UNKNOWN ARTIFACT: Signal Fomat Decrypted?

I did quite a lot of transcribing earlier and also found a lot of 6 bit sequences. Unfortunately I don't have it to hand right now to check against yours. Looking at a spectrogram confirmed there were no additional bits I missed in those short sequences although the there were some where the first and last notes were very quiet or seemed to be cut off.

i did find a number of commonly repeating sequences, especially in the 6 bit segments. I am hoping this is not just coincidence, but it may be. If there is a header or a separator this would be a great find. More recordings are needed, but that is not meaning to pressure you as what you've done so far is great!

i am interested to know more about the circumstances of the recording. Are they from the point the UAs are dropped? Is there any specific trigger to end the recordings? I'm curious as the start always seems a little different to the rest.

Interestingly, no matter how long it was between me jettisoning the UA and catching up close enough to hear it, it never seemed like it was in the middle of a sequence when it started; at least, not to me. That seems to indicate that proximity starts the song...

Hey,

forgive me for my ignorance on these things.
I just wanted to ask, if the UA was transmiting radio would that make any difference? (dual-frequency microwave radio signal source)
Does that change how it's decoded?
I really feel stupid asking such a thing but ah well. I'm just exploring some avenues.

I've been working on the possibility that the groups of seven are two's complement signed binary, with each group of three numbers being added together (with certain multipliers for each number) to produce a three piece coordinate system.

No luck there though, at least not if the coordinates are (x,z,y) from Sol.

So you are confident you're starting recording at the beginning of the sequence?

Does it stop or loop?

Heading home now. Will slap it in my audio software and see if I can shed any more light on things. or more likely, add to the confusion.

I agree that binary makes sense. And I don't think FD would make things too "alien". If there is a code, they want us to cracking it. Coordinates on the map is an obvious candidate, but the numbers from grouping into 3 are too big.

For what it's worth, the "header" numbers taken to be 3 and 36-

Inverting tones for 0 and 1 gives 4 and 27.
Reading binary backwards gives 6 and 9
Inverting tones and reading backwards gives 1 and 54.

I can't see any relevance to the rest of the sequence based only on that.

So you are confident you're starting recording at the beginning of the sequence?

Does it stop or loop?

I'm as confident as I can be without further experimentation (eg getting enough recordings that I only see sequences I've already seen, then staying away from it until it hits 50% integrity before approaching to hear it, for example).

What I am pretty sure about is that I'm missing an entry from the end of every loop - I'm trying to keep this thing alive, so I haven't let it go below 9% before scooping it again.

Did no one watch Contact?

Obviously it has to do with prime numbers.
And the Olympic Games.
And schematics for building a machine.

And when one of us becomes the chosen one to go into it, we'll all meet...

More Proof that Math can not explain the Natural World. But it can be really fun.

Umm...that's exactly what math does!

How is it possible that mathematics, a product of human thought that is independent of experience, fits so excellently the objects of reality?

After seeing these numbers I decided to do a little digging ...

It turns out that the Thargoids made contact with humans much earlier than previously thought. Scholars have long thought that the “Ships of Tarshish” mentioned in the bible were infact -
Thargoid scout ships !

The first clue for this was the number 3 in binary which correlates to the visits every 3 years by the ships of Tarshish (2 Chronicles 9:21). It is at this time in human history when protection against the “'Evil Eye” is first documented. One of the many methods of protecting against the Evil Eye was the construction of Magic Squares.

While we can't be sure that the association of the Evil Eye and dealing with Thargoid artifacts is accurate – it is possible that the deleterious effects of the artifacts was interpreted as having been cursed with the Evil Eye. Hence of course 36 … the 1-36 magic square which when summed horizontally or vertically is 6x111 or 666. Need I say more …. ok I will.

