I was re-reading the description of the meta-alloys, and I feel compelled to point out a few things.

Meta-alloys have a complex lattice structure with large internal voids. They are cellular in nature, and formed organically.
Ok, so, they're cells, part of some kind of living metallic alien entity. Meta-alloys seem to be analogous to wood or flesh, just, made of metals.

...the composition is different in different parts of the cell walls for strength.
Or it's different because living cells are complicated and have different parts. It's not 'for strength', it's for biology!

They are easily machined...This material has been heralded as the next step in materials technology.
So we're going to find these meta-alloys eventually, sell them to stations, and someone's going to slap it in a CNC machine and make spaceship struts out of them.

Not to dampen the search, but, let's all just be aware that when you cargo scoop that first rare meta-alloy, you're capturing an organism of unknown origin and sophistication, and treating it like a building material. I'm not making any judgements, just laying out the facts :)

You probably already know, but just an FYI.
A wing of 4 FDL's just took out my AspX whilst leaving Obsidian Orbital.

Fly safe commanders ;)

I have a feeling extracting meta alloys from a "barnacle" may involve shooting it ;)

All of my ship's components are built from the bones of my fallen enemies. You say that like it's a weird thing... :p

I'm wondering if we need someone to successfully solve one of these NPC distress calls that have been recently added. From what I've heard some of them feature waves of attacks on a ship. Perhaps successfully defending one of these will cause the distressed NPC to give hints towards barnacles or meta-alloys. I've seen a number of these distress calls in the Pleiades but haven't been equipped to help out.

I also agree with Han_Zen and Starnsworth. I think there's more to discover about the UAs visually. I know they have been researched a great deal already, and any discoveries may not directly be related to barnacles, but seems like there is still much to be found there.

Right. My understanding of this is that it means there may be some random barnacle POIs in the Pleiades because the conditions may be met but there are definitely static barnacle POIs in the Pleiades because they have been manually placed there by FD.

If you want to try out the distress calls i can help you.

Hi there,

If one of you guys is actually participating in this blockade, could you please explain me what is the point here?

Don't get me wrong, PvP is what I enjoy the most and have actually dedicated the last couple of days to hunt other commanders wearing the flag of my enemies (PowerPlay) at some of the most popular bounty farming spots. All of my preys were outfitted for combat and I don't engage anything smaller than an Asp / Master rank (with a few exceptions). Before I open fire I also systematically (with a few exceptions) send a macro explaining my motivations.

But this blockade at Obsidian...for what is it exactly? Don't you want to get the answer of this damn alien stuff? What kind of preys are you targeting? Could you please kindly explain in what chasing off players outfitted for exploration is worth?

You should have read the FrontPage then, there's a vile blockade taking place in Maia. ;)

Without naming them, do we know what player group they are from? tags on the end of their name?

Oh, we know them very well, indeed. It's in the FP as well.

Wait!
We know they are Alien, at least.
"They are associated with recently discovered alien entities nicknamed 'Large Barnacles' by interstellar explorers."

For the rest I agree.

OK, Meta-Alloys are associated with recently discovered alien entities nicknamed 'Large Barnacles' by interstellar explorers. - I'll give you that, but we don't know in what context 'Alien' is being used. There is no evidence pointing to an alien race, just that they are alien.

It's under a bogus reason to justify griefing behavior from the Dreaming Bear Assembly (or something)

It's just pure and simple Turkey Shooting, nothing more.
They have fun like that.

I was watching a livestream of one of the blockaders, and there were a bunch of them talking on voice chat. They openly admit to just being trolls and griefers and that the RP justification they had on Reddit was nonsense.

We (explorers) are not the one organizing this. In facte we are the potential victimes of some ridicule gankers who came with well equiped ship to shoot unarmed ship and feel amazing of killing defenceless ship. The distance from civilisation make sure no too much true pvpers will come and shoot their ass.
