UA Search re: Halsey, Galnet, Federation variables.

You should ask it to the players pledged to Antal, because it was them who decided to expand there. There's a thread about it.

I suspected as much, when I saw the traffic in that system was over 200 in the last 24 hours. Also, there are several player made articles for that system. Anyways, I'm off to my next adventure.

<...> I've been trying to figure out how the Antares relates to all of this, and going off of your theory that it had a Thargoid derived fsd maybe the INRA used it as a test for their more potent version of the Mycoid virus. Then Halsey being good friends with the now dead VP decides to do some investigating and gets killed off because of it. Although I am not exactly sure how Mahon would have any info regarding any of this and what the connection to Azaleach would be. Also just to expand on your Thargoid fsd theory I think it's possible all of our fsd's are Thargoid based. Especially seeing as how we had at least a short term peace with them and from what I read in the FFE articles at least some scientific exchanges took place. <...>

Hello Stryder well done with your historical investigation.

My thought on this is that Halsey figured out that something very much out of the ordinary was happening both in and outside of the human bubble (remember the Fed convoys carrying UAs?), as a result she used politics as a perfect coverup to check on the Federation's outer territories status WHILE meeting with Mahon who realistically would be her best bet for an ally in case of a sort of alien invasion....

Why?

First and foremost Halsey was not what you would consider a "hawk" so Mahon's policies would be politically more in line with what she was looking for during a time of necessary military reinforcement. Second if you go by lore Mahon was around when the Thargoids and the Alliance negotiated thus giving anyone associating with the AIS potential space-cred with other alien beings rather than someone like say... Hudson who comes across as a shoot first and ask questions later type of guy. Also let's not forget that if anyone benefited from the Human-Thargoid exchange it was the AIS.

So why not the Empire? let's see assassination attempts, tons of jackals vying for the throne... too unstable and too potential for some powerplayer (see what I did there) to turn on the Feds if a war was to break out with an outside aggressor.

So that is how I think Halsey's disappearance ties in with the whole UA appearance.

A bit of speculation on my part... going from the Newtonian craptastic drives we had in Frontier to the new shiny FSD spectaculars I can't help but think that a lot of Thargoid design had to go in them and that is because Thargoids were/are masters of witchspace. Supercruise may well be a lower form of witchspace and our studies of technology during the exchange period yielded this sort of drive allowing us to push further out... and apparently attract some interest.

Second if you go by lore Mahon was around when the Thargoids and the Alliance negotiated

I didn't play Frontier or FFE so my lore knowledge is lacking, how long ago were the peace negotiations? Is Mahon particularly old or was last contact with the Thargoids relatively recent?

The Alliance is only about 70 years old by the time of Elite Dangerous. Mahon is 114 years old and the peace treaty with the Thargoids happened in game sometime around 3252-3255 or so.

[...]
Two questions remain:
- Why did Halsey decide to pay an impromptu visit to the Azaleach system? Was it after talking to Edmund Mahon? Deal between the Feds and the Alliance? ("She was away trying to raise support from the frontier" - Hudson Calls for Vote of No Confidence)[...]

Needless to say I completely agree with you EAGLE 5. :D We should be able to unravel the mystery with the hints we've been given so far. We're getting closer.

Also lets not forget that Hudson started getting really chummy with the military industrial complex and some medical research groups while he was Shadow President... And now he's in charge and we have "medical convoys" burning up space left and right. Sounds like Hudson may be setting up his own covert ops... I'm thinking like the Black Lance in Wing Commander IV.

Keep collecting, analyzing, and disseminating all that information gents!

The recent treasure hunt has reminded me that amongst several of the tools the devs have, (galnet, missions, ai, galnet, game mechanincs, etc..); is that they have used individual stations in the past to perpetuate a story. Aside from the treasure hunt, which leads you to one station or another, there was the graphic card giveaway.

Does anyone remember the details of that giveaway?

With that said, it is possible that the next step/progression is found in bulletin boards/missions or news reports of specific stations. If so, which stations do you think stands out? Is there a system or station Galnet related that might make sense to bring a UA to, hoping it triggers a mission or report in station?

Ex Bulletin Board related missions: After SS1 disappeared, there was a CG at a specific station in the system he was last seen in.. Leonidas Orbital or something.

Leoniceno Orbital, Azaleach.
The Titan Black hunt was just about a Titan Black Commodity sold in just one almost-random station around the Galaxy.

Current Treasure Hunt is much more detailed and complex, involving specific news in specific stations, a hidden CG in a particular Station, and a Special and unique Signal Source that is permanent, fixed, and visible from 1000ls distance.

Thanks. So the Thargoid plague, peace treaty, etc happened less than 50 years ago. Well within living memory so it's surprising those events aren't better known in game. There should be Thargoid zombie horror films and games. Most of the current PP leaders would have been alive at the time.

