Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

Only one I end up using is trying to pay a fine when notorious. - just to be clear, a fine, not a bounty.

As you cannot pay a fine when notorious in odyssey but you can in horizons.

Have you tried disembarking and paying it on foot at any terminal?

I'm so confused...
it's simple.

two universes...you start off with a copy of your current character in both.

in the live universe you have two views. horizons and odyssey (if you play on PC)

In the legacy universe, you have horizons 3.8 (not horizons 4.0 that's in live universe)

Feel free to correct or elaborate, but I take it you mean "Why have a Legacy Mode?". Not everyone wants or is able to play on version 4.0, and we'd like to offer an ongoing option for those players.
Thanks FD. Personally I'm really grateful for this option as I still generally prefer to play in 3.8 with it's smoother graphics, stabler shadows and greater extremes of planetary terrain. It also means that numerous planetary race courses (including the Pomeche Ridge Challenge, Cortes Base and all the glorious mountains and ravines on Kumay ... not to mention Mt Neverest) will now live on indefinitely in legacy mode. Up until now I've felt like these things were on borrowed time so it's awesome to know that this is no longer the case.

Also no more relogging in 3.8 to clear out 4.0 C&P bugs like fake bounties/fines or unpayable bounties.
also good.

It forces fdev to fix the game if enough players complain rather than simply find a workaround that they shouldn't have to take in the first place.

I mean it forces them if they want that gameplay to exist. Otherwise it will die and whatever the consequence of that is what will exist. Perhaps that's the preferred outcome. Either way, gameplay that involves exploiting the behavior of exiting the game and such is not good gameplay and should be eliminated.

So if I'm grasping this correctly, if I wanted to play with the 'old' interface (specifically the old, non-awful galmap/system map) that will now be relegated to the legacy game only, in which nothing will affect the 'proper', actual live game?

Oh - so it's going to be like what they should have done from the start with each game mode (Open, Solo, PG)

The insanity never ends

Yup. if you want legacy 3.8 horizons, you live in a different universe. Keep your legacy exploiting ways in legacy land. What with your faster framerate and different looking planets.

Fdev being Fdev. Instead of making Odyssey good/exciting and fixing what horde of players requested, they are releasing 2 separate modes, using their time and energy twice.

Have you asked yourself - why players don't want to buy Odyssey? I'm sure all would jump to that DLC if the changes were good/better/great to the base game. Like they did with DLC before - nobody complained about Horizons, planet landings and all updates you did for the base game.

yea...on one hand I can see the argument for that making total sense. But on the other hand, it's pretty easy to see how exploitable it would be to "cheat" the shared modes and still end up "solo" given the networking methodology the game uses. So if there was the greater motivation to go that route, you'd likely have widespread use of those methods so players could still take advantage of the benefits of solo with their pg/open characters.

You've mistaken "time and effort of developing new modes", with "just taking a copy and leaving it alone".
You've also mixed up "players don't want to buy Oddyssey" with "players who can't buy Odyssey on their console".
If anything, this will make the most people happy for the least time and energy. Admittedly not everyone will be.

Not sure I understand this.. I went the other day in 4.0 to stock up, scanned the planets and landed in a blue area. On all the bodies I visited there was no problem to find plenty of crystal shards everywhere..
As a EDH 3.8 player, if I do not go before U14, I might have to go twice to refill in 3.8 and or 4.0. If I go refill before U14 the copy of my cmdr from the 3.8 universe will have full mats in the 4.0 universe waiting for me when I choose to play in that universe.

horizons 4.0 still exists.

This is mostly to address console players stuck on 3.8. The population of pc players playing on 3.8 is likely a small minority except those who use it for workarounds with issues in 4.x ...or exploit differences in spawning items within it.

in the case of console players, they have no option for 4.x. So making odyssey better doesn't factor in to this decision. Unless you think they could improve it enough to release on console. Which ...i mean if they could do that, we would have a much different game situation right now than we do.

... and materials that don't disappear into the ground when you shoot a meteorite, and a galmap that doesn't store information like my mum stores elastic bands*. Gotcha.

* 'Where are the elastic bands?'
'In an envelope, in a bag, in another bag, in a box, in the big bag, in a box in the kitchen drawer.'
'Never mind.'
