UA Mystery thread 4 - The Canonn

Is it a free floater you are shooting at?

It is. I've made just under a 5 minute recording of it and it is still making that noise (some kind of tinny buzzing) and it is still making it now. Any recommendations of somewhere to upload and share, can't seem to figure out a way to do that here?

99% is the usual BG noise that is somehow linked to UA health. But you can upload the video on YT, for us to watch.

Thanks for that rizal, I've uploaded it and here is the link. I think the sound might be there before it took the damage, but it is nowhere near as audible if it is.

Ok. That's not the BG noise I was talking about: that's the usual buzzing sound that's been always present in the UA sound, sometimes gets higher, sometimes gets lower. Nothing new btw: it's there since day one, it's just part of the complex sound structure of the UA. Thanks for taking the time to share!

My point isn't that it's new, just that the buzzing becomes louder when it has taken damage. I have tried this on 4 UAs now and I seem to get the same result. I have uploaded another one. This time, the UA is at full health, then just after 3 minutes in you can hear me shooting at it with a mining laser (I took the health down to 49% this time) and the buzzing becomes louder afterwards.

It's exactly what I told you in my first reply: you shoot the UA and the BG noise I know very well, shows up, then, after 20/30 seconds it disappears (at 3:31) and only the buzzing stays.
It's the BG noise, we've talked about few days ago, when I've tried to decode it again. If you scoop the UA, and then deploy it again, you'll ear it until the last monents of the UA life, where it disappears just a few moments before it dies.
It's somehow linked to UA health, but I personally think that's more linked to UA "anger".

Long time ago, when free floaters did not exist, this noise made the morse very hard to decode. Very.

Response to Derthek: Well, as an 85'er-dated 'goid basher & in the fullness of time I have learnt the error of my ways & view the world with (hopefully) a little more wisdom and equanamity; so I say the 'Goids *may* have learnt their lesson & the next time the meeting could go much more peacefully, but I have an insectoid-size trophy rack waiting to fix on my Cobra mkIV if they havent learnt any sense, or want to try probing anything they shouldn't. The choice is up to them! But I do suspect the 'goids may not be the enemy this time round- its a VERY big galaxy & theres plenty of space for other alien aggressors to appear from; given a chance the 'goids may be our allies against other (worse) threats.....
Be a pity to antagonise a potential ally, no matter how many legs/ tentacles/ feelers they might have
:))

Now thats science! Cut bits off/ electric shock/ heat/freeze/etc the test subject until it does something.. Sounds like you need to send a video of that experiment to Riz!

EDIT: Posting from my mob phone while away from my Cobra, dont know why the references to the OPs havent shown, but should have known Riz & the other Canonners would have already applied proper scientific methods to these pesky UAs!

The diversity in the Canonn never fails to impress me :D we have commanders who want to join the Thargoids, live peacefully side by side them, or eradicate them! And yet here we are, still friends. Assuming that our actions during first contact won't really matter in the grand scheme of things, I propose a role-play style event. Using the moons of Merope expedition as an examlle:

- We find an octagonal craft floating above the surface. (Not gunna happen, but for the sake of the scenario just roll with it)

-Those who want to join begin to approach and get closer

- Those who want to live peacefully send morse into open chat comms

- Those who want to fight open fire (I'm assuming this group is primarily filled with people who played the first elite games and have a predisposition to thargoid conflict)

- Those wanting to join the thargies are caught in the cross fire, and begin turning around to open fire on the human aggressors

- the peaceful side-by-side guys call a retreat and leave the field

- the "joiners" and the "fighters" have a shoot out, the"joiners" either die or retreat then the "fighters" attack the goids.

As this plays out the NPCs will likely be firing on any one and every one as they would normally do. The "fighters" either go out in a blaze of glory, or dominate, either way they call reinforcements and more people join the fight. At this point the "joiners" and the "peacers" fly back into the fight and help fight the Thargoids. After the conflict, the remaining "joiners" and the "peacers" put up a galnet inviting thargies to live in Polaris while the "fighters" rally troops (via galnet, aswell) to assault Merope.

This should allow the devs a lot of freedom to use our real first contact ingame as an anchor point for future plot outcomes. It also gives us a fair representation across our groups wide range of beliefs.

Thoughts? :D

Hey Derthek, you avatar is rapidly decaying. You should not leave it that close to an UA.

It's an interesting scenario you post, but it's not the way it will happen.

Here is my take.