Armed group attempts to destroy UA research

https://community.elitedangerous.com/galnet/uid/56373bda9657ba187b5fe4ac

Security personnel at Christian Dock in the Nganji System have successfully apprehended a group of armed interlopers, it has been confirmed. The intruders, who were reported to be in possession of personal weapons classed as illegal in several systems, are being detained while they await preliminary sentencing.

Jason Treeves, head of security at Christian Dock, had the following to say:

"The trespassers managed to disable our frontline security system, but apparently they didn't realise we had an array of secondary sensors, and they triggered the alarm. A response team was scrambled to their location, and my men succeeded in subduing the intruders with a minimum of fuss. A full investigation into how these men were able to bypass our security systems is now underway."

Readers will no doubt recall that Christian Dock is also the centre of Professor Ishmael Palin's research into the unknown artefacts discovered earlier this year. Treeves refused to comment on a possible connection between the security breach and Professor Palin's research, but a civilian source at Christian Dock said:

"I have it on good authority they were caught trying to break into Palin's laboratory, and I heard they had incendiary explosives, too. I wouldn't be surprised to discover they were trying to destroy the lab and the UAs".

Of course, I'm sure it will emerge that this group of anti-science extremists were acting alone. Hopefully they won't have any Unfortunate Accidents before they can be interrogated.

I'm pretty sure that Palin find something about the UA you do not want to know ! I would not be surprised that "something happens" to him in the future. Anyway it's good to know Palin he's back for something cool in the background of Elite.

Slight change of gears... has anyone recently analyzed the patterns "glyphs" of the UA?

I touched on this in the main UA thread, but I have been playing around with sending Comms to the UA. Specifically, I have used Morse code, with no progress made. Yet the glyphs may provide a clue or sequence that will trigger the UA. Are there any significant codes or patterns derived from the glyphs, that we can send to the UA in Morse?

Anyone find the president yet?

Nope. No idea how to find him either, maybe take a UA to Merope and get as close to the star as possible. Look for wreckage sites?

Thanks King Sancho ! i didn't looked at this system so it could be a good reason now !

It seem the moon could be very INTERESTING with horizon update ... "Any ship passing into the moon's atmosphere will be automatically designated a plague ship, refused docking in all systems and destroyed on-sight by all faction and system security forces"

You need to get a permit by doing work for teh Peregina Aristocrats, in a nearby system. I also am curious to see the planet landings on this moon.

Hi guys. I was the person that wrote the article, Jun. 14: Open Case, Knights of Black. Claim of alien threat & Fed coverup. Its good to know that I wasn't the only one still wondering what happened with Halsey. I wasn't a big fan of hers, but her disappearance intrigued me. And when Frontier published my submitted article on GalNet, it felt like they were giving us a wink and a nod, like maybe there would be more to SS1's disappearance. I'm about to deck out my Diamondback and go play around Pleiades for a bit. You can well bet if I find something, I'll let yall know about it.

Thanks for this great, informative thread! :) See you in the black.

Hm, very interesting, thanks for the info!

Ok, I've spent the past few days looking for the Antares, I'm really obsessed with it. I visited several PoI, to no avail...I checked Salvageable Wreckages, USS, WSS, SSS but nope, the Antares is nowhere to be seen. There is so much info on it (GalNet, Federal Times) I thought it was present in-game but I guess I was wrong. I'm not giving up though, I'll just wait till they implement it...

Interesting GALNET article that quotes Halsey. Will her storyline resume?

'The Missing' - 30 NOV 3301

In this latest edition of our series revisiting key points in human history, award-winning journalist Fiona Parker discusses 'the missing' – the lost explorers who played a key role in the golden age of human exploration.

"Our preoccupation with progress means we tend to forget about those who fall by the wayside, but our present-day interplanetary civilisation would arguably not have come to pass without the pioneers of the mid-third Millennium."

"Between 2200 and 2700 the galaxy bore witness to a period of massive expansion, as huge numbers of expeditions and colonisation missions set off into the black. At the time, sending messages at light speed was impossible, so it could take years, or even decades, for a message to reach its destination. In those days, you really were on your own, with nothing but your own ingenuity to rely on in times of crisis."

"We knew much less about the galaxy then than we do now, and scanning technology was considerably less sophisticated, so colonisation missions were particularly risky. Sometimes colonists were confronted with issues they couldn't possibly have prepared for, and many of the early settlements lasted only a few years."

"Of course, this phenomenon is not confined solely to the past. Only last year we lost Jasmina Halsey, the former Federal president, when her starship disappeared during an interplanetary tour. It's a fact both of our past and our present – an inescapable reality of life among the stars."

Sounds almost like we might not be far off finding out what happened. Perhaps there will be something to find on a planet either in Horizons Beta or in the full version once it is released? Are there any thoughts as to which systems it would be best to focus on when exploring landable planets?
