Update 11 - Release Date Change

I am playing both games and fully disagree with your comments on SC. Apart of the fact that it is alpha everything else is just not right. Both games are good and worth the money, bringing enough entertainment for what they cost. They are different. ED is vast but empty. SC is small but immersive. Space immersion - SC. Space exploration - ED. Great gameplays cenarios and loops - Neither.
Thing is that though both are great games, like all sandboxes they dont contain major content (Sandbox provides mostly the tools). Content is made by the continuous story development of the developer OR by players that create events/teams/fights/pve/pvp etc. Both of these are driven by the developer company though like in most online games out there. The first by having a dedicated programming team and the second by promoting events with prizes etc. ED needs a new game. FC interiors will be used up in a week. ED needs content across the board, new ships, new exploration findings, planetary life to investigate and admire, new guardian puzzles, new lore, refined bgs, miningfull CGs and a way to make not all goods look the same in use. The ability to "create" and "Expand". To become 4X game in a way. That demands new server, new content, a funding source from like dlcs, and seperation of open and solo universe (SC is open only already). I don't think all these can be done without a proper project manager.....

I don't think we have seen the full scope of what was laid down in "New Era" yet. The re-prioritisation and focus on optimisation post Odyssey launch and the resulting delay in merging the two code bases has surely put a huge spanner in the original plans. I think we need to wait until the code bases are merged before we can tell what the scale of New Era is.

English speaking folk might appreciate the translation:

History repeats itself. Before the release of JWE2, we could see a picture of stagnation in the game, updates were sluggish and full of bugs, there were no solutions to problems, only skins were released every week. Now again the release of the update for JWE2, we again have delays, translations. But we are convinced that this has nothing to do with it. This, of course, is my opinion, but the coincidence is strange.
And right now there is also minimal feedback from the developer after the new year. Kau seemed to have decided to leave us.

Particularly as this is the english langauge part of the forum...

Wondered what that meant myself. I suspect "worn out" or "novelty factor gone". However, it could also mean there'll be no interiors left in outfitting so I'd better buy one quickly.
I suppose it depends on whatever one might consider 'useful' or 'novel', I don't think I would be transferring to the bridge for each jump after seeing how it has been implemented, but certainly see the longevity of services available, but that may just be because my little group are very active and a 'meeting place' and market for our spare stuff would be useful.

Thanks for the update, I'd definitely prefer it to be delayed for a week or two and be right than pushed out in the "expected Feb sometime" window and be flakey. Personally, I can't wait to sit in a fleet carrier and watch the jump, the soundscape it already generates for jumps is epic enough. The visuals to go with it well, I'm hoping they're just as awesome!
Meanwhile, back on page 6 of this thread... ☝️

My stance is the same as it was then. Better for the update to be right and delayed than deployed and severely broken.

I have the patience to wait for as long as required and I don't need a "date" to fixate on either. Putting a date on a release that is as complex as this one is foolhardy IMO.

Let's face it, this update is not just FC interiors, it's not just a jump animation (which I admit, is something I'm really excited to see), it's an entirely new trading system when players are on a Fleet Carrier, plus there are other fixes and changes for the wider game incoming in the same update.

The issues encountered could be anywhere. Update 11 is not a trivial update in the slightest. It's a large, complex update that deserves respect from the Dev's, QA's and players alike. The last of these, the most because we just consume it, the Dev's and QA's craft and test it. With the best will in the world, the QA's will never catch everything because their test systems are divergent from production. It's the nature of the beast, as players we're not interacting with the test system so QA's don't see the weird and whacky things we do as players to the system. IME, users of any system will find "workarounds" and ways to do things that the designers of that system never planned for or envisaged.

Give FDev the space to get things as right as then can but still expect issues because the game is large, complex and written by HUMAN BEINGS who make mistakes despite their best efforts. Applying a large complex update to a large complex piece of software is never trivial or without risk of issues, unforeseen or otherwise.

Also, and this is coming from an '84 vet. that loves Elite very, very much. However much we'd like to think it's our second life, IT'S JUST A GAME to pass our time in a fun and enjoyable way, there's no need for players to be so serious and no need to link every update to the slightest change in the price of stock of the company etc. All that is a waste of your time as is writing most of this post for me I suspect because the point will be missed by many!

My impression on how ED Cmdrs evaluate updates:
  • what IS NOT delivered: 70%
  • how BADLY is delivered what is delivered: 15%
  • what new BUGS are delivered: 10%
  • what IS actually delivered: 5%
It looks funny even from tens of kylies away from the Bubble. ;)

It’s been more than 24 hours, surely that counts as more than a single day and we are now into “days” territory, so where is my update already ;)

just excited, this patch makes we actually want to “own” a fleet carrier. Which by my slow pace since launch, I might have acquired enough wealth to buy and run one at the same time Fdev will be dishing them out to all commanders for free in the final year they keep the severs going. :)