Thargoid Ambasador Intrigued By Unknown Artefact

The Thargoid ambasador to Quy, Hive Commander Antnita Stinger is intrgued by the unknown artefact discovered in human space. She says that Thargoids follow the investigations closely and may send a science team to assist human researchers. She ends her statment with the following question: 'Have you tried shooting it with a laser?'.

Man, I want some of what you're drinking(?). I think.

My sound component changes when people shoot things at me too. Both in-game and in RL.

Tullibardine Sovereign tonight - though I'm not in any way inebriated. I thonk. ;)

(Grins, presses fingers together in front of nose, and eagerly awaits this)

I've said it before. And I'm not the only one.

With what little I've learned about the Thargoid 'track' we should be on (thanks Clavain, Han_Zen + more) ; I would be distinctly disappointed if the Thargoids came back as pure aggressors.

The history is clear - they were attacked by us (collective: humans), then a peace was reached. Unless, of course, they recognise factions, then the Feds and Imps are looking at a whole galactic can of whoop-ass.

No, I strongly suspect a third race/species/diaspora - possibly the 'other' 'goids; or AIs. With the 'original' 'goids as uneasy allies.

I really hope in a brand new specie: UA could be very old indeed. Older than us. Older than Thargoids. Ancient. The seeds of a dormient threat.
I'm thinking to something more similar to Ridley Scott's Xenomorph. A race whose only aim is conquest and submission with the use of force and fear.
Technically so advanced, that we could only hope to not meet them being alone.
That would be interesting for me... that we should even find a way to defeat them, in a common effort. Or mankind will fail.

Just don't even ask......

Ladies & Gents

Silent Pact has made it to the far side of Sagittarius A to the system that rests on the exact opposite side of the galaxy from Varati. It's a lone star system, nothing but a single star.

A moment of silence and awe.

She says that Thargoids follow the investigations closely and may send a science team to assist human researchers. She ends her statment with the following question: 'Have you tried shooting it with a laser?'.

Overheard at Quy diplomatic reception, recording and transcript via INRA, classified CASE NIGHTMARE GREEN:

Thargoid (Oresrian) Military Attache:"Madame Ambassador, don't these softskins know we discovered these things 300 years ago, have been studying them at our Antarctic embassy on Sol, and that they have nothing to do with us?"
Ambassador:"Of course not - the egocentric fools think everything in space that isn't them is Thargoid, and that we are all the same - just bugs to them. Let them think whatever they want, the Klaxians will sort them out, and then they will be begging us for forgiveness and assistance".
Military Attache: "But what about this Lab 69 we keep hearing disturbing reports about?"
Ambassador: "Paah! They don't even know about the Klaxians Lab 8, let alone figured out what we were doing at Peregrina, or where Soontill fits in. Fools, all of them. This whole UA thing is likely INRA and their CIEPer buddies trying to make us look evil again. The Klaxians will sort them all out when the time comes.
Military Attache:"Half of the softskins don't even know what an Outside Context Problem is. They'll never know what hit them!"
Ambassador: "On to more important business - when are we taking that fishing trip to Merlin again?"
Military Attache: "Not until at least Season 3 your Ugliness, and probably not until Season 4 at the rate these softskins are milking the storyline and DLC. Plus they seem to have terraformed Merlin, and it is no longer an ice world - otherwise we would be able to land there in Season 2".
Ambassador:"Pah! Seasons! No subscription model, hah! What will these fools come up with next? I suppose they expect us to pay for them all as well? Don't they know it has been years since we had a good fishing trip there? Hmmph. I guess we will have to make do with the bloody whales off Antarctica again. Next they will be telling us there is no transition on planetary landing and expecting us to believe it!"
Military Attache:"At least Merlin is not a Waterworld your Gore-nifecence. If that was the case we might never be able to go based on the current secret softskin ten-year content plan"
Ambassador:"Gah! Fetch me my drones and more of this Klaxian wine! I feel the need to pointlessly crush things with my mandibles until the juices run out of the corpses, I'm getting out of practice. A pox on all these softskins' houses!"

Unfortunately I have to disagree with you because no spicies can transform into a new kinda mutated spicies or new goid as you mentioned because it's been only 30 years since they have disappeared

There was always at least two Thargoid-like species according to the new lore (current fiction, released with the new game) - Clavain's post makes reference above ;)

So, not a 'new species' as in - only just created, but 'new to the game-world' war-like species that's been there for as long as the 'goids themselves...
