Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

A fair criticism, but leaving a Legacy mode for players like yourself seemed preferable to shutting it down entirely as you say. I expect that many if not most of the existing player base that will ever buy Odyssey has already done so. It's likely that brand new players will trend towards the Live version (whether that's Horizons OR Odyssey) rather than Legacy.
Are you taking "Legacy" version off of sale from consoles then? New players won't know that it's in maintenance mode and it's pretty unethical to sell a game that's a step away from shutdown, at least without informing new players of that.

New players will have access to both Live and Legacy modes. Without Odyssey purchase, this means Horizons 4.0 (Live) and Horizons 3.8 (Legacy).
Regarding this, I would be interested to know if new players that jump into the game for the first time will be prompted to play into either Legacy or Live. Knowing this beforehand could benefit player organizations such as the Fuel Rats and the Hull Seals, not to mention the fact that a new player might not be aware of the existence of these two versions completely separate from one another, which could mean that they would make progress on a version that might not be the best suited for them (mainly considering if they start out in Legacy then find out that Live is the only version that gets content updates and they would have to start all over again)

Odyssey and Horizons players will be able to instance together for the first time as of Update 14 by both being able to play in Horizons on Live. In that regard we're joining players together rather than fragmenting anything. What we're not offering is to allow Horizons players into the Odyssey instance for free.
Wasn't suggesting they should, but wondering what's stopping them being integrated in space, where there is no odyssey specific content.

Although, with the mini-launcher or command line edit, Odyssey players have already had the option to launch into 4.0, as mentioned in various threads on these forums and reddit...

Lads, people need to read through Bruce's answers before asking him to clarify stuff, he's answering the same questions over and over again.

If you have Odyssey you have access to all of it. Odyssey and Horizons 4.0 (which are part of "live") and Horizons (3.8 Legacy).
If you do NOT have Odyssey, you have access to both versions of Horizons, 4.0 (live) and 3.8 (legacy) regardless if you currently own it, or buy it in the future.

Legacy and Live will be separate from each other as of U14. Legacy will no longer effect the "live" BGS nor will it receive narrative content. Nor will anyone have access to the servers for mods and messing. (At least not now)

Basically, there's no longer a reason to use legacy unless you want to be a holdout for whatever reason. (I'd have just binned it, myself)

Got it... wouln't be sufficient to disable the "disembark" button for EDH-only versions? So we'll share the space instancing at least...

I'm just curious why this wasn't announced much earlier to allow players enough time to try to prepare, if they had the financial option. Example, console players could have time to try to get a PC, or PC owners could try to up save money to upgrade or buy a better PC so they are not screwed if they want to switch to 4.0.

Also, to try to fix the issue with getting stuck, since logging into another version is no longer an option, can you please ask them to give us the option to have the game put us in our ship after going back to the main menu?

It can be an option from the main menu where we can select to have it put us back in the ship. But with it turned off, you will load up like normally.

Razar.

As legacy Mode will be set in a different galaxy that will not affect anything anymore, could you guys add some kind of "Creative Mode"? like allowing you to teleport to systems to revisit old discoverys like when you first found them as the issue might be that exploration will die out due to not having any effect on the "real game" anymore.

I look forward to the announcement of macOS legacy galaxy.

I think the PR department may have stepped in to stop the versions being Elite Dangerous Live and Elite Dangerous Dead. Other than being able to select Horizons 4.0 officially I can't really see what benefit this is to 'Live' players, whereas to H3.8 players it appears to be a downgrade, losing access to community goals. The console game is becoming ever more unanattractive, the excuse being it's better than being shut down.

Material gathering is still easy, but you won't get the nav panel icons back.

Oh well, now i really hope the "major feature revamp" planned for the next year is to actually reintroduce planetary POIs for Bio/Geo features so we dont have to rely on Eyeballs Mk1 in 3309 like Magellan did in 1519 (or any type of exploration tech that doesnt rely on flying above the surface at low speed waiting for features to "pop" on our screens)

Speaking as a console player, your best bet is to try and get the console transfer completed as soon as possible. It should then be theoretically there waiting for you once you have a PC. I did the console copy, but don't have a PC so my carbon copy just sits there, I guess.

They already don't want anything to do with Legacy, pretty sure they aren't going to devote another second to making changes.

Are there any sales planned for Odyssey in the near future, across all PC storefronts? This is a massive kick in the teeth to ask people to pay more than the price of base game just to get any future content, even just CG's. This affects the Fuel Rats, this affects anyone with a PMF or just any minor faction supporters, this affects trading player groups, this affects anyone who plays outside of just their own little bubble.
There's a Steam one on right now. 50% off all the options for ED Odyssey.
