Ultimate mining ship

There are no ultimate ships... Each ship is a bag of compromises in some respect.

Put simply, though, the Power Distributer is king: The beefier the better.

The Cutter can be the best of everything per combat, trading and even mining. Add some engineering and totally understanding how to fly the ship. My metaphor is the "Dirty Dozen' movie where Major Riseman gives Posey a knife, pushes him to to the limit then subdues him. The response is, "You know, you learn how to take care of that temper of yours ain't nobody gonna take this knife away from you.". That works a lot with any player's emotions flying a ship in ED especially with a Cutter. It's speed offsets the advantages of a Corvette or Anaconda. Learn how to use it. Take care of your emotions and nobody is going to defeat you in a Cuter unless you lack the experience to take them on.

As a mining ship you can also seriously defend if you have the skills. There is always someone out there better than you. Choose your fights wisely.

Regards

Forgot to mention... if you want to become more involved in mining, there's a fantastic mining community over at IMU (Intergalactic Mining Union). So far it's the largest mining community in Elite with nearly 300 members on the discord server. Wing mining events are hosted each week. If you need any help or advice when it comes to mining, just hit us up over on the discord :)

I started with mining quite late, but I decided to start big and not having the ranks or credits for one of the big three, I settled for Type-10:
- 256 cargo
- 2 x small + 1 x medium mining laser
- 4 larget turreted lasers
- 2 medium MC
- fighter bay
- 1A prospector
- rest is collector limpets.

Wit 3 PIPS in engines, I can run the mining lasers forever and the limpets barely keep up.
I go to RES site, clean the area of the initial pirates then start mining. I get attacked, but the turrets, SLF, and authority ships make short work of the pirates and I never need to fight (even in HIGH RES).
I like this because I double dip in mining credits and bounty credits when I go back to the station.

My only gripe with mining is the collector limpets. I fill up my cargo with 80% limpets and I always run out of limpets before I fill the cargo.

I think the issue is that the limpets expire randomly. I don't target fragments (always target the prospector limpet), but sometimes, I launch 8 limpets and they all expire within seconds without collecting anything.

That's my biggest gripe about limpets, they're just so dumb. Apparently if you use your downward thrusters you can kill your limpets.

Corvette, 4 mining lasers, 3 class 5 collectors.

Two huge MC's with IMP Hammer for those annoying pirates, one PD, big shields and 336t of capacity for the rocks and limpets.

I usually stay at the RES after filling up and kill pirates for fun and bounties.

I have a Corvette miner, and if you're on a budget the Clipper is mine tactic.

That's not true.

Thrusting down onto your limpets, used to be the way to get rid of unwanted canisters, before the ignore function. Thrusting down onto your limpets would destroy their cargo, but not the limpets. Mats and fragments are unharmed as well.

I suspect you have an asteroid below your ship that you are maneuvering your limpets into.

How does that work with a Cutter, with mining lasers on the nacelles?
I assumed the convergence would be particularly terrible at mining range.

You do need to be careful to get all 4 lasers hitting, but it's fine with even the small rods.

It can be a problem directing the fragment stream when it's off one of the side lasers.
