i never heard or seen any unknown artefact in the game, but props to those who found it with pictures really...

now it emits wave frequency , andconverted to bytes it mades amessage ? wow lol.

could it be a messaegiving a ingame location ? and why would it be so ?

the way the code is made, it seems it could be a sort of X,Y, and Z table, giving the coordinates for each.

but why would the thargoids give their location ? it might more have to be a written message maybe

It's all on my server:

http://www.digitalscream.org.uk/audio

The first one (unknown_artifact_audio.mp3) is just the audio from my video that PC Gamer picked up - it's useless, because I recorded it before I realised that we needed the extended sequence; therefore, it's only a partial with five entries. The others are more complete.
Cheers buddy.

Just listening to the unknown_artifact_audio_long-200pct.wav from the reddit page now though... Is it a joke? I can't help but laugh. To me it sounds like someone farting away on a trumpet. :D Anyway I'll checkout yours next.

Of course, everybody's assuming that it's the Thargoids. There's no evidence for this...and, if the comments are to be believed (ie we won the the greatest war our species has ever seen by the skin of our teeth, but the Thargoids are just wondering where their scouting party went) then it's likely that we'd need allies in order to survive. This could just as easily be a set up for that :)

Yeah, I'm thinking, I'm thinking...

Okay here's a question: If it is binary or whatever, how do we know it's the complete cycle?

ed_audio.png

The recording is 12-ish minutes long and has about 21 groups of pulses. Are we sure that's the whole thing? Does it repeat? Start/end? Was the recording long enough? etc.

Elite is not aimed at the every day gamer its aimed at the intellects , the space explores , the thinkers...

Ive had a listen at 3x and i get 35 tones, I assigned the higer pitch to 1 and lower pitch to 0 and get :)

10101101 = 173
00101110 = 46
01101011 = 107
00110101 = 53
101 = 5

I was hoping to be able to split it into co-ordinates but its not even numbers when split into 3 for X, Y, Z!

It cant be split into 8 bit, 16bit or 32 bit evenly so are we sure its even binary?

When i split the tones by the gaps in the audio i get:

10101101 = 173
001011 = 11
1001101 = 77
0110011 = 51
0101101 = 45

Which still is too many numbers to make into co-ordinates...

Im probably way off, havent even attempted binary since i was in sixth form back in 1999!

I even tried using the http://www.stellar-database.com/ and taking the first three numbers for Co-Ordinates and the last to for Declination.... Came up with nothing......

Im off back to drawing pictures with my crayons :(

What's it say if we assume Morse code rather than binary?

If we're talking alien message, it seems unlikely they would be using a code-language invented on earth. If that were the case, why not just leave the message in french?
Think about "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Contact."

Still, in those films the aliens were attempting to communicate with earthlings and so created messages with simple mathematical forms to demonstrate their intelligence or command of math (the language of the universe). Could be this isn't a message intended for us at all, in which case beacons like repeating primes might not be in it at all.

This is so cool!

Hoping to get home and properly get on with analysing this - I'm sure there must be something we're overlooking. They had to drop the hint about listening to the artefacts in the first place, the message shouldn't be that difficult to work out.

From the movie "Contact" an audio signal with visual representation of a cube with plans - could it be an image of some kind if we can work out how many per columns/row ?
From Stargate a universal language based on elements (atomic weight)
From Stargate a set of dialling co-ordinates and a start location
or.... It's a message from Omicron Perseii 8 asking for the final episode of "Single Female Lawyer" .... sorry couldn't resist.

Just trying to throw some different ideas out there in case were stuck on the wrong tangent

We really need to know above all else if it's the whole recording. If you look at this image, you'll see that the pulses trail off at the beginning and end, and are interrupted in the middle by the cargo scoop. I'd say the message isn't even complete with no distinct beginning or end - rendering the data worthless. We really need feedback on this from the person who made it or a recording so long that it starts to repeat.

I was thinking it was something to do with Close Encounters of the Third Kind:

So, the things I noticed was that the "pips" come at two different frequencies, high and low, but they come at a distinct interval, separated by pauses.
The "pips" were in groups of 7, but one of the groups only had 6.
The "poops" are syncopated with the "pips" and don't match up.

Are the "poops" coming at equal intervals as well, like the "pips"?
What is the ratio of the speed of the two sounds?
What is the frequency difference between the two 'pips'?

Is the 200% speed recording I heard on PCGamer the full recording we have?
