Unique buildings construction.

With the exciting prospect of building our own stations and settlements on the horizon, I propose adding new, unique player-created structures to the game - immersive, customizable buildings that not only deepen gameplay but also expand the universe of Odyssey in exciting ways.

One specific idea I’d like to present is the introduction of ship home-showrooms, a feature reminiscent of the iconic IAE exhibition in SC.

What is a ship home-showroom, and why is it worth adding?

Imagine constructing a personalized base of operations - a place to call your own, where you can showcase your achievements and the ships that define your journey. These showrooms wouldn’t just be for you; they could become social hubs for other commanders to visit, admire your fleet, and share in the collective storytelling of Elite’s expansive universe.

Why does this matter for players?

For many, the endgame in Elite isn’t just about new horizons - it’s about leaving your mark on the galaxy. Building bases and expanding habitable space represents the pinnacle of achievement for dedicated commanders. By introducing structures like ship showrooms, we give players an opportunity to:

  • Claim their own space in the galaxy, a true home among the stars.
  • Showcase their accomplishments and favorite ships in a setting worthy of their efforts.
  • Pursue new goals and milestones, adding depth and meaning to their exploration and play.

How does this benefit developers?

For developers, this feature offers both creative and practical opportunities:
  • Expand the content and engagement in Odyssey, giving players compelling reasons to invest more time and emotion into the game.
  • Open up new avenues for paid customization - from bespoke color schemes to unique showroom designs, enabling players to craft spaces as unique as their journeys.
This concept not only enriches the player experience but also enhances the world of Elite, bringing commanders closer to their ships, their achievements, and their place in the galaxy. Let’s take another step toward making the universe of Elite as personal and inspiring as the stories we create within it.

Maybe I just dreamt this, maybe I went there, I can’t quite remember. Isn’t there somewhere in-game that has a ship museum?

I’m sure I remember squinting through a dome looking at an Eagle and a Cobra sitting nicely in a planet port somewhere.

Perhaps I dozed off in VR when out in the Black.

Hopefully someone else has been there?

I think there is one on one of the Outposts, I have been to the outpost several times but never remembered to look for the museum until I had jumped out again.

There's a specific outpost that has a glass ceiling that you can see a bunch of ships in it. I took it to be a showroom, but it could also be a museum. It's one of the areas I wish Frontier would convert to an Odyssey space where we could actually walk around them, or even be the onfoot ship showroom.

Maybe it was an Outpost, I really can’t remember as it was some years ago but it was a cool little feature to visit. An Odyssey version to mooch about in would be a great addition - though I’m assuming bug fixing and other ‘content’ would be preferred by most?!

Now I should keep quiet about seeming to have a memory of visiting a zoo or nature reserve in a dome somewhere too…but that could really be a fever dream (or another Frontier game entirely:unsure::))

Lots of surface starports have glass domed buildings that have parks in them :)

Yeah, I just can’t think of the one I had in mind. It was one of Paige’s favourite locations (Community Manager from a few years back) and I remember heading there after seeing it on a stream.

I don’t know if it was a special Easter Egg type location or just a cool location. Possibly gone now with the launch of Odyssey anyway.
