Unlocking THE DWELLER

Thanks much! That's useful advice for someone who never does anything illegal...
Well, I accidentally once hauled an Anaconda full of imp slaves to a station where they were illegal, after only checking for the highest selling price...

That was the first and only time I tried the 300ms mailslot rush in an Anaconda... When I hit the back wall, I had all pips to sys and only lost 2 rings.
My greatest worry had been the fat bottom of it hitching in the mailslot, that would have sucked. And yes, I did check if that station had a black market first.
Though littering the station with tons of crap is fun too, unless it was really expensive crap. I never did that again, although that was the most profitable slave run ever...

Anyway, I think I'll check EDDB for Anarchy systems with black markets next to a slave selling empire system... And thanks, I do use EDDB for everything Inara doesn't have...

You’re missing out if you aren’t trying the illegal options at your disposal. Lol

Otherwise you get it, go for it and support your local anarchy

I can confirm that:
- imp slaves sold in Archon Delain space work. LTT 9455 had two small stations with black markets and no mail slot or patrols. I sold 12 slaves to each, because someone suggested that a single item may not suffice to make it count. No idea if that's true or not.
- After relogging each time, my Black market count increased by one at each station.
- With my black markets traded count now properly listed at 5/5, The Dweller is still not unlocked.

I found posts as early as early 2017, complaining about this, but I guess FD hasn't looked into it...?

Or there's another work-around besides logging out and back in?

Board hop. It will load usually but it may takes a few tries of logging in and out or closing and opening the game to make it happen.

Finally got round to doing this over the last two days :) my advice.......

Search eddb.io for you nearest station selling tobacco then head there and buy 8.

Search eddb.io for fed systems with a black market and then sit in the galaxy map checking them BEFORE you set off as for some reason most will be disabled.

Head to the system and station you've chosen dock, sell and then check if it's registered.

This is the important part, if it hasn't quit to main menu and then reload and check again.

I spent Friday night doing this and only two registered despite visiting and selling at about six different systems :( spent an hour using the above method targeting outposts only and got three for three despite them not originally registering ;)

All three recent attempts didn't originally register until I'd reloaded for some reason and I think had I done that on Friday night they'd of all worked, strange bug tbh. :/

PS4 player here too.
For me it is not bugged.

Fastest way to unlock the Dweller:

1. Make sure you have cargo racks equipped on your ship, around 50 to 100 slots (as low as 4 is possible but slower to unlock)
2. Go to EDDB
3. Type in your reference system + facilities: Black Market
4. Select the station that has both a short arrival distance + short LY distance (to get their faster) + check if prices were updated recently (otherwise it could be that another faction took over and the black market is not open for business)
5. Once arrived at the station:

A: Accept all delivery missions that provide you with cargo items
B: Go to your transaction tab and abandon all missions that you just accepted
C: Now open Contacts > Black Market and sell all the cargo items since these will be listed in your cargo inventory as stolen
D: Pay the fines that you received for abandoning the missions (small fines, approx. 30 to 50K credits) (optional)
E: Check the engineer panel to see if you have progressed (shows as 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4,5, 5/5 depending on how many Black Markets you have successfully completed)

if progressed is No > accept a few more delivery missions and repeat steps A to E
if progressed is Yes > move to a new station with a black market and start with step 1

Took me less than 30min.

Good luck CMDR's

I tried that once and no good . I think it got nerfed. The station don't allow you to sell at same station

Just going to drop this here for those that are still stuck on this:

You need to use STOLEN goods, not illicit cargo.
Easy Steps:
1. Go to a station you care literally nothing for
2. Take their contracts
3. Abandon them
4. (Optional) Contemplate paying the fine or not
5. Travel to the next station/system with a Black Market
6. Sell some (not all!)
7. Panel will update once you dock at the next station/system, just repeat till finished.

Except Illicit Cargo does the work. How do I know? That’s how I accomplished it. I smuggled battle weapons and slaves for 4 of my BMs. You don’t have to accept a mission and then just ignore it to accomplish this task.

I unlocked the dweller with illicit (in fed systems) tobacco a week or two ago.

I posted the method on the previous page and it only took a couple of hours if that tbh.

How to unlock dweler:

Go to an anarchy system, kill a T6 / T7 / Keelback. Scoop 5 commdities from the killed ship, sell 1 item on this anarchy system, find more 4 anarchy systems with black market and sell your cargo... done

Any time and every time I've tried that, though there is only one ship and me on the radar. My first shot on him bring the cops. Now I've got a bounty for fireing on a clean ship, and one to three cops to deal with. Where do you find time to scoop, and avoid the cops at the same time?

An issue I discovered with stations failing to update having sold to their black markets, is that the game 'forgets' the illicit status of your cargo after moving from one system to another, or logging out/back in. (Even though it visually will still show the materials as stolen/etc)

What I did to ensure if re-registered the materials was exit super cruise into normal space somewhere near the station I wanted to sell an item to. I'd drop the cargo into space and scoop it back up, and that would restore the identifier on the materials. I'd immediately go back to the station to sell it and it would register correctly. Once all 5 sales were completed and updated correctly on the Engineer tracker, log out and log back in to force generate the contact invite from Dweller to get access.

It’s not numer of trades, it’s number of different black markets you traded with. You could do 100 trades in the same black market, but it would still count 1 for unlocking The Dweller.
The point is expanding your black market network, not selling a heap of stolen/illegal goods.
