UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

That's fine, and kind of makes sense - but then that would mean that either the USS's spawning out in Nebulae aren't related to anything (just part of the RNG), or one thing (Rift or UA's), or both (independantly). <shrugs>

I know we are missing something. (My guess the Unknown Probe) if its not that... then they need to throw us a bone. Or at least confirm the UA is diff from the UP

so does nobody have anything to say about the unknown fragment left behind from an exploding unknown artifact?

That's a very vague question, it depends what you want to know about them. We know that Palin wants them in order to do work for you and now (unless I'm corrected) you know as much as anyone else :) It was also answered in this thread yesterday.

Also, there was a post about "Powerplay updating, and something else updating",,, can't remember who said that, but obv that's to do with this right? Any source on where that info came from?

It was me who said it and I was speculating, though I think it's a fair assumption.

Tuesday: Barnacle discovered in a different nebula
Thursday morning 02:00 IGT: Zenith confirms the state of the Barnacle in Californian Nebula
Thursday morning 07:00 IGT: Powerplay tick and presumably other server information updated
Thursday evening 18:34 BST: Udo posts that the Barnacle states have changed (this is the confirmed by Zenith and myself)

It seems very coincidental indeed that the morning of the server tick after a new barnacle has been discovered everything changes, but then it could be.

Just a quick bit of info. At Deciat where the engineers base is who is fiddling around with UA stuff there are some Big Fed Convoys around there in uss. not very frequent but around deciat 6. last night one with 4 cobras 3 condas 3 type 9s. didnt have a scanner im afraid. ps if you need to do fsd upgrades there every thing you need is in that system. Deciat 7b has all the materials on its surface and uss have the tech you need.

It'll be the first one.

The 1st California Barney was discovered on Sunday, shortly after there was a server reboot and Col 69 was unlocked.

My theory is they want us to go back to Merope. Im about to buy my new conda in about 10-20 minutes (FINALLY!) so im going to scout for any Unknown Probes

Great that just put my "Going back and look for UPs in merope" theory down the drain.. are the barnies "Checkpoints"? If we find one. It unlocked the next level. Leading us somwhere? I want someone to see if 69 has any barns in it.

I traveled through Col 69 almost a week ago on my way to barnards...????
Sorry, I am going by what I was told. Col 69 and 70 were locked, then Col 69 wasnt. If Col 69 was never locked it the 1st place, I will have to hunt through the Discord chat history and murder the idiot who had me fly all the way out there with a UA.

Hi Guys! ...

For the love of the great prophet Zarquon please use Spoiler tags for MASSIVE images.

The 1st California Barney was discovered on Sunday, shortly after there was a server reboot and Col 69 was unlocked.

Ah OK then, that's why I asked for confirmation last night that the first one was found on Tuesday (just going by the post in the thread, I'd been away). So my ramblings could be just that, ramblings, though it seems strange that the states of the barnacles didn't change with the server reboot, but only on Thursday...

Out of interest why did you say you think they will change every Thursday?

Did you guys check on this barnacle, or rather, barnacles in California?
CALIFORNIA SECTOR DL-Y D4 C 6

-34.4666
-44.4269

Two of them literally right next to each other, as in so close I couldn't tell which barnacle the outer spikes belonged to.

I think they're already active. There's plenty of indications of things going wrong with frame shifts - Highliner Antares, Starship One, Jacques. Lots of weird wreckage turning up with private beacons containing FSD error logs. Some of the wake data scans descriptions also mention 'there are rumours that something more insidious has been discovered'.

Seems to me that playing around with experimental or unusual frameshift technology is likely to attract unwanted attention.

Col 69 (near Horse Head) became unlocked. Col 70 remained.

Col 69 has always been open. Col 70 was locked at the release of 2.1 . This is not a guess or in question

This is also good thinking, but I don't think that there is another UA shell. Here are my reasons:

All UAs point to Merope. This started wit the release of 1.4 (beta to be precise). I was there when Ratking15 took the first ever UA to Merope for testing.
All the early testing were done on UAs that were not found in the Shell. Ratking's was liberated from a convoy, others were found in SSS in the Pleiades and some were even duplicates from the instancing bug.

As a game object, all UAs are the same. They are cargo canisters. There is nothing suggesting that the object knows where it was spawned. In fact, it probably re-spawns when jettisoned. I doubt that the object exists while we have it in the cargo hold. They have never shown any indication to be persistent.

This means that to have a second shell, the game would need a second UA object. UAs in the new shell will have to be of a different type, that point to a different place. This is of course as very small task for the devs to make a copy object with a few changed properties, so it's not impossible.

If we are to believe the Wings trailer, the first UAs were found in the California Nebula or beyond. They still started to point to Merope, when 1.4 dropped.

Spot on Han_Zen!

Don't think this barnacle has been spotted before (couldn't see it in the list I was looking at) but it's also dead and otherwise I don't see anything of note:
Pleiades Sector JC-U B3-2 1
2.41 23.57

So I was thinking what if the whole barnacle pointing at Merope has to do with it's star type (B-type)

Argggh...I mean't UA not barnacle (And I can't edit posts since I haven't done more than three posts yet)

Edit: yay three posts...It's been corrected

Guys, for those in the hunt of the unknown probe, I highly suggest you to go to lave or sol, and start scanning ships departing from lave2 or triton. Seems doggie that these permit locked planets are still inaccessible, but ships coming from these planets to an outpost or a station can be scanned at the arrival point. Just an idea.
PS: interdiction is still an option for those living on the edge..
