Unfair punishment

Read back through what you've just said. Spot where you've swapped a word with a specific meaning out for a completely different word with a different meaning. Swap the correct word and meaning back in. That should make what actually happened to you, and why, much much clearer.
Please, stop baby me... I am not going to read anything again, and TBH not going to comment in this thread again. I agree with OP, combat is overrated for what it is. It is very easy to loose a lot by making a single mistake... ED is full of punishing mechanics and trying to cover this with all this "smart wording" is not going to change that...

I never got a bounty (or just a fine) for hitting an instalation, just the annoyance of it firing missiles at me endlessly (to no effect)

What do you need to do to get a bounty with a mega ship?

That is precisely what I was trying to do. Run away, pay the fine and get back to RES site. Did not work that way... So whatever fancy words ppl will try to use to disagree with me I don't care. I made a mistake but never got a chance to fix it, simple as that...

Well sorry man - I have obviously missed your previous post. I was simply responding to what I quoted, I don't know the rest of your gaming career!

I tried to explain the system in a very generic way, which I think I managed. I didn't tell you what to do or what you should have done. You looked confused by what you wrote, so I tried to explain it as clearly as possible for you, but for others as well. If I've missed something please explain if you want some help??

I'm certainly not trying to be awkward or smarmy by taking the time to write out a reply like that! Wasn't trying to up your blood dude!?

Give it more than a glancing blow mate. You'll get them shoot at you if you wing them with a turret or similar, then a fine if more. Even more and a bounty arrives. And you get wanted.

As you've found, it comes down to trigger discipline and awareness again, I play around these things a lot and they are good fun!

If I don't come away (or be forced to run away!) from a megaship scenario with a bounty I feel cheated...

You didn't just make a single mistake. You made multiple.

One of those mistakes was to take a word (which has a specific meaning) and treat it as though it was a different word with a completely different meaning.

If they say one word but you treat it as though they've said a completely different word, and then you undertake actions according to the word you have chosen instead of according to the word they used, and those actions result in consequences you are unhappy about, then the fault for those is with you.

That mistake is completely within your power to fix. You can fix it yourself, understand what happened, and have a better game experience as a result.

Or instead you can try and shift responsibility for that mistake elsewhere, fruitlessly and moan about it on the forums, and have a worse game experience. It's your choice.

Probably said already but you did not save anything, at least not according to the game. Had you saved anything, the game would have rewarded you for the save instead of just giving you the bounty reward.

I don't think I've encountered an instance in a mission or other where saving another ship was required to gain Cr. Maybe in a CZ, not sure.

If they kept a ledger on saves vs kills of innocents, I'd probably be in the red. I've killed thousands of tourists ships. Game doesn't care about good or bad, only about the law. If the system isn't anarchy, you're going to incur a fine for shooting a ship that isn't wanted. You might even follow a ship from an anarchy system that had just killed thousands of tourists, and then kill it in a civilized system, and you'll be the criminal. Legality, not ethics.

When you get fined for accidental friendly fire you say "Fine, have it your way." and blow up every ship in the area.
Then you go after the cops, and you just hope for those 4 gestapo ships to come looking for you.

We are still talking about a world where loitering is a crime punishable by death right? Seems fair to me; it’s a harsh and slightly tongue-in-cheek future out there!
When I first started, this is how I learned about that. Started the undocking process, forgot I needed something, hit "Pause". Went to go read something. ( a few minutes later ).......I hear something, it dont sound good. Alt tab back just in time to see a wonderful exciting ship explosion.

So, in case anyone reading this doesnt know....hitting pause only pauses the screen and that is all it does. Everything else in the world continues on without your presence. You have been warned! Dont loiter intentionally or otherwise. The punishment is death to your ship and its goodies. You however will be coming to the forum to find out what happened and maybe you will find this post. :)
