Update 1.3.7

In an interview with TeamSchematics, when asked about friction, Ed said that coasters will never have a friction slider, and that it is impossible to change. It seems really frustrating how the devs chose to implement a friction cheatcode, because the cheatcode barely helps. With cheatcodes, we can't save the friction because we have to re-apply the cheat each time, and then it affects all coasters instead of just one :( not sure why they chose to do it like that

I believe they didn't say it is not possible, because that would be ridiculous. Of course it's possible. They said it's something they don't want to work on for now because of 'priorities'.

Actually his exact words were "No, nope, not going to happen just, sorry but no." he even stated that he did not have a reason, just that it probably won't happen

No thats not what they said. they said there are currently no plans to add one in, not that its impossible to change and will never be added

LOL exact words that were never said

Well, it seems like friction is on the same list as having multiple stations or the ability to swap cars without rebuilding the entire track :(

When are they going to fix the issues that of have been around since day 1 such as:

- Guests walking around with no money all the time
- Staff always complains about low workload
- Guest complain about litter/vomit when there's none in sight

They say its something they are currently (back when the video released) not working on but they will pass it on to the dev team as a desired feature. They don't say its never going to happen.

Although I don't think it will ever happen, but thats not what they said.

Creating fake quotes is fun isn't it [rolleyes]

considering I saw the video months ago, I was pretty close. He repeatedly said "No"

Good thing this isnt a court room [rolleyes]

If you are going to say some one said something "exactly" and then quote it you should probably actually go and confirm the actual quote before hand

Thanks for the update !! and looking SO forward to "the big news" next month :D

As for the friction discussion. The story may have 2 sides. Frontier intended to take the friction on coasters very serious, and for the most part i think most of us agree they did a very nice job on it. With the wooden coasters we seem to differ a bit on opinion tough ...

As for dynamic friction settings, Ed didn't say it wasn't possible, it was just not on the list for the near future. Yet everyone should know by now that their list changes quite often depending on the requests we make and the general opinion about certain features.

Who know's it might still be added at some point? I saw some great suggestions on the Suggestions forums surrounding friction. (like linking it to maintainence costs)

It doesn't do much good to complain about this in this thread. This thread is about an update they made in making the Steel Vengeance even better. Thank you for that!!
For all requests surrounding the friction, please bundle our opinions over at the suggestions forums. Thats what they are for and it wouldn't be the first time Frontier surprised us :)

Probably because they wanted to release this on the same day as the ride was announced

That makes sense. Now that there's no deadlines except the ones the devs impose on themselves I hope they'll take their time with future updates.

if that were the case, somethings may never get finished, just look at security.
I'm sorry, can you clarify? I don't know what you're trying to say.

That seems like a bit of a stretch. Is it possible this is just your personal opinion rather than public knowlege? Or where does your information come from?

What? Not to be disrespectful, but I haven't seen that side where people agree Frontier did a very nice job on the friction, apart from the occasional fanboy on Reddit. The friction in the game is wrong, no matter how you look at it. And friction is not some sort of rocket science, it should be done correctly.

maybe you can contact a lawyer [wink]

certain things just wont appear buggy on the devs end, until they are released to the general public who have a variety of PC components. Thats the purpose of an alpha/beta is bug testing, but it seems almost as if alpha had less bugs than the full release because, many things in the final game were not tested (like how security was very buggy in the beginning, or the queue line problems)

Frontier stated this themselfs a few times :) They keep saying that they do read the suggestions we make. Why would they need suggestions when it's already set in stone what they will do and what not?
So ofcourse once they commit to something that will not change i assume, but we really do have an influence over what will be done and what not.

I think the firework is example of this. Sam mentioned on the livestream it was first intended to be added later, but it was added sooner. And i think there are quite a few more things that were added because of fan demand :

My personal favorites : Custom music (Was originally NOT planned) and the custom biomes which again, was not originally planned if i remember correct.

I think people are a bit upset because a friction slider is such a minimum change that would make such a big difference. So many people have been asking for it for such a long time. How much time would it take to implement that compared to something like fireworks? Afterall it's just changing values, right? Fireworks for instance is creating something entirely new (including all the effects, sounds etc) from scratch. Now i'm not a programmer so forgive me if i'm wrong, but it very much seems that one thing should be easier to implement than the other, right? Especially since not having fireworks isn't game-breaking, while not being able to create long coaster tracks kinda is in a game like Planet Coaster.

Yeah I totally agree! But maybe Frontier are too lazy to do something that might take an HOUR TO DO. Could you imagine sitting down for 20 minutes and changing a number. Seems like a really hard job right there...
