Unpopular animals special to you

A golden or other subspecies of takin would also be another choice I forgot to post.

Unfortunately, a lot of the animals I particularly like are quite niche and little-known which then translates to them not being very popular. I am particularly fond of the yellow-throated marten (a beautiful and very active marten which is also the biggest of the true martens), the Owston's civet (an endangered and richly-patterned small carnivore), the Indian spotted chevrotain (a tiny and rather pretty small ungulate, also called a mouse-deer), the ocellated turkey (one of the most colourful of all the larger birds) and any species of goose (some species may be aggressive, but many others are quite beautiful birds with big characters; I can never quite decide between the Egyptian, red-breasted or Hawaiian goose).

Looking at the 30 essential animals list, I am baffled by how low the fishing cat is on the list - they are kept all over the world (in zoos across Asia, Europe, North America and also one zoo each in Australia and New Zealand), are threatened and are one of the most unique cat species around, behaviour-wise. I was surprised to see that it had only been requested 4 times, because I think it would be my top choice for a small cat in the game.

The 2 animals on my list that I really want are the red wolf and gray fox.

Red Wolf: 1st of all, I saw a wolf-coyote hybrid once. That made my day. 2nd, they are critically endangered and there is a program to breed them back. Let's not forget Frontiers strategy at wolves: they add gray wolf subspecies, and the red wolf.is probably the best of all of them

Gray Fox: you say fox, people say "Arctic, Red, Fennec". But what about the Gray Fox? A the most colorful of all foxes (and my favorite animal tied with the thylacine), the Gray Fox can also climb trees. Imagine a canine in PZ that can climb trees. That'd be so much fun and a challenge to keep them enclosed

Anyway, I chose my list because many of those species are animals I've seen in the wild or have had a major impact on the environment. Wild Boar destroy the ecosystem; coyotes crossbreed with red wolves, "eliminating" the wolf subspecies; I've almost stepped on copperhead. So yeah, I have a special interest in these animals

They aren't a Grey Wolf Subspecies 😉

That's the same amount of votes as a jackal got. I guess the arctic wolf and dingo have soured people on more canaids. And jackals aren't even a wolf species.

Fishing cat would be neat to have. They really do need a small cat mold, though I think that will go to the lynx or possibly Ocelot.

As far as popularity goes, looking at that list, if we took all the animals and imagined they would all be equally easy to code and animate (and they won't be, but for the purpose of this statement alone), if frontier were to solely go by most requested animals, I'd imagine they would look no further than those who had at least 10 votes. That's 75ish animals to choose from right there, way more than I can imagine we'll get by the time the game wraps up.

This one does not have less than 5 requests (8 actually), but I'm still devastated that pelicans are not higher on the list. They are in my personal top 5, as I don't remember ever visiting a zoo that didn't have at least one species of pelican. They're also not small enough to be neglected and need a kind of habitat unlike other animals in game. They also have totally different behaviours from other animals, so I really don't understand why they're not requested more.

Mine would be, firstly, the emperor penguin. I'm eternally grateful for the king, but the emperor's status as my favorite animal in the world requires my constant pining. Most people would rather have one of the smaller species I've noticed.

Another one I don't see a lot of is the Siberian musk deer. Guys, these are the ones with vampire-looking fangs!

And finally, the aardwolf. I do love my canines, and look how precious they are:

a lot of great suggestions and I like y’all’s enthusiasm on your animals.
IMO I would like every canine species to be added and I think the red wolves status would help conservation credits
TheYeti, I am going to be making another post soon and pelicans inclusion will be included.
Tally the aardwolf looks great but ftr they are actually apart of the hyena family and hyenas are closer related to felines.

Oh, that's right. I completely forgot. Red wolf is Canis Rufus while the Gray Wolf is Canis Lupus.

My mistake

Well, not really. The debate around whether the red wolf is its own species, a grey wolf subspecies, or a hybrid between coyotes and wolves is still on-going - there's no specifically correct taxonomy for them.

For me it is always the hoofstock -
African wild ass (Equus africanus) as I think the game could use another equid species and they are critically endangered

I remember the addax and the oryx because of Zoo Tycoon 2

Well, let's just say it's a gray wolf subspecies. Because many wolves from Asia and North America are gray wolf subspecies. Why not the red wolf? Anyway, I still hope Frontier adds it. Maybe separate the already existing gray wolf into the different subspecies. Like, the basic gray can be the Eastern timber wolf, some can be Indian wolves, and so on

I want all of these. I have a feeling we'll end up getting either the addax or the oryx, though, not both.

Ya never know what frontier will decide to add. They may look at the highly requested animal list and then decide to pick a different species of an animal that either may be less requested or not even on our list while keeping mind on conservation status or range.

Several of the animals you have mentioned are very popular on the essential animal lists for the record

I know the perfect addition to a South American section that'll add a unique species and another animal that can climb:
20210301_120552~2.jpg

I love their Spanish name. It literally translates into: Prehensile-Tailed Spiky Pig

Sorry for the bad photo. I couldn't get the right angle without looking weird squatting in the middle of zoo
