Understanding the Negative Feedback

As we all are very well aware... there are a lot of people posting negative threads about ED.... Let me try and explain why I believe that is. But first let me explain what it is not... It is NOT hating for hating sake.... It is not People don't like Elite.... It is Not people want to play other games.... It is not they don't know how to play.... It is NOT people don't have imagination.... What these posts are however, are written by people whom Love the Elite universe and feel they have been let down severely by the lack of game. Yes they may be in awe of the Galaxy simulation... but the game is missing. These people including myself feel duped into buying a game at £40 that was not delivered. And we have every right to be vocal about it!

Everobody has the right to post their opinion. They also have the right to defend their opinion. Personally I like the game as it is, as we were all exepecting different things from the game. However, I fully understand that some people are not happy with the game and want more, which they are entitled to post about. As long as those requests are realistic. Landing on a planet is Elite. Running around shooting things in a FPS is not Elite. Fixing the missions and giving the game depth should be the main priority.

I understood quite clearly that this was a £40 game in progress. This isnt EIDOS or EA games with a potful of cash, its essentially a start up. The game will evolve. If you feel duped then sorry about that but a great many of us knew what we were getting into and get fed up that people did not do their homework and then shout loudly and bombard the forum with negativity. We too have every right to be vocal. Come back to the game in a few months.

Indeed. Nice to see a polite post on the subject, though. Quite a rarety. The problem with the negative stuff is not so much what they are being negative about. I suspect most people agree with some of the negativity to some extent. I certainly feel the game is still not ready to be called GA. The problem is with the manner of the negativity. FD simply ignore it. Sandro has said multiple times that he just ignores rants, and who can blame him.

There are a lot of good things about this game too, which is personally why I am sticking around and have not uninstalled. If something extraordinarily good suddenly pops into the game trust me I will make a praise thread about it :) I played last night and was interdicted...there was a human pilot there for the first time in a long long time, which was a good thing as I have been getting interdicted by nobody for ages and it was becoming really frustrating :) See positivity right there !

The people are simply in search of the life and the dynamism in the galaxy. ED would be a marvelous place, if the galaxy swarmed of life

I thought that one of the goals for ED is to have FPS?

Could be it's out of date, or all a ruse to draw in backers. But if that list of future expansions is to be believed this game is going to another star Citizen. That list is basically everything those who are happy with the game do not want for ED.

So for OP, don't worry fella, if they add all that stuff, those who are classed as haters might get the game they are asking for.

Id be interested to see how many of the uninstallers and quiting the game types are back playing in 3 months, how many have moved onto other spacey type games and how many simply decide to get outside and enjoy something called fresh air. The venting is giving ED a bad name, bad press, but they seem to be happy enough to allow the venting to occour and so be it, though i would like to see those quitting letting us know in a bit of detail what might bring them back in terms of game improvements

Fair enough but hijacking unrelated threads and spamming the forum with the same stuff every 10 minutes is a bit out of order.

The OP's point if fair enough and these forums are EXACTLY the place for him to express it, if you do not want to read it then dont read it :) The point about it being 'another' thread is also fair enough, but its HIS thread and you could have let it sink without adding your opinion to it and keeeping it alive. If you do feel strongly it should be closed or merged, why not simply let a mod know that?

Biggest gaming disappointment for me was X Rebirth. But I looked at the rage in the forums and thought "you know what? I think Egosoft are probably aware that some people dont like their game" Then I stopped posting. I still have a look in now and again to see whats changed but since any point I might have wanted to make had already been made a hundred times there really was no point repeating any of them. To do so would just make me look like another attention seeking self righteous

The game is not missing, it's pretty much the same as the original Elite. The lack of a story/endgame or whatever is what people liked about it.

It's missing some features that were supposed to be there but development hasn't finished and no one is claiming it is finished

I think it is naive to ignore any feedback on your creative works. All feedback so long as it is constructive should be taken on board.

Exactly. Opinions MUST be heard. If they're tired reworks of the same old garbage, then they're a waste of forum time and space, and others become immune to them. As I've said before, so long as people are here and complaining, it at least means that they're expressing an interest in Elite. If they were off playing GTAV on their XBOX ones or PS4s, we wouldn't have the discussions and rants. People like me who understand the depth of effort required to develop complex software will accept that Elite isn't even as complex as a game in some ways as Frontier was, despite many more detailed aspects of the engine. Maybe FD should have kept the game in Gamma for 6 months more, but it's a dynamic thing. It doesn't appeal to the AAA+ class gamer in same way as GTA. We're part of it in a way that very, very few other games have. Let's talk about the faults, anticipate the future, and enjoy the fact that the ED Community IS a community. We'll fight. We'll hug. We'll agree to disagree. But only because of what we have in common.

Sure you do buddy but keep in mind that theres an other side enjoying the game and they're likely a silent majority.

There is group think on both sides. Do you think that people who were very enthusiastic before launch are easily admitting their disappointment? They invested so much into pre-liking the game with their pre-order that to go back on that is tough. Cognitive dissonance.

I am in no camp. But I do not play Elite as much as I expected I would. It is a bare-bone game, much like the original Elite. It does not seem to entice me to come back to it. It is too empty. I get the impression Braben's love for astronomy is what drove it, not actual gameplay.

Perhaps it will improve in the future. Perhaps I have changed too. I seem to like games that are goal oriented more than I used to.

I uninstalled it. I did so as I found its short comings to be more than superficial. Though I did so with the full hope that Fdev might eventually flesh out the game part..... It does not encourage me though when I hear that work is being done on a FPS aspect of the game, when the rest of the basics are not present. Planet landings would be great... but should have been in the game from get go... It's more a case though of a deep feeling when playing Elite that there is no real progression, no strings of story telling to grasp onto. I'm not saying we should have a linear story to follow... rather using something akin to Skyrims story engine side quests, that engage you, make you care. Above all I would agree that the complete lifelessness of ED makes it feel clinical and unendearing. So I chose to uninstall and frequent this forum to see what and when this stuff happens.

People do say that like it's a fact and, to a degree, I'm sure it is - forum membership will always be a minority compared to the numbers playing the game. What I'm really curious about is what level of the "silent majority" are actually silently walking away from the game, no forums comments, as this is a far more important number.