The Breastplate of Aaron (Exod xxviii 17-20) Is a magical square of precious stones which were “no doubt, intended to avert the attacks of the evil spirits from the high priest” (Budge, Amulets and Talismans 1961:327) On this particular talisman is a stone of Tarshish. Each of the stones was also inscribed with one of the 12 tribes – it is believed that the stone of Tarshish was inscribed with that of Asher. Asher was one of the tribes chosen to stand on Mount Ebal and pronounce curses (Deuteronomy 27:13) such as:

Cursed is the man who leads the blind astry on the road ... (Deuteronomy 27:18)

Have you tried anything other than English? Korean (which is a highly mathematical written language) or Chinese for example? (since you mentioned special characters and seemingly garbage data, if it wasnt encoded into romanic characters, it may make more sense)

I speak fluent Japanese, but have a working knowledge of Korean...I'm curious and have to ask - how is it "highly mathematical"? Thanks!

Ask yourselves "IF an insectoid race (such as the Thargoids) were to evolve enough to develop their own mathematics, what would their natural choice of numerical base be?"

Personally, I'd answer "Insectoid infers they have six limbs. It may be a good assumption that they may use base 6 as their numerical base."

Or perhaps they use base 12 (assuming two appendages per limb).

Or perhaps they use base 18 (assuming 3 appendages per limb).

So perhaps this data you think you've collected is encoded using a base divisible by 6, if that makes any sense.

Or it could be FDEV just made the alien artefact sound kind of cool, and are all laughing at us. But that's just cynical old me talking ;)

But (notwithstanding graphical limitations in 1984) their ships are 8-sided. Or perhaps 10 if you count the top and bottom, so they're both a good possibility.

So sacrificing this thing may be the only way of retrieving the rest of the "message"?
Or it may mean just hearing a bit more meaningless creepy space noise?
Or maybe something else happens?

Awesome.

i'm going to laugh so hard when it's discovered that there is no message, it's just procedurally generated content.

Maybe. But even if there's nothing to it, perhaps FD will follow people's attempts to find meaning in it and consider there's a place for something requiring a little thought in this game.

You know. I took the "long recording" from the repository of recordings and spent a good few hours spectrally subtracting all but the "binary" tones and a lot more cleanup stuff and something I noticed from the resulting waveforms and sound result was that the binary tones seem to carry on, layered throughout the "screaching" components at the start/end of each phrase. the silence at the beginning of each phase seems to simply be coming from a long release compression effect applied to the binary elements after each screech (basic ducking). I feel this because, when cleaned, you can often times hear a very quiet high or low ( a signature and often used technique in sound engineering giving that well known ducking sound) "in the gap", maintaining the cyclic flow of the sequence. These two elements combined has given me a very different insight into the true nature of the audio.

It is especially noticable at certain points in the audio, it is quite evident that a high or low begins fractionally before or after the "screech" and plays through it layered. This is aside from the unique low frequency growl component that the screech has. Several times both growl components can be heard at the same time. This leads me to think that the audio is in fact a syncopating layering of 3 different main sequence sounds (not including the superfluous whistling and other high frequency content I removed) and are not in fact relating to anything meaningful and any pattern found is entirely coincidental.

After long deliberation and critical listening, this sadly seems to be the most plausible answer to me. There are 3 distinct layers running cyclically. If this was intended to be a binary (or otherwise) message encoded in audio, FDEV would be crazy to obscure parts of that string so heavily under the other meaningless aspects of the audio. not to mention the proposed 'breaks' lose their meaning under this discovery as the high and low sounds appear to in fact be looping constantly throughout the sample (before the master wave interpretation - re: processing)

If anyone is interested I have uploaded the audio to my sound cloud. Download it and take a look/listen for yourself. You'll notice what I'm talking about if you take the time to spot the places where this relationship is legible enough to observe.

Disclaimer: I could be completely wrong, please prove me so! But I thought I should share this with the community. (I think MBs comment was quite probably just referring to it having a cool sound)

Thats fact that it exists, is a message. The audio may turn out to be irrelevant, but the fact it was out there and found, means something
