Unpopular Opinions

The Duck Knight's Top 10 Hot/Mid/Cold Planet Zoo Takes:
  1. While I want walkthrough exhibits going further, I love traditional exhibit animals. Coming off the days of Zoo Tycoon 2 mods where you would have to build a humongous exhibit so the modded frogs and lizards and snake could interact with the enrichment and food items, they're a godsend.
  2. The pathing system requires a learning, but it ain't NOTHING compared to the transportation system. o_O o_O o_O
  3. I have no problems whatsoever with the lion (or warthog).
  4. For all this take of "weaker" updates as of late, the last three - education tours, flexicolor uniforms, animal sociality - VERY helpful when dealing with overpopulation, and the cinematic route mode, are some the best the game has offered.
  5. I really wish there was a feature that allowed water to remain clean without the use of a regulator in sandbox mode - much like the "Power Everything" option.
  6. A domestic pack would be a wonderful addition, especially if it allowed guests to pet and feed the animals.
  7. While it's a necessity for the flexicolor rocks, faux tress, and decor, I don't love the Aquatic Pack's animal roster. The King Penguin is a necessity, and I like the Diamondback Terrapin. But the Giant Otter is ugly af, the grey seal is okay (but I'd prefer a Harbor or the Sea Lion - but that's irrelevant since they came in North America) and apologies to the Caiman Crowd, but I could name half a dozen better reptilian choices than Cuiver's Dwarf.
  8. There should be twice as many tutorials to address the game's inherent learning curve, especially for younger players.
  9. Wishful thinking, but I hope a day comes where they'll be statues and signage of EVERY animal in the game in a uniform design.
  10. As the self-appointed Godfather of the Bird Mafia, I cannot fathom how anyone could be disappointed with the recent inclusion of the kiwi and little blue. Like, that borders on heresy for me.

Can’t see extinct species coming. For a multitude of reasons.

1, there’s PK and JWE2 for that
2, it’s supposed to be a real world zoo game
3, it’s aim is to educate about endangered species, not ones that have already gone extinct.
4, people want species they can connect to and have seen in they’re local zoos

Bottom line, I don’t want extinct animals and I don’t think we’re getting them. You can believe what you want but that is my opinion.

And on that note, new unpopular opinion:

I don’t get the argument that PZ can’t have an extinct pack because of JWE2 and Prehistoric Kingdom. Those games won’t include recent animals that went extinct, there’s no way they would introduce a Quagga in PK or Jwe2. As long as the species are similar to the animals we have in the game and not like big mammoths and wooly rhinos, I don’t see why we can’t expect some sort of “Legacy Pack” with Tasmanian Tiger, Quagga, and a couple other recently extinct animals.
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if PK adds recently extinct animals. After all, they've added animals like the Smilodon and Mammuthus, so a Thylacine and a dodo bird aren't impossible.
In fact, they may even want to add them in a future DLC, after the game is fully released

I agree recent being the key word i would say anything much older than the Tasmanian tiger or quagga would be too close to things in prehistoric kingdom but I would love to see things that went extinct in the last 50-100 years these would also fit much better into the themes of the game which is very conservation heavily and is mostly realistic. They could also be introduced as finally sighted individuals being saved from near extinction.

I don't think anyone seriously expects extinct animals is the thing.
I think it would be something a PZ2 would pick up on, but only animals that are recently extinct like Tasmanian Tiger and Quagga (wonder how many times I've said tasmanian tiger or quagga today, gotta be at least 100)

As much as I love the Thylacine (my logo has them, after all), I don't think I'd really want the Thylacine to come into the game, especially if it's from a very select few recently extinct species.
They'd feel very outta place

This Oceania DLC will be our last, Frontier just decided to end development as it bombed in terms of sales. Currently ranked #130 in Steam sales despite only being released 3 days ago... This is why they canceled the Content 16 and the anniversary folder.

On the other hand, PZ base game is ranked #26 thus showing you don't need DLCs to continue to earn profits from the game.

this has to be sarcasm no way it bombed that bad based on what the community is saying it is one of the most loved pack I would have believed this if it was the arid pack

Ok the information is accurate in terms of sales data the Oceania pack is 130th in the steamdb global current top sellers list but it is also the 5th highest dlc in context. Overall its selling about the same same as raft and payday 2 the 2 spots above it. Planet zoo is currently selling about the same as sea of thieves and it takes 2 and 26th highest. The arid pack is also currently at 327 4 spaces behind amongus and the tropical pack is at 398 just above the isle. This by no means indicates that the game isn't selling well it actually indicated the opposite these are some of the highest dlc ratings and also 3 days is not alot of time to climb this high as I believe this list is measured on the sales in 2 weeks I may be wrong there is alot of conflicting information on time frame.
Also the sims is at 42 so who ever said that comparing the sims 4 and planet zoo is bad is wrong.

I'll bite, no disrespect at all I love the game, I'm just blunt:
  • Both the exhibits and walkthrough exhibits are very much wasted potential. They should be completely modular in customization as well as having different size options. I also firmly believe all of the exhibit species should not be bound to the tanks and should customizable pathing or animation loops that you can place in custom made null exhibits that you can fully build from scratch. I have been keeping reptiles and amphibians as a hobbyist for over a decade and them just sitting around doing nothing is a bad meme. The same applies to insects.
  • A good chunk of the animals pre conservation pack need a stylistic overhaul. I enjoyed the more cartoony style of the original roster and I very much enjoy the current realistic style as well, I think there just needs to be more consistency. Also to add they need a way to model and animate shaggy fur. The orangutan being built like a gorilla to compensate for fur mass just doesn't do it for me. Same for the binturong.
  • The lack of realism props not just for architecture but for education is disappointing. Items like taxodermied animals, framed insects, animal skeletons, etc should be implemented since the game's message is conservation and education.
  • Animals could use some love towards behaviors. I'd like to see the hoofstock herd and graze. JWE2 does a good job of this with the herbivores. They mostly just walk around.
  • The roster desperately needs to use their bird rig more. ungulates and felines are nice and all but where are the pelecaniformes as well as smaller fowl similar to the peacock? Every other pack is mammals and it gets boring to play with kind of fast. Same applies to smaller mammals and reptiles too. Oceania pack was a breath of fresh air in that regard.
This one might land me the most flack but here goes:
  • The meta-wishlist and AZA/ Tierzooliste are not the gospel and should not be the be all end all of roster choices. It's nice to see the animal popularity contest but the meta represents a small sample size of those who play the game. Animals that aren't frequently or succesfully kept in captivity should be added to the roster. It's a videogame first. There are more than enough animals for realism. Just because animals like the Shoebill and Indri aren't kept in zoos doesn't mean there shouldn't be any awareness towards those species. I'm not saying add the dodo or great white sharks but there are plenty of animals out there that aren't common or borederline extinct that could use some exposure, a lot of which have succesful conservation efforts.

I agree 623 people have submitted a Wishlist to the meta Wishlist so it is a very small sample size and since there are 704 animals in that list it means on average every single person has at least 1 animals in their list no one else did. I also would love an exhibit rehaul to make it so the small box animals actually move around and that there are actual babies instead of just adults make the animals actually feel alive.
also feel free to trash the game we all do and honestly these opinions are pretty tame i feel like your only actually controversial opinion is the last point about what animals should be kept people are still adamant that the choices have to be realistic when we have things like the titan beetle ingame already clearly showing frontier doesn't actually care about realistic additions.
