THIS ^^^^
After the update, we'll be able to get the full UP sound, the REGULAR sound while floating in space, not the MESSAGE. The message lasts only few seconds (25, if I'm not mistaken)

And I wonder now also about the floating UA sound and it's length?

If I understand the posts correctly, Mr. Brooks mentions that it is testable whether UA or UP is more advanced. I have not been clear on what aspects of the two might be tested toward that end.

It seems I've scanned the planet mentioned in the new CG before. Hotter and with higher gravity than we've been checking for Barnacles so far:

I'm heading there now to check it out.
Apart from its size it's not too different to the moons/planets already discovered to have barnacles on (temp only a few kelvin higher than those previously reported) and I would not be suprised if the main reason barnacles have not been reported on larger moons/planets is we have been concentrating on smaller ones and there is less surface area to cover on smaller moons/planets.

We have to remember at the moment when hunting for barnacles we have been risking selection bias as we often only look at worlds similar to where they have already been found

is a table more advanced than a door? can't compare..
is a chair more advanced than a couch? can compare.
either UA or UP is more advanced, if MB compares them then they might be so very much related..

No value added here, but as someone who's been playing this game since the 80s, on a BBC, then a C64, then a 386, etc.; I'm not sure how I feel about the overly complicated process required to get through some of the puzzles. To be honest, I was basically washed out when horizons came out, and I actually stumbled on the fact that there is any plot at all when I ended up here. I do think it's cool that there are folks out there with the time, inclination, and equipment to figure these out, and I certainly plan on lurking some more; but as an Xbox player, I'm not 100% sold that I shouldn't be able to solve the puzzles and progress the game, which I paid for without resorting to outside sources. That being said, it's just an opinion and certainly not enough to make me stop playing any time soon, so smart away smart people so I may reap the benefits of your research. Rant over.

Others have talked about the community aspect better than I ever could so I want to focus on the "complexity" argument. There are some incredibly smart people here doing some crazy things that have gone right over my head. It really bugs me when some people, not just you, see this and think "I'm not smart enough or have the equipment to do this so I can't help at all." That's just not true. The most technical thing that's been "required" is the spectrogram which can be recorded both on PC (with a program) and XBOX (natively) and deciphered using several free, dead simple programs.

Even though that might seem complicated, it was solved almost instantly. The real puzzle is what we're doing now: trying to figure out what the image means. You don't need any special knowledge to help with that. Sure, some people go a little overboard, but they haven't solved it either. Use their experiments to come up with your own theories and share with us. This is all one big brainstorm that everyone can contribute to.

Okay, a bit of an in-character/fiction question.

Commanders, we do not know what is coming and we can only have faith that it is as benevolent as we few intend to be.
Given that, should we consider genuinely aiding the Federation create a Forward Operating Base?

It might be handy to have a Farragut or two on hand if things go south.

I too have been playing Elite since the 80's but I see it as simply if anyone works it out and posts it here it benefits the whole community not just the individual :). We are all winners that way are we not?

Now this is something I can get behind. Killing things and dragging things are what I do best. :p

And what if no one had thought to scan the artifact, then things would have looked the same? The story goes as it should go, or it has changed because of the accident found the spectrogram?

This is why we don't need hints.

People jump to conclusions based on absolutely no in game observation.

Edit: btw. Not saying this can't be right. But absolute statements like 'we need to' based solely off a dev comment are poisonous to the actual pursuit of the solution.

+1 holo-rep. You should jump on the Discord. It's like this except amplified by a billion.

Or the Antares...people don't seriously think that was the real wreckage that was found, do they? That's why that other small unknown faction wanted us to turn the wreckage into them instead, they were on to something!

Good ol' Daurtu Jet Comms...I will never forget. I poked around there for a long time after the cg and one day an article popped up in the local news saying something to the effect of some space conglomerate had just given them new production technology. Didn't seem to be a procedurally generated article as I don't remember it pertaining to any state changes or anything. I think they got bought out in exchange for the wreckage they collected which would have undergone some actual testing and processing (had they won the cg) revealing either the actual cause of the wreck or exposing the search party for the farce that it was!

This is actually a reason I wish a player community could have a dialogue with in-game characters.

Put forward the proposition that we will help on the condition that Canonn members and some affiliates get rights to first contact on behalf of the Federation.

They'd never go for it but still xD

In the last few days, I've received many complaints from the Population in Merope:
Thousand of people HONKING around in night hours...

Yes, let's be considerate in our mystery hunting-
the Federation aggressors need their beauty sleep!
and the Barnacles are also g rumbling!
:D
