Update 1.11.2 - Happy Birthday Planet Zoo! 🎈

This is me thinking out loud, y'all, but I have a feeling we will be getting 1 more full year of support, 5 more DLC, maybe a 4th anniversary, too.

Just, I dunno, the way the game is going, it seems like Frontier won't stop anytime soon. JWE didn't get merch, did it? Did PC get merch? I dunno.

But 2 years in a row, with gifts each time. JWE didn't, and PC got 1 year of gifts. Maybe I'm overthinking, but it's a thought
I'm thinking this too. Of course, no guarantee that support will continue for one more year but I'm pretty optimistic. With everything the team did recently (new exhibit, free red deer, merch store), I don't see them do one last DLC in a month and call it a day.

I think it's a combination of PZ being a lot more steadily succesful than expected, having a monopoly in being the only zoo game, and other Frontier properties like JWE2 underperforming.
Probably for most of that, but there are other zoo games out there. It's just that PZ is so much above them, at least for my own playstyle and tastes. We could see several more anniversaries with steady content if they were to add in (now more) flying animals - which seems probably but not certain - and marine animals. I mean, traditionally I think the marine type expansions were generally the most popular of ZT and ZT2, but it's been a long while since all that, I can't remember for sure. They could easily get another 6 packs content out of that, even if most of it would have to be animal packs since there's probably not too much scenery they would include - maybe a pack or two. That's still over 40 animals. While I'm completely neutral on a Planet Aquarium or having it in Planet Zoo, I do think it would bolster sales for Planet Zoo for at least a year if not more alone.

What other zoo games exist nowadays? Never heard of any

I'm not sure if we can actually discuss that here since it would be "direct competition". Hardly competition, given the gap quality and how high Planet Zoo has raised the bar for the genre, but still...while there's been several games in the last decade there's a few that are fairly new. Looking on steam under zoo helps to find that. But IMHO, nothing even comes close to the quality of Planet Zoo.

That's what I'm hoping too. A full 5 more DLC. And maybe beyond, if we can dream. Or at least partly into 2024.

You know what I gotta say about them releasing the free Red Deer? It's a lot more unique designed than a lot of our suggestions were. Like for instance, I was really hoping it would be the Masai Giraffe. Some people suggested the Black Bear or a Grevy's Zebra. Animals that were a lot closer to an animal already in the game, that theoretically would take less work to do and thus be appropriate for a free gift. Any of those would have been great but they actually went and gave us something unique. Sure, it's the 4th deer. but it's not a clone of any of the other three, and again, it's free.

I can't wait to see what 2023 will bring. This game's got my support for new content for as long as they want to keep releasing it.My play time over the last three years definitely shows I've gotten my money's worth. 1,344 hours over the 3 years...37 hours monthly. And a good long stretch from September 2020-May 2021 I did not play much at all, nor have I played a lot the last two months. I honestly can say there's not another game I've enjoyed as much as Planet Zoo and am happy it's going strong.
Yeah I am 2500 hours plus. And I feel the same. I have played numerous games over the years. But finally I feel we have a company that is passionate about their product and their fans.

They don't need to give us anything. But the last two years both animals are must haves in any zoo.

I love the care. I love being treated with respected. I love that this game I love is handled well.

Happy birthday.

Thank you for the great gift. Wow how far we have come from. I think back to the beta and original base game.

Yes there were some items who should have been in the base game day one....I am looking at you one way glass....

But we wanting from vending machines to stalls. From no educators to educators and children's sensory toys. And now shiney animal balloons
All we recieved nice touches.

To be honest thought I thought they would give us an exhibit animal for the large exhibit

Not overthinking, this game surpassed jwe1 and planco. Lets hope we will reach the 5th year of support

Plus there's no actual limit to the packs they could provide. They could make 10 more regular packs and the community would still have demand for more, and that's not even touching the realms of aviaries and fully aquatic animal.

Especially fully aquatics could warrant their own game if they'd like.

The truth is Frontier has a goldmine with no serious contender in the market. They could go with 4 more years of support like Cities Skylines, a game that still has new DLCs 8 years after its release.

I wasn't really expecting anything beyond the live stream but I'm so happy to have been proven wrong! The red deer wasn't an animal I particularly cared about at all but as someone who likes to build realistic parks worldwide I'm sure I'll use it eventually, and I'm thrilled to have such a unique, well made animal for free either way. I've never seen one in real life nor am I very familiar with them so I may not be the best judge, but the model is so gorgeous! After playing with them for a while they've quickly gone from "oh neat, I'll prolly never use them but they're pretty" to being one of my favorite ungulates in the game. (Although I do find it a little ironic how the zoopedia mentions that red deer are invasive to South America, New Zealand, and Australia, three regions that are sorely lacking in game lmao.)

As others have said, all this support gives me hope that the game will have a longer lifespan than expected (and hopefully Oceania and South America will finally have some decent rosters someday, I can dream!).

There’s only one current game capable of competing or at least stacking up to planet zoo. Imo that’s prehistoric kingdom which really isn’t a threat at all. One is modern and one is obviously prehistoric and both fill a much needed niche. I mention prehistoric kingdom not to disrespect planet zoo team, game, or frontier as I’ve been a loyal customer to frontier in both planet series games and will continue to be regardless. I have much respect for both games giving animal nerds like us countless hours of enjoyment.

It IS kind strange that nobody else besides Frontier took a decent shot of filling the niche left behind by Zoo Tycoon… Since like 2007 after Zoo Tycoon 2 wrapped up. If only because I remember when I was a kid, so many developers tired cashing in on the “Tycoon” trend. With attempts like Mall Tycoon and School Tycoon… meanwhile Roller Coaster and Zoo were the only ones that ever nailed it. (Honestly mall and school tycoon still sound like they could have worked, if they had better budgets and developers and allowed things to get really fantastical. But I’m off-topic lol)

Nobody didn't manage to fill the niche of roller coast tycoon before Frontier did PC.

But seeing how in general the gaming industry is filled with low quakoty cash grabs meant for a large audience, I see why nobody tried doing the high quality long term game for a more niche audience.

For example, most PZ players are adult, compared to most of the gaming industry which relies mainly on teenagers and young adults.

Exactly this. We’ve seen Atari take the rct brand recognition and try to use it on mobile games and cash grabs… thank you frontier for evolving these games from our childhood to amazing modern titles. Please continue to support this game for years and the money will continue to come in from your loyal customer base who’s been dying for these games for years

there will be a special Community Challenge from 4th-6th November! In this special event, you'll receive a boosted animal that has an 80%+ in any gene in return for every 5 you release (with a 1 in 50 chance of having Piebald or Albino colouring!),
Hi, I have a little but a big suggestion for the developers, could we have DLC animals and the free anniversary animals for the rewards???

Because, the rewards from those community challenges only are original base game animals, the lemur and the red deer they aren't for rewards
And the dlc animals ( actually we have more than 50 dlc animals) and it would be cool for all of us that have the dlcs receive sometimes dlc animals, not only original base game animals

Please, I think that all of us that play franchise mode a lot We'll be thankfull

Please this. And to add to it add the anniversary animals to the career mission’s markets and (a little reach here) if you own the dlcs add dlc animals to the career missions market too. For example: if you bought the SA pack in the SA career mission you can adopt them on the market
