Has anyone tried smoking the UA? Maybe that's why its illegal ;)

Dude, it's like ... wow ... there are so many buttons. Why does this ship have so many buttons? I wonder what happens if I press the big red ... Wait a minute, what's that? Is that a hand? This is ... This is my hand? Wow, dude, I have hands ...
Anyway, with all the particles released by UA, I don't think it's necessarily to smoke them.

Clavain.. I attempted to paraphrase from memory the description, and only came up with "blah blah blah quaratine, blah blah, moon, blah blah aliens artifacts." lol

Here is a pic of the acutal description: http://imgur.com/oArmIYe

I am not jumping to any conclusions other than that this system has an intriguing description. The connection to the Alien Artifacts doesn't necessarily mean UA, but I do find the following interesting:

- Quarantined moon
- Kill on Sight orders if you enter moon orbit (not enforced in game)
- Research Station.. first I've seen. I didn't know they existed.
- System description, linking to Alien stuff, found in deep space... sounds similar to DBs original statement which started this whole UA thing.

In my mind, these are all neat indicators.

Currently, I am just looking at NPC ships, trying to find any significant names.

If anyone wants to provide me with a list of npc names to look for, I would appreciate that. ie: Ishmael Palin

The Kill on Sight orders are not for entering orbit. They are for entering the atmosphere. We have to wait another year to do that:(

This is indeed VERY interesting! I've never seen a system description like that, though I admit I don't tend to pay a lot of attention to system descriptions. Has anyone else seen this type of description elsewhere? If not it would suggest it's not procedurally generated, therefore manually entered by FD. And if someone at FD takes the time to manually enter a description there must be a good reason for it.

I of course must stress that at this point this is all pure speculation, but I find it nonetheless very intriguing and worth keeping an eye on.

PS: By the way, what's up with the rep button being gone? I so wanted to give you rep on this one.

So, I know we're not supposed to talk about the beta but still, yesterday some important science was carried out on one of the moons of Merope. So read at your own risk!
It seems to be impossible to land your SRV on top of a ship. We tried to land an SRV on top of a Python and on top of an Asp, but the SRV would pitch forward and down before it could come above the ship. So we haven't managed to fly on top of someone else's ship yet or get an SRV into orbit.
Of course, these experiments were all in the name of science. :D

Has anyone thought of warning Targoids (if we meet them) about pirates and criminals? Because they can be quite different in the structure of society. And if they are attacked by pirates, it does not mean that all people are hostile to them.
Maybe that's why Targoids attacked us first time? Because some filthy pirate thought, "It will be fun to shoot those plates!"

Hmm, Ayal has me thinking though - very dangerous. As some of you know, I am not a big fan of the UA==Thargoid bandwagon. That said, we know that MB said many many moons ago something along the lines of (and here I am paraphrasing) that what humanity perceived as a Thargoid invasion was really only a scouting party, and that the Thargoids are likely to be looking to see what happened to those scouts. Could the UAs be a Thargoid probe sent to try to regain contact with their scouting party and/or determine what happened to them? And the ship scan is to look for a Thargoid ship design or Thargoid tech on a human ship?

I can't remember what MB said either but I like your thinking. Along the Thargoid tech line did anyone work out what upgrades Lady Kahina (spelling?) got fitted to her ship back in April-ish. It was a Galnet post that mentioned Persephone or Persephone dock. I'm on my phone so can't easily grab it.

You can never have too much tinfoil when you link SS1, Antares, UAs, and Merope. More I say!

Btw Pop.. Too add another sheet of foil, I am chilling in Peregina and noticed that the station Talos 1, which orbits the quarantined moon Undine, is a Science Research station.

So a Scientific Research station is orbiting a moon that is locked down, with Universal Kill On Sight orders. The same system known for the Unknown Alien Artifacts being brought there.

*Cue the Shrilly violins... and DUn DUn duuuun.

I'm wondering if the fact that Talos 1 is orbiting a quarantined moon is a reference to Talos IV in Star Trek...

The planet Talos IV was under quarantine by Federation "General Order 7" which carries the death penalty for breaking.

Thargoids knows that one human does not speak for the entire hive. It is not logical to them, but I think they have accepted it.:)

This is how we greeted them the first time thy dropped by:

'THE THARGOIDS - TRUTH AND FICTION -11
M.C.S

The Thargoids were first reported in human space by Lens Nikon, supervisor of the 'Planets Unlimited' Terra-formation Project on New Africa (Veliaze -2,3). They appeared in large numbers following the initial stages of planetary alteration. Initially only the Thargons were seen, flying in linear formation at a steady distance from the Planets Unlimited fleet.

It was only after the instigation of oxygenation that a mother ship was observed from a distance and no hostile action was reported until one of the Fleet Commanders ordered his defence wing to "melt them down".

There followed the complete destruction of all Thargoid ships in the area, including the mother ship. Forty eight hours later, the entire Planets Unlimited Fleet experienced a mis-jump and were met by around thirty Thargoid mother ships with an encircling fleet of Thargons.

Only two survivors returned (both unscathed) and neither made coherent reports although it seems likely that the two may be the only humanoids to have seen a living Thargoid and survived. Reports of their debriefing at the Therapy Centre on Eta Cassiopoea, suggest that the Thargoids made several attempts to open negotiations but were fired on at each juncture.

The exact details will never be known but the first shots were undoubtedly fired and the Thargoid Wars started in earnest. Hostilities continued for the next century and a half with neither side making sane communication with the other.

Or did they?

In our next report, we examine the issue of Inter-Species Communication.'

We could perhaps try something different with the next species we bump into?

with neither side making sane communication with the other.

i can slightly remember that they send us a translator, but that was hidden by politicians because that war was a good way to increase their own political power. dont know where i read that though and if it is canon

edit:
Our belief is that they did and we did - but not publicly. We have new, unpublished research to suggest that the Inter Species Translator was not, in fact, a development of the INRA researchers, but was designed, built and delivered by the Thargoids in an attempt to halt the war. We believe that the authorities of the two existing galactic powers suppressed all communications (and continue to do so), using the 'Thargoid Menace' as a political tool to retain control over the pioneering colonists of the early Thirtieth century.

I believe you are talking about this article.

Excerpt:
The images themselves are grainy and ill-defined, but seem to show that the drives, shields and possibly the frame-shift drive components have been significantly upgraded.

It can be done.
Pat and I both got on top of my Asp, and I was able to take off with Pat still on top.

It's definitely hand-crafted. There are other hand crafted descriptions, though not often as interesting as that one.

Reputation is disabled until tomorrow. Hopefully the forum servers won't be getting hammered quite as hard then.

Could Canonn do all communication with Targoids please? Because I know that politicians will only make everything bad. (Except for the Alliance mb.)
Seriously, what can politicians say to Targoids, that scientists (Canonn) couldn't? Politicians will promise to help, and will ask for technologies, resources, and "whatever else they want". But we must offer them free help (if they need it) to show that mankind really is kind.
...no hostile action was reported until one of the Fleet Commanders ordered his defence wing to "melt them down".
I really do hate these military and politicians.

Unfortunately this is irrelevant to everything...

Using strong language there to ensure that any future connection between her and anything is dispelled.

Kahina is a creation of Drew Wagar, from the book he wrote. Any connection between her activity or any official storyline in game (therefore UAs, SS1 or anything else) is entirely coincidental and generally designed to conflate one with the other. Basically, a giant red herring.
