Patch size?

Not to be annoying, but would you, Frontier, be able to post the size of future updates within the Patch Notes Thread? Or, incorporate the size of the update within the Login Screen for the game? I only ask as I have a limited Internet connection and I don't want to exceed my usage limit. Let me know your thoughts! Loving the game so far! Keep up the great work guys. :)

It's in the first post....

i dont know where you get your hardware knowledge from ...but the times when dedicated soundcards were needed to process 128 channels at high bitrates are gone for nearly a decade now. Either your machine is so low end that every single freed up cpu cycle does help or you have a driver issue. Also i highly doubt that a ingame "MUTED" setting does anything at all because its highly unlikely that the sound event is not generated still..but just at volume 0 ...and its just a coincidence that ure stutter went away.

This may or may not be related. However, on my machine, a Lenevo G700 laptop running 8.1, there is a bug in the audio driver which causes the Audiosrv service to leak like crazy. This leads to the audidg.exe process eventually consuming Gbs of memory. Restarting the game and service always solves this. The game runs smoothly for a while, but obviously once the leak gets bad it starts to struggle. Elite seems to magnify this leak compared to some of the other software (e.g. firefox). Haven't found a proper fix for the leak.

Disabling all of the soundcard effects(soundcard settings system(Windows) ) should help.

Cheers,

Here's an angle into the stutter issue I reported a few messages back as it manifested on my machine. I went to options, audio, and turned sound effects mute to MUTED.

The particular stutter I had here on my PC is now gone. Of course, most sounds except the ship voice are.

I suddenly recalled when I had encountered this issue before, and it had to do with the number of channels that a game uses concurrently. Most modern sounds cards I guess can handle what ED throws at them but perhaps a lot of on board (motherboard) soundcards can't.

For me at least this is a temp fix but the audio gives many necessary cues (like when docking) and atmosphere that now are not provided. The ship voice does work but the engine and environmental sounds are gone. Not that anything in a vacuum has sound anyway but..

For some an audio driver update may help, others may have tested this to no avail already. I hope this helps you, maybe someone can test and see if a different sound card fixes the issue.

Waitaminute.... I'm running an old Q6600 which I have whipped into more or less modern speeds with overclocking. I definitely get the stuttering, and it could well be related to this.

Has there been a dev confirmation about it being a sound card / sound chipset issue?

I'm using the Original 360-controller for Windows (wired) and it's working as a charm!!
I also recommend the setup by CMDR Crab:

And remember to rename the .binds-file to StartPreset.binds

I figured it out. My controller was paired with Bluetooth, but I didn't have the DS4Windows program up and running which tricks Windows into thinking my Dual-Shock 4 is an XBOX 360 controller :p

DOH!

But once I figured that out, I'm now loving this bind setup from CMDR Crab! Thanks for sharing!

I would be interested to hear more on this.

my PC is no slouch but it is getting on by modern standards.

(its a 2011 sandy I5). IF buying a discrete soundcard will improve things i will order one asap.
