While that is the correct answer, it was not the tin foil hat answer I was hoping for. Thank you.

Need to adjust your hat..... Guess what the anagram for it is.... A Spellings Reorder
somehow I doubt that is a coincidence
OK, sorry if this has been asked before, I've been away a few days and don't have the time to look back over many pages, I did check the front page...
Anyway, why 'Darnielle's Progress' ? WHo is Darnielle, and what is he/she progressing? I did a quick look back over some of the older Palin galnet posts to see if Darnielle was mentioned as perhaps one of his research assistants, given this is a Palin sponsored research outpost, but nada. It seems a wierd name to pull out of the hat.
Edit: I thought I was able to spot a barnacle from 9km yesterday, but it turned out to be Commander Darwins shiny white Cutter. It was beautiful in the sunlight.
The barnacle became visible for me at about 3km.
It was strange how we de-instanced mid conversation, and I could then see 4 meta pods, 2 on each spike.
Similar when another CMDR joined. This time we saw different things. He harvested right in front of me (I saw him shoot and scoop) but my 2 pods and spines remained intact.
As for the ship, I'm still in the taking selfies phase of newness.
When I paid a visit to Merope 5C,
"I'm watching Darwin try and land that whale" was seen on the local comms as I was trying to find a flat spot to land...
Salvagable wreckage sites generally aren't that exciting. Is there anything special apart from the persistence?
I messed about with an UA and a meta-alloy seed yesterday. Nothing happened, even when I got them to touch each other.
The most interesting observation is how the objects reflect light. This was in daylight (not quit noon) conditions.
The UA is very bright. Almost white. The meta-alloy is quite dark, even in the sunlight.
The grey bits on the Meta-Alloy and the darkest bits on the UA head (the bits between the ox-head markings) seem like the same material. They still reflect light very differently.
Probably just settings on the 3D models. They are most likely optimized for different light environments.
