Okai, a bit further out I think I've found a proof of intelligent lifeforms. In the direction north of the bubble, 3000+ LY out.
This has to be a religious symbol. check the comparison please.

BTW, in case anyone was curious (couldn't see anything about it on the first page), there's nothing unique about the destruction of meta alloys, blows up like just another cargo pod.

Also, surprisingly boring canister when jetted in space:

Also, be careful about where you sell Meta Alloys. I nearly clicked OK and then noticed this....

I'd say it would be worth it to test if these things repair affected stations. Of course if the station isn't affected, then giving them away wouldn't be a good idea unless you just did 1 as a test to see if something happens to the station.

A barnacle sound file here : https://drive.google.com/uc?view=export&id=0B8ck-2ELKOuLeEZjb3VzdXNqTkk

ANd some UA audio : https://drive.google.com/uc?view=export&id=0B8ck-2ELKOuLTldQYXM0VElxenM

It might be tricky the barnacle "purrs" sound very slowed down, you can only really notice the high/low once you speed the audio up.

Do we know the provenance of that barnacle clip? I suspect there's morse in there and I wonder if it spells the planet name or something else? Also, the first thing I notice is that there a waveform right at the beginning that is mirrored. Either played forward and then backward or vice versa.

Yes I agree the crates are significant. Think about the timing- we get hints of Meta-alloys & Space Barnacles, then there is a huge grindfest to find them. A comment by MB "This is good thinking" on Squiggsy's suggestion that there was no reason for treating Merope in any special way in the search was misinterpreted (I don't think that MB was trying to mislead us in any way, it was a valid comment on a good bit of logic) by most of us as meaning that there were none there, which slowed down the search. So when we do find them suddently a lot are found (partially due to us now knowing what to look for) and then a ship in distress call which takes us directly to the Anaconda site with the Caine Massey crates. So I interpret all this as FD are trying to get us to catch up on the plot timeline 'cos we wasted so much time in finding the barnacles. I think these crates are a huge hint.
So, what about the info (I can't see your high res pix)- there is a number on the crate "MO (either letter or number?) -301377" which seems to have arrows either side highlighting it. Coordinates clue?

Those crates are present at the permanent Anaconda wreckage in Orrere. I bet that both wrecks are the same hand-coded POI scene. So the crates are likely irrelevant to the UA/barnacles mystery. I think it's far more likely that things went like this:
Several people on this thread: "Michael, help us, we need more hints"
Michael to dev: "hey, these guys are really struggling to find a barnacle, we need to help them out"
Dev to Michael: "how about we post a little puzzle on Galent about a crashed ship"
Michael to dev: "sounds great, get on it"
Dev to Michael: "ok, I'll use the Anaconda wreck we already developed"

That said, I don't want to discourage anyone who wants to investigate this "hint". Just don't be surprised if it doesn't lead anywhere.

Has anyone realized that the human occupied bubble is right in the center of the "southernmost" blob on the galactic map? I like the idea of this being some sort of galactic map of territories. Perhaps we can get the Distant Worlds expeditions to take a look for Barnacles when they're on their travels?

Map borrowed from https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=116450

Why is the barnacle logo that size and that orientation on the map? It seems completely arbitrary.

Could these things be landing pads for the Barnacles? Central Section to inject a UA 'Fuel' that's discarded on use and the outermost to inject materials to the ship for synthesising into boosts for the alien ships themselves?

I was just flying around on MAIA A2A (planet that obsidian orbital orbits) looking for Barnacles and came across this...

Any thoughts on what it is?

Some logic here.

If you consider this from a gameplay mechanic point of view.
First off, the barnacles drop everything that a ship needs to survive for an extended amount of time away from populated space.

Secondly, we have this dispersal thing going on (quite probably) involving the UAs. I'm willing to bet that the UAs are indicators that a nebula contains barnacles, as a UA is much easier to find. Simply hang around (hopefully) 150 LY from a nebulas central star and wait to see if it spawns.

Thirdly, at least one nearby nebula (to the plaiedes) must contain barnacles as they would have had to set up shop there beforehand. (According to the dispersal theory) we find that, rinse and repeat until we trace them back to their origin.

Makes sense to me...time to come back from BL!
