Aaah, guys, take a listen to the "Music of the Spheres" soundtrack on the link posted above - is it just me or does that sound UA-ish as well? Edit: and could some of what we think are "whale" sounds on the UA actually be the Elephant track?

the private group that they are hunting in is Mobius.

The only issue is that we don't have control of invites for mobius, if we had a private group for UA hunters and reasearchers I'd be willing to set one up :) i bought another account during the steam sale just in case I'd ever need to set up a private group.

as for the tinfoil hat, I had flirted with the idea of making 50 tinfoil hats and sending them out in the mail ;) if this is something that people are actually interested in, and they trust me enough to give me a mailing address, I will actually buy high quality tinfoil and make some of these:

Anyway, my turn to post a pic:

Zenith's audio was the cleanest. It might depend on the angle (which one I don't know, the camera's? the ship's?), hence a feeling of having different purrs. Probably because when one is having a purr, the other one is having the sound of a canister (morse?). The howling sounds also contain purrs, which leads me to think that we may have to throw more than five containers at it to "clean" them. The howling can probably also be "decoded" through the use of another type of canister.

I hope it was interesting. CMDR Popov out.

tl;dr: Some purrs are absolutely identical.

EDIT: One detail for those interested - my sample starts at 1m29s on Zenith's video and stops at "Nyeah, I'll do it" on both videos. I took it as a reference to sync them up. They're not PERFECTLY synced as I wanted people to notice, if I am to upload the audio.

To get a proper tinfol hat you need to buy the rare Timocani tinfoil wrapped biscuits and DIY. No self respecting paranoid would accept a tinfoil hat made by someone else.

The answer to the unknown artefact is very very simple.

So simple in fact that I fear every other CMDR has been over analysing it.

I've recently acquired a UA and in my assessment what it is emanating are the words "4" and "2", with a gap in the middle filled with what appears to be "T" "O" "W" "E" "L"

Right, so I've given it some algae and hydrogen fuel. You can guess the results. Although in the latter case, there's a little weird sound when I'm closing in on it for the first time. Doesn't seem to repeat later.
(however my ears are pretty much used up by participating in various heavy metal concerts in the past so... don't believe me)

Some new ideas coming out, new tests, new thinking. Great stuff people.

So Operation Biscuit Barrel was a success: there is another UA being prodded and stared at right now. Well done to everyone taking part, especially those that caught and kept it safe initially. Please do lots of SCIENCE^tm on it, however crackpot. I like the continuing 'long jump' tests and ideas, that's a really great Wings and in-game direction. Maybe one is needed at either end. (Or three)

Thank you to Nicholas Powell for taking the trouble to suggest and then organise this successful event. It's been great fun, and with Derthek's timely help in letting us all know who each other are under the auspices of Arcannon's group, made all the easier.

To borrow from Nilreb, 'We salute you!'

Ok, Just bought an Orca tried listening and recorded some Vid no difference, got it in the Orca nothing changed, Modules still eroded same rate.
So hit it with a mining laser ! made no difference to start with no effect, then damage dropped from 56% to 14% in a heart beat, so stopped and recollected it.

So off line now till tomorrow night.. Any ideas for testing welcome !!! UA currently tucked in our Anaconda and parked in a station.

So a suggestion, I don't know if this has been tried? (keeping it simple)

The UA is carried by a convoy, the UA starts to eat its way out.

During this time the convoy crew are ACUTELY aware of the presence of the UA, they don't stop talking about it in one way or another, "glitches", "promotion for bring this home", "UA UA UA" etc...

The convoy seems to circle about aimlessly, you can follow it jump after jump. Almost like a "holding pattern" an airplane wanting to land but cant because it's not yet able to access the runway.

So what happens when the UA eventually drops of its own accord, no pew pew, just eats its way out?

As I say the convoy is acutely aware of its presence, when it drops (and it is inevitable it will) the pilots must surely be aware of this.

At this point surely something must change? Most likely their chatter changes, they simply cannot go on complaining about glitches getting worse.

Has the UA ever been take to this point? Do we know what's then said if anything?

Could it be as simple as :

"OOOH THE THARGOID PROBE FELL OUT!"

Job done, mystery solved!


(or possibly the convpoy goes onto to its destination, you follow with the recovered item and those who were going to promote the convoy are ternally greateful - TEH END)

A lot of stuff like the mining laser etc. have already been tried I think. Take a read through the wiki, may save you from duplicating some tests. http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Unknown_Artefact Although it may not be greatly up to date in places.
