UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 5 - The Canonn

I think you'll notice one if you're nearby.

And to those asking why nebulae - it's quite logical if you think about it :)

Michael

Sorry to ask, but source?

I meant this quote by MB. He seems certain we'll notice them if we're there, as if you couldn't overlook it. I'm thinking that's because the SRV scanner shows up extremely strange - instead of being on the high band or the low band, it's the entire thing (guess).

Please this! Pretty please!

Here's my view - there's no way to stop two threads or more duplicating content then. At least here, if someone posts something that somebody has already said, then someone will point it out because enough people do go through the pages to catch up.

It's not that it's not a great idea in theory - bit in practise you'll just end up with two hard-to-manage threads rather than one! Then, inevitably, what will happen is one will die and we'll be back to one again anyway.

Which is what happened earlier on :D

It's not that it's perfect as it is, bit we've been here before ;)

SSSSTTTTTOOOOOPPPP!!!! Seriously, just STOP for a few days. Take a break. Do something else. Make a thread for theories and a thread for facts. But whatever you do, DON'T POST IN THIS THREAD FOR A FEW DAYS, unless you discover a meta-alloy/barnacle. PLEASE.

Hehehe, I know how you feel, I keep hoping someone has found a clue or better still a 'Barnacle' site.

But the vast majority of posts are...

So what if we get some grain, drop it on the north pole, deploy a SRV, drop the UA next to the grain then shoot the grain, then point as the brightest star and say "SHazzam!" hehe

I think we well see all the middle band with a very STRONG sound

Ok so I went back and looked at pics of "real" barnacles to get an idea of what they looked like from a distance...... AND:

Say hello to Mr. Charles Darwin having a good look at some barnacles up close then it hit me.... where have I seen that before...?

Barnacle%20Sample.jpg

Uncanny resemblance don't you think? Some high metal worlds feature rocks that are very much pockmarked with what look like tiny barnacle like things.... I wonder if micro barnacles = macro barnacles nearby?

Unfortunately that rock could not be destroyed with SRV or ship weapons.

Found a site on Merope 3C that was not shown on radar (a fixed one?), guarded by defence turrets and sentries.
Not sure what it was, cause had to boost away (could as well be a mining site). Its in a very deep crater, that has even deeper canyons in it. Its pitch dark there.

See screen for coords, maybe someone is around to check out and whats it about?

Edit: As I came back the site was gone :( the sentries were still alive which explains reports of hovering sentries without POI/site near. seems like garbage collecting isnt working properly in some cases/sites

Well assuming these things are part of the Convoy ships we once saw..... where could they have been coming from? California Nebula area maybe? (another nebula...) that's where Palin was racing back from with his T7 before he got jumped. It would make sense that some woefully unprepared Navy flyboys at their first top secret black ops mission didn't make it too far with their equipment and crashed out on the way home. Survivors may be the ones setting up all these wonderful installations on these isolated planets... and maybe the UAs popped and seeded the area who knows... one thing that does bother me some is that the virtually all the wrecks on planets I've seen were Anacondas. If you recall the UA convoys were escorted by some pretty mean anacondas armed to the hilt...... they weren't carrying the UAs, the T9s were. so who shot down all these Anacondas?

Sounds like mama bear went back for her cubs if you know what I'm saying.
I dont know if can help but last night i jumped in to a SSS 20ls away from the black hole in maia, and there was a T9 with at least 7 Condas and one or two other smaller ship that i cant recall (volture?)

For sale: two tickets for Thursday night's game. Section PR5, row 2, seats 5 and 6, dead centre, perfect viewing height. Let me know.

Are we sure this is related with the bernacles? I didint read a confirmation about

1. Video shows SRV on a 1G +/- 0.1 world

I checked all shots of the video ("Elite Dangerous: Horizons Launch Trailer
") today and I saw SRVs had always same thrusters position - all time, all planets/moons. Probability says me no to this clue. More probable is that video maker used model with static thrusters position.

This is an UA speculation thread, is it not ?

Man, it's times like this that I wish I was a mod...

So you can abuse your power and make people do as you want ?

I can feel the Parisian stress bud, join me in the west, you'll feel more relaxed.

Possible. I ran into the same textures on two high metal (100% metal) planets last night. Ive spent so long on planets inside nebulae the last week that I cant remember if I've ever run into this elsewhere. It did have a lovely green glow, but I just attributed that to the lighting of where I was

This was also on a 2 refuel SRV run with some 3KM flight plans, nothing nearby to that.

Related to an earlier CG - a Christmas one I think.

Either way: move along people, nothing to see here ;)

Now, I still think there's a barnacle in Merope. However, I wonder if one might not be easier to find in a planetary nebula that has fewer planets to search. I really wish that when Horizons came they put the ability to land on planets in every ship automatically instead of making me schlepp from Sag. A* all the way back to the bubble to get the module installed. I've been checking out some of the planetary nebula near the galactic core and I feel like that be prime barnacle hunting territory.

-------

Also, regarding the high/low notes in the UA sounds, have we ever confirmed/disproven whether there's a repeating pattern in those? A non-repeating pattern would pretty well put to rest the idea that there's a message in there.

Merope is the strongest candidate for me with the UA link. I've started systematically searching the north poles of all landable planets. If that yields nothing then I'll check the south poles and 0,0

Checked Merope 3C , 5A , 5C , 5B & 2A North Poles today and nothing for me. :(

I think if Michael Brooks could just confirm that 'Barnacles' can be found from a ship scouting roughly 500km up I would feel a lot better. Also I do worry that the odd crash we have could be related to a 'Barnacle' site.

One would expect an in-game clue. Anyone picking up the mission with no access to this forum would have an impossible task.... Unless we have missed a clue in game of course.

Even though we are searching the correct region of space, it's still a unimaginable huge task.

The only thing he confirmed is that we can't really miss it and it has everything to do with "location and distance".

I think this is the biggest clue he could give us; "Guaranteed to find them in the right location". So, it's not so much about finding them, but rather the right location. This means they'd be so noticeable it would be near impossible to miss, or that the location is so out of the ordinary...

I agree.

I ended up leaving my UA on the surface of Merope 1A yesterday - and NOT selling it to a black market. :p

Somebody asked me if it could grow something on that spot later. Maybe it's worth finding out?
