So, are there UAs availlable for inversive testing? If yes, what us it going to cost me? If no, please at least answer my questions.

Or take it there to Alioth, specifically to Wicca and check the Bulletin Boards and Contacts also :)

...And then sell it! If the thing is of Thargoid origin, it will trigger something on FD's part. I mean the guys helped the Thargoids and were offered a Thargoid ship (I think). We've been told to know a bit about the lore and not to overthink. Selling stuff is the best way to trigger something, as we've seen with the Titan Black game. Maybe a Galnet article will appear, about scientists from the Alliance getting interested in the Artefact. I dunno.

We've got a few UAs right now, we know where more UAs can be encountered, so why not sell one there?

Selling mine there if I ever find one again!

These are the continuing voyages of the good ship Maiden Ty-1. To seek out existing regions, to find and discover strong signal sources, to boldly go where quite a lot of people have gone before!

So on my second day I managed to get to the California nebula. Never been before, I tend to avoid the usual tourist spots. Very purty. I then did some research on the nebula and it turns out it is illuminated by a blue giant called Menkib. Tenuous link but I’d never been to a blue giant before so off I went. Again, lovely view.

Now, did I spot any signal sources? Well, no. Didn’t really expect to, I was more just examining the California nebula angle. Would’ve been nice though.

So I set off back toward the bubble. I’ll be attempting to try differing regions around Sol at about 300 ly distance. Obviously won’t have time to do a complete scan before 1.4 drops but I may drop on something.

Good hunting all

I always thought 'dark matter' was considered matter that did not reflect or produce light...not an unkown type of matter...just not visible.

You're right. But all known matter interacts via the electroweak force and dark matter doesn't seem to. Therefore it's an unknown type of matter.

what's inversive testing?

Destroy it with a plasma accelerator.

Please read my post some pages back to know my idea behind that.
Maybe the reason for not making any progress is the fear of losing a UA.
I can't offer 200Mcr for that but name your price and I see what I can do.

May I suggest 64 Arietis? It's the System that I use as Home Base to Pleiades right now, and it is the nearest System to them, together with Nauni (second choice).
It's exactly "on the border" as The Canonn should always be ;)

It has a nice Station, and a few High RES nearby.

BACK TO THE UA:

I passed the last ED night scanning the three Pleiades Systems where floating UAs have been found, HR 1172, HR 1185, Pleiades Sector IR-W D1-34.
I've definitely discarded the B Star type, as a common thing between them, as the latter does not have a B star.

Then just only one common thing remains:
These three systems have a ridiculous high amount of High Metal Content Planets and most of all, the most rare Metal Rich Planet: lots and lots of them!
Pleiades Sector IR-W D1-34 has even two of them orbiting each other.

So, IMHO, whatever the UA are, and whoever built them, THEY are deeply looking for METALS...

EDIT:
Ah, I forgot: Metal Rich Planets are supposed to have very strong magnetic fields.
If, as someone suggested, the UA is reacting to magnetic fields, we should look at it and its cloud's behaviors, close to one of those planets...

EDIT 2:
Regarding magnetic fields again: we should listen at the Purrs while our ship is moving. We usually do tests with our ship frozenly stopped!
If the UA reacts to magnetic fields, a moving one could cause some changes in the cloud and in the Purrs perhaps?
Perhaps it is not doppler effect, what was observed in some occasions (Purr's pitch changing)...

Ah! And bigger ships, bigger magnetic fields...

Sorry have had my head in a book in between working. Needed to finish it!

Very exciting times :D

Like the system choices - and great work on the scanning front.

Can I distill Whisky for the Canonn?

Sorry man, destructive testing on a tenuous theory, not for me.

FWIW we "let off" a UA inside a populated station then had the event published on Galnet, no infection occurred. IMHO the plague theories are dead-ends.

It's not about the money really.

There's an event happening this Sunday to "win" a UA, you could give that go. :)

Just chucking MOND into the mix.

Still requires hidden mass to account for galaxy clusters, and if you need dark matter anyway you're not really any better off. Also I think when you get into the details it's not as elegant as it seems superficially, though I'm no expert. Frankly, all the theories have problems. Will be interesting to see what progress is made.

I understand that.
I also hope that it will not be destoyed, more triggered to a reaction.
No problem. I will find one myself and perform the test. So I hope.

Me too. Is the mechanic broken at the moment? I did a shedload of high rep missions last night and the influence bar in system tab didn't budge at all.

Maybe that's what unlocks or expands in 1.4. "its about to get deeper"

On another note, in all the lore I have read to date the reason the Thargoids where interested in the systems they wanted to inhabit was....... da ta da da...... high metal resource planets.

Looks like we have to register as a group and decide on a Gov, Description, Location and Allegiance
we already have a name and a leader
guess Government is Dictatorship, location is important we need a science station and a blackmarket (start selling UA's to ourselves ) and I assume we are Independent? oh cant forget the Tinfoil Hats

I would say the obvious choices are...
Government: Scientific Commune
Allegiance: Independent

For location, while Timocani and 109 Virginis are both obvious choices I agree that neither is ideal as both:
- are essentially in the middle of PowerPlay,
- lack Scientific Outposts
- have individual drawbacks (only outposts and large distance to station respectively).

Can I suggest the following alternatives (with positives and negatives):

Peregrina
+ Previous site of Thargoid Research Base (from 'Out of Darkness')
+ not one but TWO Scientific Outposts (one for each Janitor!)
+ Black Market on Talos 2
+ Independent System
+ Out of the way from PowerPlay (although Li Yong-Rui is heading that way)
+ Permit requirement keeps out riff-raff
+ Relatively near to Pleiades (should this be important)
- Only outposts (Crown Prospect in Kagutsuchi is probably best option for nearby stations)
- Canonn members would have to get Permit

New Yembo
+ is REALLY out of the way of PowerPlay
+ Unity is Ocellus Station (possibly Orbis now from icon?) for large ships
+ Black Market on Unity
- Did I mention it was REALLY way out there?
- Unity is over 1000 LS from star (although probably not significant if you can be bothered to make your way to New Yembo in the first place)

Personally I'd go for Peregrina as I think it would fit nicely and the permit requirement might be handy, even if that location means having to leave my beloved Imperial Clipper somewhere else until we can build an Ocellus!

[h=2]COLONY SHIP DETECTED[/h] S.L.A.M
Astronomers using Excessively Long Baseline Interferometry (ELBI) to conduct a survey of distant radio sources believe that they may have detected the "Mayflower 97" slower-than-light colony ship, which was launched from orbit around Luna in 2097.
ELBI remains a somewhat inexact science, because receiving stations are placed so far apart that considerations of simultaneity become an issue in interpreting the results, but the patterns received by the Distant Radio Survey group do indeed appear to show radio emissions characteristic of a Bussard ramjet moving with a relativistic velocity of almost 60% of the speed of light. The "Mayflower 97" carried nearly a thousand passengers and crew, plus domestic animals and extensive gene banks to aid in the colonisation of Earth-like worlds which were presumed to exist around nearby stars.
Archaeological evidence suggests that it did indeed successfully reach its first port of call at Tau Ceti, but the fate of both ship and crew thereafter was unknown until now.
The ship's tremendous speed in real space makes it Impractical to attempt a rendezvous, so the "Mayflower" will presumably be left to continue on its way, bearing with it any descendants of its original complement.

Now on a slight side note, interestingly now that we know 1 Voyager is out there does anyone want to hazard a guess on whether this beauty is?
