The guy just shot ones of the spikes, and result was Meta-Alloys, pretty much same mechanique as shooting a Chondrite chunk.
Meta-Alloy do look like cabbage tho

Huh... daytime, in a non-misty crater, in Merope. And NO Elder Gods were present. Hmm.... Looks like literally ALL of our assumptions were wrong, besides our first one which was Merope and then faded over time as no one found anything and looked elsewhere.

I suspect those are the SMALL BARNACLES... they are smaller than the one in the trailer.

For his search, he said he went to Me rope because of the UAs pointing there, then he chose 5C because it was the further away from the sun and it had sand in the craters, like the sand we can see in the trailer. And he finally found them by luck, but he was looking in the right place, good job !
