Unlocking THE DWELLER

Same here. I'm stuck on 1/5. Not recognising anything. Been trying for days. Tried everything. Sold 1 unit nothing, accepted mission and abandoned (wouldn't let me sell to local BM so went to another port nothing)

Even tried selling 20 slaves and nothing.

Logged a bug report yet to hear back. It's holding me back on my next engineer

Greetings!

Does anybody know, if there is a problem unlocking The Dweller?

I´ve been selling illegal goods(yes they were illegal at the different locations) to several black markets so far....nothing happening on the progress bar.

Don´t know what to do now...

Thank you
Qglfang

I had the same problem. Everytime you sell something at a black market you must log out and back in. You will see the progress.

I'm wondering if the amount of money you make on a sale in the black market also has something to do with whether it counts towards the Dweller's unlock. I had 10 tonnes of stolen Biowaste (picked up from abandoned mission in a different system) that I sold at 5 black markets (2 at each) and 3 paid me 12 Cr. each while the other 2 only paid me 6 Cr. When I checked the progress for the Dweller after all the sales I only had 3/5. I had to take another mission to deliver 18 tonnes of clothing, abandon it and then go sell the clothes at 2 black markets (9 tonnes at each) before the unlock requirements were met

NOTE: I also had to Save and Exit after each sale for it to be recognised

Had the same problem some time ago, after selling at 5 new black markets it wouldn’t update. Another thread said that you should just go to the Dweller anyways. I did this and even though it hadn’t updated on the engineers menu, I still had the option to pay the ½mil cr (I did have to re-log at the Dweller thoug after arriving). Done

‘Til now, none of the engineers have had updated ‘quest logs’ for me...

It was bugged for me. After trying more selling I contacted the help desk on Twitter. A few conversations confirming details of what steps I had taken and they obviously can check the statistics they manually unlocked him for me

I have the PS black market trophy, yet 0 black markets credited under the respective engineer tab on my right UI panel.
That seems to suggest something is amiss.

Same with me. I have the Trophy but despite having sold to BMs about 10 times I still have 0/5 in the engineer panel.

I had the same issue with the dweller not registering my black market transactions, the only thing I found to force it to work was go to station with black market and take a mission transporting something then abandon the mission and sell the goods in the black market. Often it only recorded 1 out of 4 of the sales. But I got it done in one night doing this after trying for a week solid.

Reads fine.

I did a few slum black market sells (grab a low fine mission, abandon, pay fine, sell goods on black market). Still 0/5 even after restarting.

I hope you are going to a different station then the one you grabbed it from to sell to the black market. It doesnt count if you sell it to the same station.

I'm not sure if it works if you take a mission, abandon it, and sell the goods on the black market, but I do know for sure you need to sell to 5 different black markets.

It's entirely possible as well, that after selling to 5 different black markets, it won't look updated in the engineers screen but if you manually go to him it may work.

I haven't tested this yet, but just throwing some beans in the pot.

I unlocked the dweller some time ago and all salvage at that time was illegal anyway. All you needed to do was get 5 illegal canisters off a planet, or a wreck in space, and sell one unit at 5 different markets. But you did have to log off and back on to get the board to register you had done it.

It's got to be a different station to the one where you sell the good you just stole off the mission giver.

This was how I did it.
I didn't even abandon the mission until after I'd sold the inventory.
Easy peasy.

*It didn't work when I sold illicit goods, only stolen.
That's despite getting the black market trophy too.

Fastest way to unlock the Dweller:

1. Make sure you have cargo racks equipped on your ship, around 50 to 100 slots (as low as 4 is possible but slower to unlock)
2. Go to EDDB
3. Type in your reference system + facilities: Black Market
4. Select the station that has both a short arrival distance + short LY distance (to get their faster) + check if prices were updated recently (otherwise it could be that another faction took over and the black market is not open for business)
5. Once arrived at the station:

A: Accept all delivery missions that provide you with cargo items
B: Go to your transaction tab and abandon all missions that you just accepted
C: Now open Contacts > Black Market and sell all the cargo items since these will be listed in your cargo inventory as stolen
D: Pay the fines that you received for abandoning the missions (small fines, approx. 30 to 50K credits) (optional)
E: Check the engineer panel to see if you have progressed (shows as 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4,5, 5/5 depending on how many Black Markets you have successfully completed)

if progressed is No > accept a few more delivery missions and repeat steps A to E
if progressed is Yes > move to a new station with a black market and start with step 1

Took me less than 30min.

Good luck CMDR's

The cargo delivery missions you speak of are only available after you grind rep to friendly... in the systems I checked. If you have no rep, there's only:
- illegal missions,
- combat missions,
- data delivery missions and
- Industry Needs X units of Y missions
, where you have to go buy the crap...
They will not hand you any goods whatsoever...

Did you leave out, that you'd have to grind reputation with irrelevant pirate factions first, to destroy that rep shortly after, by abandoning their missions?

I have 3/5 black markets from accidental mishaps with illegal something or other, prior to 1.4 (when I quit playing till now) and none of those involved multiple items or transactions in order to count, but that must have been changed when Engineers got introduced to make it yet more grindy....

But I guess it was too much to ask FD to actually say you had to do some minimum number of goods or transactions...

To help here EDDB is a 3rd party tool on the internet if you are unfamiliar with it. There are really 2 easy ways to get the prerequisite number of black markets that youn need unlocked

1. Go to imperial space, found on your galaxy map. If you dont know how to do this just let me know. EDDB is really the best way to find the most profitable way. Buy imperial slaves, then travel to Archon Delaine space and sell them. Choose different BM each time and you will unlock enough to unlock The Dweller.

2. Go to a system. Use an interdictor, then pull an unsuspecting cargo hauler out of super cruise. Shoot them once, put all PIPs to shields, as they come about, launch hatch breakers. When the cargo drops, select it, launch collector, and open cargo hold. Once the cargo is on board, boost and super cruise away. Jump to a system with an available BM and sell your stolen goods.

Rinse and repeat until you have hit enough BM to unlock Todd. If number 2 was fun and interests you more, PM me for more advice!

Thanks much! That's useful advice for someone who never does anything illegal...
Well, I accidentally once hauled an Anaconda full of imp slaves to a station where they were illegal, after only checking for the highest selling price...

That was the first and only time I tried the 300ms mailslot rush in an Anaconda... When I hit the back wall, I had all pips to sys and only lost 2 rings.
My greatest worry had been the fat bottom of it hitching in the mailslot, that would have sucked. And yes, I did check if that station had a black market first.
Though littering the station with tons of crap is fun too, unless it was really expensive crap. I never did that again, although that was the most profitable slave run ever...

Anyway, I think I'll check EDDB for Anarchy systems with black markets next to a slave selling empire system... And thanks, I do use EDDB for everything Inara doesn't have...
