Encoded Emissions
Conditions: Any area of populated system
Threat level 0

and here we are, encoded emissions in a non-populated system, not really deep space, but 109.87 ly from the next populated system:

2. HGE types

Described as follows: "Material" - "Conditions"

Core Dynamics Composites, Proprietary Composites - Federation-aligned system

Imperial Shielding - Empire-aligned system

Improvised Components - System in Civil Unrest state

Military Grade Alloys, Military Supercapacitors - System in War or Civil War state

I've seen it suggested that which of these you get depends on the superpower-alignment of the controlling faction at war. I haven't done enough testing to know if that's accurate, but I can say I was searching for Military Grade Alloys for a LONG time, and only found some when someone suggested the controlling faction at war had to be Independent for Military Grade Alloys.

p.s. great guide! Very much appreciated!

MGAs and MSCs do not depend on superpower alignment. However, it seems that sometimes one prevail over another - one system can give you only MGAs, other gives only MSCs, and some give both equally. Some say anarchies have a higher chance to drop MSCs. I wish FD did the same thing they did with Federal composites - one HGE gives you both.

Thanks for the great write up! Rep++

It is possible to "farm" USS.

That is, III. General information about USS 1. USS can appear only during supercruise flight. They appear randomly, there is no known way to force-spawn them. is not correct. I collected many USSes from the Farseer system, by traveling back and forth between the innermost planets.

Here's my previous post: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?p=5046237&viewfull=1#post5046237

Here's an excerpt:

I gathered plenty of Chemical Manipulators in the Deciat system, from Unknown Signal Sources, specifically Combat Aftermath Detected ones. These are easily farmed.

Travel back and forth between the 1st and 2nd planets, scanning every USS you see. 2-4 will spawn for each one-way trip (of about 50 ls). Fly a little past the destination planet for the last USS to spawn. Sometimes I also shuttled between planet 1 and 4 or 2 and 4, depending on which was closer.

About 1/4 of those USSes will be a Combat Aftermath and about 1/3 of those will yield a Chemical Manipulator and occasionally, you'll get 2. Enter normal space if you see a Combat Aftermath. Use your left UI panel (3rd tab) to quickly identify the available materials. I typically gathered about 16 Chemical Manipulators in under 2 hours.

Just want to make a correction.

You list the Unknown Probe as appearing in "Anomaly Detected" USS around Ammonia Planets. It actually appears in a Threat 2 "Degraded Emissions" USS.

The change in USS name for the Unknown Probe isn't something to get excited about

Just an important point, otherwise people will be ignoring potential UP USS. They're already a pain enough to wait for...

EDIT: One other thing but much more minor, you mention "Anomaly Detected" is threat 1-4. To date (happy to be corrected with some examples) only Threat 4 Anomaly USS have been found, which contain Unknown Artefacts.

Hmm, interesting. Judging by MB's answer, this may be a bug. I'll add it to Degraded Emissions description, though.

As for Anomaly threat level, I simply can't remember (last time I went hunting for those was in 2.1.04, when I needed 25 UFs for Palin).

Fantastic guide, especially part VII and VI. Thanks for that!

Finally got some Imperial shielding and this makes me a very happy man.

Great! But Sol (Earth's star) and SoI look identical. You may want to change to "SOI". It's a bit hard to read in those parts. Thanks tho.

high grade are insane grind. I am looing two hours (in proper system) and nothing. Totally mindless gameplay . Flying around and doing completely nothing. Looking internet on second screen and wait for spawn, with sometimes ship moves.

In my opinion it need a bit of balance in time-to-spawn.

Piece of advice.. When looking for high grade I find going out into deep space in a system 5000-7000ls from the star above or below the orbit plane yields the best results. I got 45 pharmaceutical isolators that way in a very short time among other things when need high grade

You don't need to get that far - 500+ Ls is usually more than enough.

Oh, and HGE hunting may yield better results in single-star system - no risk of flying into barycenter(s) SoI.

"1. USS can appear only during supercruise flight. They appear randomly, there is no known way to force-spawn them."

Actually, for me at least, every time I get close to my destination, a USS shows up. It doesn't matter what I am getting close to (except in OC.) I have even come up on a USS and had another appear right next to/near it! Stations are the same way.

Great guide!
