.

What I am asking help with is finding screenshots of the systems with confirmed floating UAs because I couldn't quickly locate those systems. That will tell me if the faux Class III planet approach should be taken seriously or if it is another coincidence.

The Elite Wiki has a list of where free floating UA have been found, I've copied the info into the UA01 sheet of my UA Diary (link in sig). That might help.

@Eagle5 - Can't rep your '4/4 Class III'-ness at the moment. Would. I'm finding it a compelling notion.

Thank you kind sir... if this is right there won't be enough tinfoil to go around.

Screenies, I am sure we can rustle up. Currently afk unfortunately

Thanks for the help that's all I'm looking for since soon(tm) I'll be mainly AFK for a while... (getting married)

Congratulations and good luck on your big day :)

Also good work on the gas Giant observations. I will keep it in mind.

I'll be online in moments: I'm almost sure I've scanned every system where floaters were found. I'll let you know shortly ;)

Thanks everyone big day is in a couple of weeks and I'll be moving into my first house so everything is coming at me like an asteroid belt at speed.

To sum things up a bit I've been on the lookout for oddities and anomalies and so far the Pleiades has been the place to find them. I started out with the airless water world, then progressed to the Earth sized Class IV "Gas Giant" (which is physically impossible) now these potentially "fake" Class III Planets.

All this leads me to believe there are a couple of possibilities... Either A. someone or something has the ability to mask the appearance of a planet which in itself is a technological wonder or B. someone actually has the ability to alter the makeup of planets which is even more incredible then point A. This may sound a bit out there but... humans in 3300 are quite comfortable with terraforming so in the spirit of the "lore" that isn't so impossible.

Question is how does the UA factor in this? That I have no idea.. It could be very well a sort of "genesis device" that starts the change process in point B... or it may be a " Detector" that someone may have sent out to properly indicate a place that is being masked (point A). I'm sure there are virtually hundreds of explanations but the observations for now still stand.

There is of course always the possibility that the Pleiades are a glitch in the matrix and that FD hasn't gotten around fixing the stellarforge issues. I really hope this isn't the case and that we'll make something out of all this great stuff either way... I'll be out there looking so stop by and say hi.
